If it's a stolen one or if the similarity you can't deny is so slight that you can accept it as unintentional. That is so ridiculous. To save the facts: The Rubinoos song is awesome. Nothing more to say.

Made adhd-like google searches as always. Stumbled across the lawsuit involving this song. This band sued Avril Lavigne because it sounds like her Girlfriend song. The song above was made in the 70’s. Their lawsuit is settled but it doesn’t specify if they won or not.
@TheRealCritique Actually she has written and co-written most of her songs. She has also wriiten songs for Leona Lewis and Kelly Clarkson, and has been writing songs from a very young age. One of the songs on her new album "Darlin'" she wrote about her sister when she was 15.
Yo soy Little Black Star y aún así me gusta está canción! Avril no copió ni vergas, estas cosas se ven mucho en canciones, como el "Hey!, You!, Boyfriend, Girlfriend, i Want, Gonna, etc"
Hmm... After hearing this one, Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" and then this one again, I must conclude there are similarities of rhythm, harmonies and chord changes. Also, the Rubinoos' melody can be fitted comfortably on top of Avril's. My guess is that somebody in the production process knew "I wanna be your boyfriend" even if Avril didn't. Personally I prefer this one for two reasons. First, Avril sounds horribly possessive; and second, it reminds me of a time when I was 17, there was a girl I didn't sing this melody to, someone else very soon asked her to be his girlfriend, and she took him!
@alex3erynys the "hey hey you you" of this song and "Girlfriend" have a very different phrasing, and the way the rest of the chorus follows from the "hey hey you you" is very different in the Rolling Stones song (Get Off of My Cloud)
@xxxSIANNYKINSxxx Avril Lavigne, and her record publisher admitted to using this song as the basis for "Girlfriend". The Rubinoos were well within their right to sue.

Calm down, folks. Avril Lavigne didn't steal this song. So she put "Hey hey, you you" at the beginning of her chorus. Big deal. This isn't the only song, let alone the first, to use those lyrics. Just listen to "Get Off Of My Cloud" by The Rolling Stones. The chorus goes 'Hey hey you you get off of my cloud'. The Rubinoos didn't copy the Stones. Avril didn't copy The Rubinoos.
