This game is under a temporary 99% discount on the Switch eShop, so I decided to look for reviews. Yours was the first one I watched and it convinced me to give it a try; and to subscribe to your channel. Good job! Thank you!
For 20 cents?!?!? There is NO GAME that's not worth picking up for that price.... if youre into old school games, that we had back in '95, it's for you
This game looks great. Metroidvania games are by far my favorite types to play, I will definitely pick up this title. Thanks again for helping me find great games while avoiding games not suited for my play style.
The title alone encouraged me to buy this let alone the story. I only wish it looked more like Blasphemous in graphic quality. Definitely buying this tho. Thanks Budget Gamer!
Yeahhhh... Even for the $2 it costs right now on the US eshop, I'm going to pass. The look and higher difficulty are scaring me away. I appreciate your review, it saved me $2 I can spend on a cheeseburger!
Thanks for the review. I love this genre but given the price and the sheer glut of excellent titles out there, I think I will hold off on this one. I also love top-down 2-D Action RPGs, but they are far less popular. With that said, I wanted to bring your attention to a criminally overlooked 2-D top-down action adventure puzzle game with a beautifully distinct art deco retro-future art-style that's in the vein of classic Zelda (but is NOT a mere Zelda clone) called Retro Machina. Sorry for the wall of text. I am not affiliated with the developers, but this game deserves waaay more attention than it's gotten thus far, and I really want to see whether the Switch version is worth getting from reviewers I trust. Help me, Budget Gamer. You're my only hope.
Hahah! Thanks for the amazing comment, and for the game reference! I honestly had not heard of it before and now im pretty curious. I'll see if I can find it on the eShop. 😎👍
The game is what it sets out to be for sure however the amount of glitches, boundary breaks and clearly unpolished gameplay makes it like it was put on the eShop in its beta test build. Definitely more detail work is needed but it was a fun playthrough. And it is not as hard as people believe, if you do your homework enough on the free movement you have to your disposal you are Godly to the bosses and enemies.
I bought it. Be warned: game play is very shallow. Enemies are not challenging or even interesting. Boss battles are just mindless slugfest. You can cheese the game to grind gold too. Which diminishes difficulty. I would give it 4/10 Music is good, if misplaced. And isn't retro like graphics.
I agree! If you can stay alive though, you really wont have to grind, but it works wonders for initially re-balancing the power curve, if you have difficulty keeping up with the initial learning curve.
Thank you! I'd say that if it hits the $5 mark, it is a must by, but with the current $9.99... well.... you'd have to really want it. Haha! Happy Gaming!
For its original price it misses a lot of of things that other metroidvanias offer, i even would say its original price makes it a terrible choice even for someone that does love and play a lot of metroidvania. But i have seen it on discounts a lot of times, at the time writing this comment there is an offer of two of their games together bundled at a 90% discount which ended up for me checking out reviews of angel's punishment and Toroom. Bundle offers this metroidvania and a roguelike game at 2.99.
These games, man... It's been a long time since seeing you play and talk about a game that sounds...fun. I look up to you like the fun college professor but I'm concerned you're twisting into a mad philosopher scientist extracting the world's meaning out of 1.99 games. Anyways, I love your videos!
