I can not stress how much your videos have saved me as a new player. Countless hours of research boiled down to 14 minute videos pure genius thank you PROF YOU LEGEND!
I'm glad that Bloomburrow came with 9 packs instead of 8 for the simple reason that it makes drafting between three players accessible for a cheaper price. The land count is troubling and more tokens would also make it a much more viable draft experience at home.
As someone that strongly advocates for buying singles, like most others, I very much enjoy cracking packs. So I use bundles as a happy middle ground. I get to have my joy of cracking a handful of packs with every release without committing to the full price of a booster box. My LGS actually buys the D20s and boxes for $5 of in-store credit (which he usually lets me bump to $5.99 and just grab an additional booster pack)
Discontinuing the set boosters kind of killed the pack appeal for me. Since I'm not drafting, I only bought occasional packs just for that random fun factor of getting unexpected cards to add to my collection; maybe ones I wouldn't necessary choose for myself. It's hard to go back to draft - sorry, I mean "play" boosters now.
@@Shade7x That´s the whole point why play booster exist and why they "saved" draft. The people who like drafting, drafted at prerelease and didn´t buy draft boxes. people who like to crack packs bought just set boosters. enthusiasts and rich kids beyond the pack crackers bought collector booster boxes. but nobody bought the draft boxes until the got to firesale. Same was true with most of the precons so WotC put one high value, most of the time never reprinted card to the decks (starting with the LCC decks) lowered the printruns and no lgs is sitting on the precons anymore. The only f*ed people are these who really like to buy and play precons out of the box, because they have to move fast or pay markups.
Bundles have been my favorite sealed product ever since I got into Magic, about ~2 years ago. While yes, buying a box "saves" you money per pack, spending 40 quid is not the same as spending 100+. This tends to be the only product I buy for each set /that I like/, on top of any pre-release kits or draft pulls, and I fill in the blanks with singles that I need for decks. Edit: That being said, Prof, I would love it if you kept making "Is it Worth it to Buy" videos for Bundles!!
Man, I do miss those booklets. I thought it was cool that it kept you up to date on the lore and had little articles to highlight cards. Was a fun addition
I started playing magic during Battle for Zendikar.. thinking about getting into it again and Im pretty disappointed by this since bundles were my preferred way of collecting sets.
I'm a very casual player on a budget. I rarely buy cards at all. This is a great way to get up to speed on a new set, and I love the theme. Will definitely be picking this up for my birthday.

I haven't bought any magic products in years. I'm sick of the lack of value and price gouging from all sources. I buy singles if I buy anything at all.
I was really excited to get a ton of squirrels to actually make a squirrel deck, but haven't bought a pack of Bloomburrow. It's such a disappointing trend lately, they're both doing what the players want AND doing what they hate at the same time, cause we'll buy it, but not be happy about it. It reminds me of a comic shop I stopped going to a long time ago. I bought a pack of Mirage for $7, and after, said "man, there are overpriced." And he said "well, you bought it". Then I never shopped there again.
Standard is alot of fun right now! Try playing some sealed with a friend or two. Or just maintain your current mindset and be stuck feeling that way. The beauty is, the choice is yours 😊
The mention of battle for zendikar made me laugh. When it released, I bought the bundle solely because of the lands. At the time, I thought maybe this is the last time we'll see zendikar and therefore my only chance to get full art lands for my commander decks. Oh how times have changed
I bought two of these Bloomburrow Bundles as the first MTG physical pack purchase in 20+ years(Commander Precons not withstanding). Bloomburrow is so great.
I used to buy a box for basically every set I was interested in, which was all of them. Now? I buy some packs, do some drafts, and then just buy singles. It doesn't make sense financially to me anymore. But what does make sense is a Behind the Campus video! Can't wait!
I want to add that the amonkhet bundle did have a token pack. So we know that they've done it before, and with a set with as many tokens as bloomburrow has, should have absolutely included one
I completely agree I think that one of each token, especially for a set like bloomburrow with so many different and specific tokens, would be an awesome inclusion.
