My greatest hiking regret is when first starting out I spent good money on a rain jacket and waterproof trousers, never again though! I bought an Altus full zip poncho from Spain for £40, and it works so well. If condensation builds up, I just open the zip in a rain lull, and it dries on the inside so rapidly. All I take with me nowadays is my poncho (for when it rains) and my windproof jacket, with my normal layers underneath, I don't need anything else.

The jacket is Helly Hansen Odin 9 Worlds 2.0 Outdoor Shell Jacket and the trousers are indeed Patagonia Triolet Alpine Pants.
