Cool idea! I had an idea based on your idea/technique. What if you instead thew the 2nd piece upside down (with no bottom and a closed top)? That way you could invert the 2nd piece (batt up) and insert it while it is still wet (like the process for throwing a stacked 2-part vase). You could either make the inside short and suspended (like the one you made) or make it full height (so it is supported) and trim it the correct height.
i would be afraid of the pot collapsing once you start cutting. if the center pot isn't supported by the base, it's suspended from the top by the outer pot. and then once you start cutting, the thin parts that are left is all that's left to support the top and the center. but i guess if you make the center pot tall enough to rest on the bottom, there wouldn't be an issue. love your recent videos, man

Have you researched the Japanese Somayaki double wall pottery? I believe the pieces are thrown separately then joined together.
