What is quite possibly the most anticipated Helix firmware to date, frimware 3.0 is out now! In this video I take an in depth look at Dialing In... the Polyphonic Pitch FX that we have now included with our Helix. I really hope you enjoy this look at these exciting new FX.
As always, thanks so much for watching...

I was about to buy an expression pedal, simultaneously watching this video.
I just discovered that I don't need one, thanks to Poly Pitch paired with a momentary footswitch assignment.
You just saved me $50+
Thank you
I'm so damn happy with the 3.0 firmware
Nice job Jason. Great explanation on how these effects work. After Beta Testing this, the Helix keeps getting better in my opinion. This is the best update so far. Thanks, and keep up the good work bud.
The "slightly detuned" dry signal plus low octave mix at 12:50 sounded so SICK! That's the sound I've been looking for! I didn't know to detune like that! I never have seen that trick. Thank you!!!
PS- also the expression pedal trick at 22:30 is super beast
Wonderful, all I needed was PolyPitch in my pod go, so I'll be migrating to the Zoom G6 soon.
Great video! Delivered exactly what I wanted to see which means I now know how all this works without having to spend hours trying to work it out myself!
Thanks 🙏 Been waiting and requesting this for a long time
Awesome, thanks for this. Best part was the Over the Hills And Far Away reference, lol
A question a lot of people will wonder . Is can the Poly Pitch replace their EHX Micro Pog?
This Update is an absolute game changer! ❤️
Wonderful, all I needed was PolyPitch in my pod go, so I'll be migrating to the Zoom G6 soon.
Another use of being able to change the cents up or down would be to match to songs that were not recorded at A=440, such as “Black Hole Sun” or “Don’t look back in anger”.
Like always, thanks for the great explanation of the parameters. This helps to get a good tone in much shorter time!
Bass down on the 12 string sim works great. Great tip.
I feel like a lot of the features in the new update or frankly over my head so I'll be watching closely to your tutorials... lol Cheers by the way that guitar looks awesome
welcome to the club but its nice there are there.
Great video Jason. I notice with the 12 string emulation and the treble cranked up, you get some of the chimey sound of a Rick
Great Vid Jason, thank you for all your hard work.
Another great video. The hype built it up but now I understand why I wanted it! :)
Thank you Alex! Glad you enjoyed the video :-)
i recommend using a bass amp model when using a pitch shifter effect with octave down sounds. When using my ehx bass9 pedal in front of the hx stomp i always use a bass amp and it sounds a lot better. that is no surprise because it is an amp for the frequency range of a bass. when i switch between guitar and bass sounds in one preset (with snapshots) i also switch two amps blocks (guitar amp for normal sounds and bass amp when octave pedals/effects are active). So you get the best sound for both worlds in my opinion.
interesting
Great video Jason!
Well done! Great explanation.
Hmm, will need to see more demos of this before I decide if I really want a Digitech Drop or not. A lot of folks will be looking at this update to see if they can use the Shift to avoid tuning down or getting more strings.
It would be great if there was a way to reasonably play Viljd or HLB without a 30" scale neck and set of 14's :D
Wonderful, all I needed was PolyPitch in my pod go, so I'll be migrating to the Zoom G6 soon.
Jason, can you make a video working on to make a David Gilmour tone? Perhaps specifically Comfortably Numb solo tone?
pls no
Thanks for the walk through on the poly stuff, when is line 6 going to bring out a dedicated auto wah like boss AW3. Or if you have some ideas on creating a decent auto wah I would love to see them, keep up the great tutorials Jason.
Cheers and Beers from Down Under.
4 minutes in and you already explained some of the limitations I was seeing with my HX Stomp XL fresh out the box. Thanks!
Hey Jason. LLLLOOOOONG time no here for me :( Sorry. Need to catch up. been out of the loop. So happy to hear 3.0 is now out. Need to update my LT for sure to try some of the great new features out. Awesome that they added this. I bet lots of folks will be digging the capo and 12 string effect options to play their fave (LedZep and "insert USA symbol bird name here" 's cover songs) hahah. Cant wait to see your other vids you do on the 3.0 additions. Keep up the amazing work. BTW cool new guitar that I havent see before so will have to find that video where you formally inrtroduced it. Cheers!
You really have to crank the volume to drown out the strings sound ( I found that out using my old variax ) or yes, use headphones.. onstage is usually ok tho.. Poly pitch could definitely come in handy for playing along to recordings and old records that are not quite to concert pitch, especially with the cents control.
