Wish I had watched this before trying a Hybrid event. Lol.
I found that it was hard to develop sense of connectedness between both groups. When doing just remote, everyone is "alone", together. With a hybrid, half of us were together, and half of us were alone. (I hope that makes sense.) The energy in the room was initially high, but there was definitely a sense that those remote felt excluded, which started to dampen the mood.

You're so right! Keeping energy hight is definitely one of the biggest challenges!

One thing that has worked for me, use breakout rooms for the online people, essentially the people in person are in a "breakout room". Then incorporate activities, guided conversation or "learn by doing" activities to reinforce whatever your workshop is about at regular intervals throughout the workshop. Giving the remote people a way to connect with those "alone together" helps creates that connectedness.

@@milkyway6873 I'll keep this in mind and give it a try the next time we need to do a Hybrid meeting. Thanks for the idea!

We haven't had hybrid events yet, but I'd say the greatest challenge I've had with remote is getting people to use tools teams whiteboard

Thanks for sharing! Getting people to use the digital tools properly and staying engaged throughout the workshop are two of the biggest challenges most people face when running remote or hybrid workshops.
For the first issue, one solution would be to onboard people to the tools prior to the workshop. Send an onboarding email to the participants explaining the rules of the workshop, which tools are going to be used and preferably include an onboarding video to the different tools. You can record it yourself but there are plenty of short tutorial videos on practically any tool available.
An easy fix to the second issue would be to include warm up and icebreaker exercises into the workshop. Adding extra breaks also helps a lot.
Hope this was helpful! Have a great day.