As a new player, I love the bundle. It has a good number of packs and I love the accessories included (particularly the storage box and die). I agree though that it could (and should) have more, such as the booklet with all the cards and additional lands. Coming from the Pokémon TCG, their equivalent to the bundle is the Elite Trainer Box, which comes with 9 packs, 45 energy cards, 7 dice, a pack of 60 themed sleeves, and a booklet with information about the set and setlist.
The outer sleeve for bundles also used to unfold into a poster for the set. That and the booklet were the main draws for me, and they are both ancient history at this point
I'm actually headed down to my LGS to play for the first time tonight to see if the game's for me, and these videos have been super helpful in deciding what to buy if I end up liking it. Thank you Prof!
I actually made an otter standard deck and I can say it's pretty fun! You don't even need to worry too much about having so many otters, cause most of them have prowess, so it's better to keep your deck with fewer creatures and just put in a lot of instants and sorceries :3
In this instance at least, the 30 lands includes no repeats and gives you full sets of each of the full art basic lands through all 4 seasons, which I find very cool. When I learned that, it pushed me over into getting it because my spouse and I just really love a lot of basic land art in general and easily acquiring 1 of each of them so conveniently seemed like a good value.
Also, here in Japan there isn't a different between loose pack price and box price. Based on booster pricing here, getting a bundle means you are spending when you would spend to get 10 packs, to only get 9 packs, and instead of the missing pack get the nice full set of 30 basics, the storage box and the art that's part of it, the promo, and the very cool die. The die is maybe especially valuable to me and my spouse because we like to use them as counters in games, and playing with those dice reminds us of sets were really loved, and the times around when we opened the bundle and played stuff like Winston draft out of it together.
Holy crap. I hadn't thought about those booklets in ages! I used those all the time when friends and I were competing in tournaments and building decks back in the day!
This was a really helpful video. I’ve been trying to buy fewer booster boxes because I’ve noticed my partner and I don’t really USE a lot of the cards we get from boxes, but I do like the bundles to get SOME cards from a set. This was a good logical breakdown of the pros and cons of that. Thank you, Prof!
The professor's also got a couple videos on two player draft formats, like the one on Winston Draft, that I highly recommend checking out if you're looking for a way to play those cards you're opening together a bit more. It's really fun to just toss 6 packs, or even 9 full packs from a bundle shuffled into a pile and winston draft them with a partner you both enjoy playing together with. Gives you the chance to experience playing with and making decisions about more of the cards you bought. Works well for both bundles or even full booster boxes. As a Magic hobbyist, these days I skip some sets, but it's really nice to have found some ways to experience a fair bit of the depth of a set even if I can't make it out to a prerelease and/or a bunch of drafts.
I was one of the lucky few wjo managed to get not just a Battle for Zendikar fat pack, but one from Oath of the Gatewatch, too. Both came with 80 full-art lands. I think WotC should at least bring back the set booklit, as i must say, reading those is always a pleaure, and it's nice ti go over the set later down the line. They also come un handy if you ever want to make a set cube.
I’m someone who’s never learned to play MTG, but this set in particular has me very intrigued (I love the theme of little woodland creatures in a fantasy world) I’m still considering jumping into the game and get this set
In Canada the pricing all averages out. It doesn't matter if you buy a single booster, pre release, bundle, or an entire box, they're about the same price give or take a pack.
I used to pick up a bundle to make two sealed decks out of. The 40 lands were perfect for making two limited decks. But now with only 30 you have to hope to open a variety of lands in your actual packs to be able to do so.
I bought the Bloomburrow bundle a few weeks ago and it is my first one. I enjoyed the extra land cards and my first spindown die. I had no idea that bundles used to contain so much more!
I like the box and spindown myself, especially since they have been mostly including the larger sized spin down. But when you put it as those are 11 dollars on their own its hard to take but since I also get a bunch of packs it makes it more palatable. I do appreciate videos like this that point out the actual $ value of these things. One thing that would be great to add to these would be a token set that had all the tokens you might need in the set.
I love having the box to store my set in. I like how they all fit together neatly. I bought my bundle on impulse while I was traveling and it was annoying that the card cup was gone because I needed to go through the airport with the cards so I had to use the empty pack wrappers to stuff the box with to secure the cards I got.
