- Sharon Jones, a powerhouse soul singer with a gritty voice, fast feet and indomitable energy, died Friday of pancreatic cancer. She was 60.
Her death was confirmed by Judy Miller Silverman, her publicist. She said Ms. Jones died at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, N.Y., and was surrounded by members of her band, the Dap-Kings, and other loved ones when she died.
I am a hardcore Allman Brothers fan and rarely enjoy a cover by other bands- this is fantastic. Sharon’s voice and the band’s energy made me smile and dance!

The one thing that I just absolutely love is how the individual band members just come together, starting with the guitar, then the drummer just drops the beat...Man, I have watched this commercial hundreds of time and it still gives me goosebumps!! RIP Sharon Jones and long live The Dap Kingz!!!

I got to see her in Memphis, at the Levitt Shell as she was fighting the beast. She was awesome. This cover is the very best one ever made! God bless Sharon.
