    Keep it up Stevie! The younger generation needs to hear this for real. There's so much you can learn about these artists, their struggles, the culture, their mentors, the craft they bring to the game, etc. What can you learn from all those mumble shit out there? Wake up people!!

    • @musicthemusicalperson4316
      @musicthemusicalperson4316 3 года назад +1

      The majority of Marlon’s fans are from the younger generation. 😂The majority of lyrical hip hop fans are from the younger generation. 😂 I’m technically old enough to be considered an “old head”, but we absolutely have got to stop with this whole fallacious “generations” rhetoric. It’s untrue, denies people of their individuality, and unfairly stereotypes an incredibly diverse group of individuals. Most hip hop fans tend to listen to a combination of trap and lyrical hip hop. The value one places on music is entirely subjective in nature. People are allowed to listen to what they like. It makes no sense to complain about another person’s personal preference in music. Music is just a collection of sound waves that are being interpreted by the brain, and everyone is going to have different tastes. Not everyone is going to like what you like, and they are in no way obligated to do so. Some people don’t like hip hop, and love heavy metal. But you don’t see me trashing their preferred sub-genre just because they don’t like mine, or I don’t like theirs. Hating on other people’s preferences such a pointless, immature, trivial, and toxic mentality to have. No one is forcing you to listen to a sub-genre you don’t like. With streaming services and RUclips, there is room for everybody to listen to whatever sub-genre they enjoy.

    • @pearl0938
      @pearl0938 3 года назад

      @@musicthemusicalperson4316 you may be right. But, just look at the number of album sales these guys are getting as compared to the more commercial artists. Look at the RUclips views for their music videos. Look at the size of their concerts. You need to see the bigger picture my man.

    • @musicthemusicalperson4316
      @musicthemusicalperson4316 3 года назад +1

      @@pearl0938 It’s irrelevant. You can’t view one’s preferences in music and then extrapolate that towards drawing conclusions about who they are as a person or their character. I know chemists, biologists, data scientists, philosophers, etc. who listen to genres you may not prefer to listen to. That’s ok. People are free to enjoy what they enjoy. Lots of people absolutely love the horror movie genre. That’s their personal preference in terms of genres. That doesn’t mean that people will then just start becoming serial killers. It says nothing about their individual character traits, People are allowed to enjoy what they enjoy. If you’re in an art form for fame or acclaim, then you’re probably not in it for the right reasons. An artist shouldn’t care who is selling more than them. There is always going to be artists from various different genres and sub-genres who are getting more or less attention than you, and it’s superficial and trivial. They should make music because they personally enjoy it and because they love. There are always going to be sub-genres of music that appeal to certain people’s preferences more than others. You can’t force people to enjoy things they may not personally enjoy. The value judgments one makes about music are subjective. People are allowed and free to listen to whatever music they like or prefer.

    Nice interview. I came across Marlon a couple of years ago, popped up in my feed one day when I was going through some 90s New York hip hop. Big L, Rakim, A Tribe Called Quest, Gang Starr, Mos Def, and so on, that lyrical shit. Marlon popped up in that bag, that's sayin somethin homie. I listened to the first song and knew he was in the pocket man. Went down the rabbit hole and listened to everything. Craft lives up to his name, drops bars and beats consistently, more than that, he knows, loves, and respects the culture, and thats evident in everything he drops.
