The Montreux Jazz Festival takes place for two weeks every summer in Switzerland, drawing 250,000 music lovers to the shores of Lake Geneva. Since 1967, the Festival has celebrated all genres of music and generated countless legendary performances. Artists who have graced the stage of Montreux include Aretha Franklin, David Bowie, Prince, Bob Dylan, Lauryn Hill, Kendrick Lamar, Leonard Cohen, Marvin Gaye, Miles Davis, Nina Simone and many more.

One of the delights of the past year for me has been my discovery of Sarah McKenzie with her various combos. She is what our friends across the Pacific would a triple threat - pianist, singer, songwriter. She leads the master musicians in her band with a quiet assurance.
A fantastic jazz performance and one of the greatest. Please issue this for sale !
She is new to me but I'm enjoying this immensely. Great players all around. Warrants further investigation for sure!

The guitarist is fantastic! I must admit, though, that what grabs me most of all in jazz is the piano comping in the 'background'. I am always amazed at how pianists know what chords to play, especially as they are all so complex., and follow on from each other so quickly. And Sarah's voice and lead piano ...WOW!
This is why I keep searching RUclips for jazz artists. I have found so many great musicians. Sarah and her quintet are exceptional. This the kind of jazz that I can sit back, sip a drink, and be transported. I play guitar and have been teaching myself jazz and music theory for the past four years. These performances keep me inspired. Thanks, Sarah.
Do you have any recomendations for teachers? I usually listen to Metal or Classical but I've gotten into Jazz recently, but it's just so complex, like sometimes I don't even know what I'm hearing, I just now I wanna figure out how to make music like that
@@Ihatemyusernamemore hi, as far as on line jazz teachers, there are a lot. I follow Jens Larson, Matt Otten, and Rick Beato among others. My recommendation to you would be to begin learning music theory. It’s the language musicians use to communicate. And any online teacher worth their salt, would be using theory to teach. Rick Beato has a big text book online on music theory. And it’s usually on sale. Their is no magic formula for learning jazz. It takes dedication and practice. Thousands of hours. But the reward is worth the effort. Music theory, in my experience, is the key. Good luck! 😎

Gee, this is great! Paris in the Rain is elegant and stylish, full of flaire. It is rare to hear an original jazz composition equal to the great standards. This girl did it! (The problem with so many singers nowadays is that they perform instead of singing. Miss McKenzie sings and so do her sidemen.)

All the improv you could ask for and a fine songwriter and singer to boot. That is one complete package. I’m looking forward to many years of hearing more from her.

Could you please tell me someone what kind of jazz subgenre is it? I want to find more music like this but I don't know how to properly describe it for a search engine. Or maybe you can recommend some musicians or bands? BTW, I found Emilie-Claire Barlow music also very good.

Oczywiście polskich muzyków.
I like her but she sings as if she isn't taking it seriously or trying her best. There are notes which come off flatter than they should.
Sarah is unpretentious and relaxed, very Australian.
I don't know what part of the concert you refer to but at 28:50 she asks for more vocals in her monitor so maybe she didn't heard herself well at certain moments causing the flat notes.
She did say around 15:00 that she is nervous as it is her first time performing @Montreux.
She is a great singer.

Since many many years, decades, Yamaha had become one of the most worldwide reliable music partner for classical or jazz musicians, concert halls, conservatories and so on.
Probably the best in her gendre but move over to Lily Alan for ' strict tempo and of course Ebs Buckle for a Joan Baez look alike Oh don't forget little Emily Barker for Wallander classic ,Hey but Sarah here's my rave "hot" Then step back for perfection in Terney Sutton .
