  • Galway Community College Secondary School Soccer Academy is an innovative new Senior Cycle programme supported by the F.A.I. that merges the Leaving Cert Curriculum with a soccer programme that encompasses coaching, training, sports psychology and player strength and conditioning. Former Galway United coach Don O'Riordan is technical director with former Irish International and F.A.I. Cup winner Susie Cunningham in charge of the players strength and conditioning.
GCC Academy player, Conor McDonagh, scored a 45 yard free kick in the U-19 Connacht B Cup against Spiddal in November. Unfortunately the goal was not filmed. Luckily for us Conor was determined to show us that he is something of the long range expert.
In an under 17 Connacht B Cup game against Oughterard on December the 3rd the GCC Academy team were trailing 1-0. The referee indicated that the free awarded to the Academy side for an offside against Oughterard was to be the last play of the game. Conor, who plays his club football with Galway Hibernians, took the free kick 74 yards from the Oughterard goal....... no pressure then Conor!