I feel the same way. I love the Budget Gamer, but some of these games reviewed lately STINK! There are so many more 2D action platform games on the switch that are way better
@@ToolShopGuy yeah. The way Cody nurtures some of these games I suspect that a chunk of his audience is developers, the makers of these budget games- just starting out. People are liking these games in the comments. Yes, most of these would rank high back in the day....But with so many other great titles and time being the precious resource it is... it's in the subtext of the review that he lets me know the game isn't for me. I tease and worry that budget gamer's perspective of video games is not looked down the well trod corridor of 'fun'. I hope he has fun.. But I also leave room for the idea of Budget Gamer being linked to cult of gamers that chew up MegaMan 2 and Cuphead and every 8bit simile in their rites of gamer worship
Hahaha! You guys make me sound waaaaay too awesome. XD I do do this (dodo... Lol!) for the devs, but most certainly for the fans. I don't review EVERY game I play, but if I think one is going to be worth it and it baits me, with all my experience... well... I try to get the info out there. One of the biggest issues with Indie games is that the greatest devs may have no idea about marketing, or even be able to afford it, so their covers look like MS Paint, and their descriptions are inaccurate, but the game may be AMAZING and still... no one ever hears about it. So, I cover them. I have never been paid to do a review, and I like it that way. Keeps me free. The other thing is that Shovel-Corp and all its subsidiaries ARE good at marketing and trick people into wasting their time and money on gash-grabs. That's not gaming. Gaming as a service, micro-transactions, repetitive tasks to keep up with ever-increasing game scaling... it's just cheap and while it can be "entertaining," some of these are hard to really even call games. So, I try to be very supportive of developer efforts that seem sincere, even if flawed, and if you have seen my review of "Hollow" you know I reaaaaaaaaaaally don't like being tricked into buying trash. Hahaha!
I liked the game, it was my first metroidvania, I just finished it but unfortunately I went on a mission to kill all the bosses in a single game and then I left and the game was deleted:/ and also the immortality ability is broken, those are my only complaints
Thank you so much for the review! I'll watch gameplay of it! Anytime I hear a game that has the horrifically outdated Savepoints, I don't even start it.
Seems cool, proper old school! I know you've probably forgotten dude and it's waaaay back in your backlog, but you REALLY need to play and complete Horace, your truly missing out
Oh! I did pick up a copy last it was on sale, so I am capable at the very least, but they need to stop releasing so many Indie Games! Ugh! The backlog!!!!
@@BudgetGamerChannel backloooooooog!!! Yeah lol, I really need to get into mine too. But seriously, Horace is the best game I've played on the switch, in fact (as I think I've already said) it's the best game I've played since space harrier (my all time favourite game, making Horace my 2nd favourite game ever). Just perfect. Funny (and I mean proper belly laughs), witty, horrifying, jaw dropping, endearing, soooo sad in places (I was tearing up more than once which I've never done) and kick ass! You care about ALL the characters, their so well done the protagonist in Horace is just really innocent awesome character (may look like a lego/ roblox ripoff, but be damned do I want... no NEED a model of him now). And the story, its so full of nuances, twists and turns, drug and substance abuse, mental health issues, conspiracy theories!!! It's just got everything! Oh, and the games awesome too! 😆 🤣
This one seems a bit... drab and rigid. You've mentioned that it took you an hour to get to the first boss, but can you elaborate on how many hours one can expect from this ? Even the reduced price of 9.99 seems steep to me, so maybe that would be this title's saving grace for me.
Maybe 4-6 hours? I'm a little surprised at the price. I think I must have gotten a different discount because I payed closer to $4.99 🤔 I would wait for a deeper sale. 😅
It's $2 right now, I just very watched this review expecting you to say it sucks based on the screens hots. I want to try it but not sure if I can get past the lackluster art style.
Yeah, the list is a bit outrageous. It's on sale for $9.99, but I think there may be an additional dev discount cause I swear I payed closer to $4.99. 🤔
Been watching you since you first started. I gotta say... I really hope you allowed yourself to play Yakuza Zero or something lol You've been so consistently busy with these indies
I apologize for being rude, but this game looks bad, to put it mildly, some will say this is a retro pixel platformer, it's very sad when the developer doesn't try to do sonething good... everything is as primitive and formulaic as possible. This is my opinion, you can disagree with him.
Totally agree with you. The graphics and gameplay physics look like below average. I totally hate all those oversaturated indie games claiming to be retro, just to get away with garbage like this. I had to look this game up for actual gameplay since they didn't show anything in the Nintendo shop (mostly a warning sign it's probably gonna be bad), thus stumbling on this review. And geez, it's even worse than I expected. No way in hell I'll pay 25 Euro's for this.