My entry into MTG was a Strixhaven commander deck, and I also bought a bundle for somewhat cheap to start a collection. After watching this video I had to check and it came with 40 lands, which was pretty solid to start building decks with.
Same. I bought a Bloomburrow and LCI Gift Bundle at the same time. Paid 45 for the Bloomburrow and 60 for the LCI. The LCI still has the inner box AND the Collector Booster for not much more. Pulled a 17d Mana Crypt from the LCI Collector and used it to fund the rest of my Bloomburrow stuff.
In the case of bloomburrow, I think it's actually a bonus that these bundles include non-full-art lands, because they don't come in play boosters. Bloomburrow the full art lands are the default and the non-full ones are only from other sealed products things like the bundle, or the starter kit. (maybe in value boosters too, but i haven't even seen those for sale anywhere)
Honestly, if the bundle came with one of every token, or even just one of every offspring token, I would get it in a heartbeat. As is, I still might pick one up, but I’ll have to think about it.
As a new player I desperately needed those lands, would've been great to get more! Would also love the booklet with a full set card list or at least a qr code with a digital booklet
Gonna really date myself here but I remember picking up the Ravnica fat packs and adoring the story Kamigawa too! The books drew me into the card game far beyond anything else and I loved being able to flip through the card glossary before cracking my packs with folk at the game shop.
One thing worth noting about the basic lands on the Bloomburrow Bundle is that each one is a different collector's number and due to the Season Full art lands the number of lands increases to 30 for this set. Prior Bundles of this year had the 15 lands of the set in foil and non foil with the bundle. The ammount of lands is still the same, but if you treat them as collectibles getting all lands is a nice touch
As a brand new player , I loved this bundle. I got intomagic recently because of bloomburrow, and cracking open a bunch of boosters, getting lands, the box and the die for the price was pretty solid. Of course, I'm gonna need more cards to make a cohesive deck, but my local shop also sells loads of singles so I'll just pick up what I need from there.
The fact that land packs in Bundles have become less usefull is something that has ultimately got me reconsidering whether I wish to continue buying them, as getting the set-themed basics that are not full art(, without pulling them from the Commander Decks) has been my main reason for buying Bundles in the era of "every set has full-art basics". As a collector, the 'oversized' spindowns still allow me to say I will continue, but the professor is making great points here.
The otters in bloomburrow have been my encouragement to start playing more than just precon commander. As such, the otter theming of the bundle made the bundle worthwhile for me. I want more just for the boxes!
We can't often make it to prerelease events, so instead my husband and I will often pick up a bundle or two (if they're available at that time, this time bloomburrow was at our LGS) so that we can do our own sort of sealed deck thing at home. So they're at least kind of worth it to us for that purpose. I'm a dice dragon and I love collecting the giant spindowns and it's nice that they're a (at least for now) somewhat reliable source for bulk full art basics. We also can't often afford a box when a set drops, so these are a nice way to get a nice view of the set to decide if we want to save to get more of it or not. With sets releasing so quickly we often can only do a bundle or two before the next set is released. I still like bundles. Not for everyone, but I think they're alright especially for newer players who might not have all the land, dice, storage needed yet. They're great for gift ideas too I think. Their decline in offerings is worrisome though, and am worried about the day they're no longer worth it.
I'm a very casual player, and liked the vibes of this set, so it was the first time since last year's Ixalan that I've purchased a product. Was really surprised and disappointed to discover no more set boosters (mustve missed the memo!) as they were always my go to. The new play boosters were underwhelming, but the flavour and design of the set was lovely. Now that the products are less fun for me as a casual player/collector, I'll be less likely to take a chance on sets that don't appeal to me as much. This was a great video + comments section; it's interesting to hear what other people think of the set.
I loved the booklet, it was an awesome guide to organize my card collection. I guess that now that they do 100 variations of each card, it would be more like an encyclopedia...
I bought it! I am new to everything and I adore the lands. I will lightly be into mtg so for me having all the lands with all the seasons without having to hunt or buy singles was great for me.
As a returning player that no longer had storage and picked it up casually, it was a great way to get some cards from the newer sets and get nice storage boxes in the pack without investing into a full booster box. But as you ramp up in the hobby it kinda loses that draw. Adding the corresponding tokens would be a blessing, I always hate not having the play pieces!
