  • This is another live "parlor concert" video of Scott Balsai playing another of his original fingerstyle guitar compositions off of his CD, "Reflections of Maple and Mahogany: A Musical Diary".
The piece is titled "Sunday Visitors".
It starts with a sleepy, easy feeling melody, reminiscent of how it might feel on a lazy Sunday morning, sipping coffee or tea.. Then in the middle, it picks up tempo reflecting the emotional excitement of anticipation, perhaps, from receiving a phone call about some long awaited visitors coming to say hello and spend some time visiting and reminiscing. This continues until the piece quickly concludes with the visitors finally arriving and ultimately ringing the doorbell in the form of a 12th fret open harmonic,( which fortuitously sounds like a doorbell).
This piece is in an unusual tuning that Scott snitched off of Will Ackerman's website for the Ackerman tune "Visiting". In fact, Scott uses the same first four notes from Ackerman's "Visiting" only to take his piece off into a completely different musical direction.
So Scott uses his title, "Sunday Visitors", to give a salute to Will and sort of a "thank you" to Will for sharing his tunings on his website. Also note that Scott did figure out Ackerman's "Visiting" before composing "Sunday Visitors". After learning to play "Visiting", Scott wanted to see what he could do with this strange and previously unfamiliar tuning. (Note: Scott tunes his guitars about one whole step down from the actual pitch denoted by the tuning designation.)

Just scroll down to "Past Light" to find the tuning of Will's "Visiting" and by inspiration Scott's "Sunday Visitors".
This video was recorded on February 4, 2025.
This video was recorded "unplugged" using only his RODE stereo microphone mounted on a dummy Nikon camera and connected by extension cord to a second Nikon camera for the video. Like his other videos, it was not mixed or mastered for sound but was recorded live and posted here on You Tube.
On this video Scott uses his Taylor K14 ce from 2002 acoustically, and is the same guitar he used to make the audio track for his CD 'Reflections of Maple and Mahogany".
