In this clip, Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins reflected on some of the artists he's worked with and talked about his daughter appearing on America's Got Talent when she was five years old. Later on, Darkchild recounted how he first got the chance to work with Janet Jackson and why she was initially apprehensive due to his working relationship with her brother.
When reflecting on the artists he's worked with. It made me think how extraordinary and legendary this man really is. Amazing 💯🙌🏾

That's why that Deja Vu beat is so crazy and musical. I didn't know Darkchild did that.
There's quite a bit of live instrumentation so not exactly a beat. There is a real bass player, real drummer etc. Rodney hires and works with musicians just like Dr. Dre. Larry Gold is his go to String Arranger/Conductor.
@@eman0828 I did know about the live instrumentation. But as far as it not being a beat if I had thought about it more I'm sure I would have been of aware that. But thanks for correcting me. And I thought I was the music knowledge guy.
@@destroytmusicagan2476 Yeah. And Rodney does a lot more than just program beats, he assist in the Vocal production, Songwriting process. He sees the production of a song from the beginning stages all the way to final mix stage as the end product. Hes a Record Producer like Dr. Dre which isn't anything different than what Quincy Jones did that directed and guided the session. Typically Rodney would work out chords and medleys on the piano before he starts making a beat, then he would collaborate with Songwriters and some times session musicians, cut the vocals in the studio with the Artist that would direct and call the shots behind the mixing board that works along a Recording Engineer and some times a Vocal Producer in the control room. There's more than just making a beat if you're gonna call yourself a Producer.
@@eman0828 Exactly. Some people don't realize the difference between a beat maker and a producer/songwriter. One thing Vlad hasn't mentioned is Rodney's work on Empire. He took over for Timbaland in Season 3.
@@destroytmusicagan2476 yeah a Beatmaker were originally referred to as *Programmers* as the formal job title when Producers use to hire them to program and sequence drum and keyboard parts with use of keyboards and midi sequencing. Timbaland and Jimmy Douglas still uses those term when distinguishing the role of a Producer and a Programmer. In Hip Hop its combination of a Programmer and a Record Producer. Today more and more music is becoming programmed now that programmed drums has became a thing in Rock, Metal genres due to technology advances, meaning less session players you have to hire.