Remembering the time when you got a whole-ass novel with the bundle, I willingly, knowingly overpayed 11 dollars for the extras. I got this bundle knowing it was not too reasonably priced because I knew I'd get one of every full art land as well as non-full art you don't get in the regular boosters, afaik (at least we didnt get them in the pre-release sealed pack) - saving me the hassle of having to collect the full spread. Normally I'd go about and trade for them, but I don't like spending any more time at my LGS than I have to, and people were hoarding them themselves. I also wanted more boosters but not a box full of them, so this was a decent mid point and pleasantly scratched my itch. Also needed a new box. Also also, I'm skipping Duskmorne - so I might as well get some more Bloomburrow.
I currently buy a bundle for each main set and the occasional precon, but apart from that it's all singles, so the bundles remain a nice way to get that pack-cracking fix for less than the price of a box, plus I love collecting the dice and do use the boxes for all my storage. I am very happy to see the inclusion of the full-art lands from OTJ onwards, I have a collection of all the non-SL full-art lands so far, and it's a nice way to keep my collecion up to date. The suggestion of including one of each token as well would be an outstanding move, please Wizards.
That might be a video idea to do, open 1 booster box, pre release bundles equal to that price, and play bundles (at same price), open them and show what you get, as well as quality of packs between the different boosters/playsets have
I think my favorite thing about bundles is buying them a few years later for a massively discounted price was pretty happy paying $30 for a strixhaven bundle and just having some boosters to fool around with along with a really playable promo
Awesome video as usual Professor!! Last week was actually commenting on this, found my old Guildpact Fat pack. Back in the day the value was actually very worth it. 2 boxes instead of 1, dividers for the cards, more packs, etc. It's a shame...
Funny thing is that Amonkhet block's bundles had nearly every token in its contents, one of each Eternalize and Embalm token as a way to be able to play with the cards easier and with Bloomburrow, which has a similar "copy token" mechanic, you'd think they would have done that here as well.
I'm a firm believer that no sealed Bloomburrow product is financially worth the cost. The artistic and enjoyment value of the set is a different question, however, because the artwork is beautiful and the mechanics are fun without being overpowered or soul sucking.
I believe with the Amonkhet and Hour of Devastation bundles came with a selection of double-sided tokens of all available in their respective set cause of the Embalm and Eternalize tokens. It would have been nice to see that in Bloomburrow.
Also, the change from set booster to play booster was really felt here, since the set has no special sheet like thunder junction. The opening experience is much closer to opening draft boosters, with lower value overall.
The old bundles, the fat packs we had back then were the best ! I did took one every set there were great ! The book was my favorite part with ofc boosters, you could browse all the set physically without a phone or computer !
This is the first bundle I got after years of not playing, I only packed one mythic and one legendary (worth like 20¢), I’ll be sticking to singles again !
I wanted to 100% bloomburrow as a collection and the booklet would have been nice to use as a little checklist. Plus booklets in general are cool. I miss those coming with video games
My personal experience… I am in love with this set. One of my favourite parts of the bundle is the box and the art work is awesome on it. If it came down to $11 for the box and extras I would 100% buy it. I guess it comes down to how much you like the set though, great vid prof always love waking up to a new vid :)
Making a bundle into a premium product again would be neat, as they've always had the feel of being the thing that players buy as a committment of casual interest for a set. Honestly? Having seen the absolutely kickass new beedle and Grimm's tokens for bloomburrow, working with them to have a couple metal tokens for the main theme of the set would be an awesome inclusion too
Opening a BB bundle as I watch this video. I’ll report out results shortly. Edit: I’m back. Best pulls were: Swords to Plowshares ($15) Season of Loss ($5) and Scavengers Talent ($5) Couple other dollar cards as well. Overall- Not terrible B-
For bloomburrow I decided to split a booster box with a friend instead of my usual bundle + prerelease box. I did this for the pack per dollar value. 18 packs vs the 15. I found that despite having a better value per pack I did not have more fun with the product. Because I spent on the box, my budget for the set was mostly used up before I even got to participate in any events for the set. Sure I participated in a draft later but I missed out using those cool foil full art lands and spin down die from the bundle at prerelease. Also I got way too much bulk from the booster box, even if me and my friend made sure we had one of each card. With Duskmourn I will be returning to my bundle + prerelease ways and cut out a fast food meal or two for an extra draft.
For this bundle, I was hoping they would give us a full set of the season land arts for each basic land type. I like buying these boxes with my buddies to play fattles. There might not be crazy value (like there used to be), but they're fun to play.
Peace Offering is such a good deck. I played it for the first time and by turn 3 I had 5 lands and 2 mana artifacts. I then got a class enchantment that summoned 8/8 tokens every time I picked a land on my draw phase (40% chance or more with scry), a creature that lets you draw if your opponent casts two spells a turn, tons of drawing cards, a creature whose power and toughness is equal to the number of cards in my hands and a creature that poisoned the opponent if they sacrificed non-creature tokens. At the end of the game I was also five cards away from drawing a card with an instant win condition but I ended up just overrunning my opponent with 8/8 tokens and other creatures because I had such a card and mana. advantage. I can’t imagine how good this bunny hug deck is in a 4 player game.
While the decrease in land count does suck for newer players the need for basic lands becomes moot fairly quickly as lands tend to pile up in bulk pretty fast. Instead I'd would drop lands down more if instead it contained featured lands of that set being either a few duals lands or a couple specialty lands from that set. I do fully agree with the sentiment of getting good physical media. A lore book or something containing the story of what I'm actually playing is very helpful to pass the time between matches at the LGS. Or some other type of trinket would be cool. Maybe one set has a cool figurine of the arena mascot. a keychain, or even a different type of life counter.
Honestly, I bought the bundle primarily for the box. Would have loved that booklet as the art for this set is fantastic and so nostalgic. I really love your idea of the bundle coming with one of each token from the set. It's annoying trying to track down tokens and I feel people would buy the bundle for a token pack alone. The bundle should be a celebration of the set in some unique special way, it should feel like a gift instead of just a box of basic stuff. That being said, I love the boxes. Great for storage.
I am just beginning my magic journey. So far i only have one cheap commander precon. I am very seriously considering this bundle if for nothing more than to try to collect bloomburrow as my first full set. Those pretty lands look really neat, and I currently have zero lands or tokens outside of what came in my precon lol. I can see it online today for 40 bucks, which makes each pack 4.44.
By adding a set of tokens and upping the lands to 80 or 100 even they could definitely rebrand these to be 'draft bundles'. Then you could have yourself a mini draft night with a couple friends
one thing i loved from purchasing pokemon elite trainer boxes was how they included the booklet of what cards are in the set!! i wont lie, when i first bought a booster box (which was, indeed, LOTR but i started playing when DMU came out), i half-expected to find a booklet. may i have the booklet, dear lord wotc
I actually love bundles, I don't have the funds for a booster box of every set, I tend to buy singles. But I get the experience of opening the set and I am a sucker for spindowns.
I really want them to bring the basic land count back up because while I am a Basic Land Enjoyer, the bundles are a great place for new players to start. Thus a new player is gonna want a lot of basic lands to help build their decks, like Prof mentioned.
100% agree. Should've all been full art basic lands - 40 total. Half foil, half non-foil. Definitely want to make my standard mouse deck include only full art lands and I don't have enough.

I might buy 2. I love having the matching tokens
@thatonedudejake you need 2 of each you run; tapped & untapped tracking is important.
hasbro would rather encourage you to have to gamble by buying packs to get the tokens you want
Amonkhet and Hour of Devastation did that for all the embalm/eternalize stuff. I'm shocked they didn't do it here.
Now THAT is a great idea

I'm actually headed down to my LGS to play for the first time tonight to see if the game's for me, and these videos have been super helpful in deciding what to buy if I end up liking it. Thank you Prof!
Still playing? I just started myself
Im falling inlove with the new otter cards in thinking of making a full otter standard deck
I've seen them. They are good and give that good Izzet feeling with a convoke thing going on.
Turning the bundle from some packs in a box into a full players toolkit would be so helpful and exciting!
@@MatthewOstergren I’ll check those out - thank you!!!
Nice Arrested Development reference!
I generally can't even play with the foil lands because they're too curled. The removable box was also great for storage, I am sad that it's gone
New shuffle up and play episode next week? Can’t wait! Thanks for the great content Prof.
Thank you for reminding me of the booklets. I miss them so much.
I used to pick up a bundle to make two sealed decks out of. The 40 lands were perfect for making two limited decks. But now with only 30 you have to hope to open a variety of lands in your actual packs to be able to do so.
Fully agree. They should have 12 packs, so it can enable 2 player sealed. Therefore also more lands would be good, alongside tokens like in Amonkhet.
My spouse and I missed the prerelease due to travel, so we got a bundle and three more play boosters to do our own sealed.
I like mine - nice to have the full-art lands. Wish they still came with the inner box, though. 3d printed one, but still.
Holy moly I love those guides! I'd buy them on their own, I'd even spring for a premium edition for Bloomburrow in particular!
I think I have one from Amonkhet? Good old days...
Got my bloomburrow box and the pre-release. it really just for was the memoire of this set. its been my favourite in a while.
Oh hey, a Fat pack! Oh how nostalgic
Yes. If nothing else, the lands were gorgeous, the box is gorgeous. Maybe not financially, but I loved everything in mine. 💕
I don't even play magic, but I love this channel.
That might be a video idea to do, open 1 booster box, pre release bundles equal to that price, and play bundles (at same price), open them and show what you get, as well as quality of packs between the different boosters/playsets have
I think my favorite thing about bundles is buying them a few years later for a massively discounted price
was pretty happy paying $30 for a strixhaven bundle and just having some boosters to fool around with along with a really playable promo
While I personally disagree, I can understand why you'd think that. It's a gamble, you either pull nothing or some great stuff you want.
Financially worth it, like... as in from a speculative perspective?
@@derekw104I think they mean cost of the pack vs what you actually get in the pack. There are very few rares in this set that are worth $2-5.
New player here. Very worth it for me 😊
I believe with the Amonkhet and Hour of Devastation bundles came with a selection of double-sided tokens of all available in their respective set cause of the Embalm and Eternalize tokens.
Totaly agree with token pack, great idea !
I miss this book with all cards of set.
This is the first bundle I got after years of not playing, I only packed one mythic and one legendary (worth like 20¢), I’ll be sticking to singles again !
Those booklets were so good as a "header" for set binders.
Honestly? Having seen the absolutely kickass new beedle and Grimm's tokens for bloomburrow, working with them to have a couple metal tokens for the main theme of the set would be an awesome inclusion too
I enjoyed getting a bundle right before the prerelease so I could use the nice Bloomburrow lands and the big die as a life counter
I've always loved Bundles because of the dice and the storage boxes!
A token pack for a set with so many varied token generators (because of Offspring) would have been really fitting in this bundle.
Good ups on the prof getting some good conditioner hair looking great
10 packs and a Novel. I miss those days of the Fat Pack.
Opening a BB bundle as I watch this video. I’ll report out results shortly.
Edit: I’m back. Best pulls were: Swords to Plowshares ($15) Season of Loss ($5) and Scavengers Talent ($5)
Couple other dollar cards as well.
I miss the days that the 'fatpacks' used to have novels. Great video!
I need to see a crossover video with the MtGMoxMan. Two of my favorite people to listen to. Wish they lived in my neighborhood.
I totally forgot that fat packs came with a novel!! That's why I loved Ravnica so much
Thank you for revisiting this topic!
I was just yesterday wondering if I should get one for my birthday next month. This video came at an incredibly opportune time, lol.
I do like the idea of having a token pack with every token made for the set in the box
I grabbed 2, just for the lands and spin downs.
My LGS has them for 45 and they owed me a bunch of credit.
So it was definitely worth grabbing to me.
Love that I got my Factor notification around the same time as this video! The Professor and ginger teriyaki salmon are a great combo!
I bought so many bundles for World wake because it was all full arts. Same for BFZ, I bought one. I still use Zendikar lands for most of my decks.
100% agree. Should've all been full art basic lands - 40 total. Half foil, half non-foil. Definitely want to make my standard mouse deck include only full art lands and I don't have enough.