Third time same question ( from three separate persons): please what is the amp model you're using in this enlightening video? I know it is not the point here, but just as a matter of curiosity - sounds so good.
Is the Poly Detune part of this group? I like micropitch shifting for that 80's EVH sound. Looking forward to trying that with the poly detune.
Looks like I may be able to it use this to get a "feedback" note without using an Expression Pedal. Thanks
Man, that 12 string sounds better than the variax! This is said as a variax owner
I was hoping I could use it with the expression pedal to dive to a lower pitch. Basically a floating trem but polyphonic. I would need the shifted pitch to be absent until I dove with the pedal. Doesn't seem it’s capable of that.
Meanwhile i just bought a Digitech the drop. Time to do a shootout between the two units.
Same here
Hello there!
Is it possible for the Helix to add decent bass sound to a guitar (acoustic or electric), ONLY to the lowest note, while keeping the dry (not bassed) signal, available for further processing?
In other words, does it have the functions of the new BOSS OCTAVE OC-5, embedded within?
Always great vids!! Question, is this in HX effects also?
I think a “Helix 2”is inevitable at some point...Line6 has created some great algorithms that are starting to tax what the Helix is capable of....I would love to see a Helix with as much processing power as the Fractal AxeFXIII....Imagine what they could do with more horsepower...Helix sounds better and better with every update...I use the pitch FX quite a lot, like the Dual Harmony and detune stuff...
2x more DSO = 1.5 to 2x the cost so.... but yeah some out there can afford it like Touring musicians (oh wait scratch that...no tours/concerts anymore until the vaccine is widespread so....) not the best time to be launching an even more expensive product until pandemic is OVER but Im sure its in the workds for sure it takes YEARS to develop these systems.
@@sjsphotog I didn’t say when, but there will be a successor to the Helix....The Fractal is $500 more than the Helix,so yeah,it’s more....but certainly not double....Helix is 5 or 6 years into its life span...5 or 6 years from now, will it still be around getting updated?Maybe....more than likely it will be replaced by then..
@@scottpeters4401 it will be obsolete, that’s why I am selling mine the 1st of the yr. after only having it a yr and going back too my 65 DRRI. Can’t beat the tone and simplicity of micing up an amp turn it on and play.
@@chuckm9603 Helix and other modelers certainly aren't for everyone....I use both real amps and a Helix...I wouldn't want to live without either one..
@@scottpeters4401 yes not for everyone. The helix is a great piece of gear no doubt, but I would rather use my amps and be without the helix and put my focus towards my playing and keep it simple. Thank you.
Can it be set up so one footswitch move it up one semi tone and hitting it again make it go up another semi tone going up and up each time. Then another footswitch shifts it down one semi tone at a time?
Hi Jason. I think with your first few dive-bombing demos you had the mix set to 50%, which made the dive bomb effect a bit hard to hear clearly. Otherwise, great video as usual.
19:14 "whammy" bar dive bomb w/o a Tremolo... lol
thats what i,m looking for
Thank you for this in depth video Jason! Did you get a chance to compare the new Poly Capo on the Helix with the system that is build in to the Line 6 Variax? I am wondering how well the Helix can tune up or down compared to the Variax given that (I am assuming) the tuning change on the Variax is done per string (which of course allows for more flexibility).
Amazing video! Thanks! Does anyone know if the Poly Capo consumes less DSP than Poly Pitch? I would guess it does but you never know.
L3333337ENCY!!! hahaha. what?..... just messing. Good video.
9:45 jason does djent!
So, no Pog/Hog style pedal?
Now I need a better recording headphones!
Hey, nice video, thanks! 😀 Do you know, if ist possible to modulate the cents or the pitch with a lfo?
Nice video. Can you tell me what amp model did you use on his video?. Thanks
Hi Jason! As an Line 6 artist, do you have any information about the possibility of getting more than 3 snapshots in a future Hx Stomp update? The 3.0 update was cool, but it just doesn't seem fair that the POD GO has more snapshots than the HX Stomp, specially since anyone has the option to expand the number os footswitches from 3 to 5 just by using the EXP/FS in a the back of the unit.
It would appear to be impossible to have five on the stomp
Hey is it possible to set the pitch shift to one output and a regular guitar amp model to a different stereo output. I was thinking of sending one output to my guitar amp and another an octave lower to my bass amp. Is that at all possible
Hallo. Thx for this great "Dialing in". I'm missing a parameter setting for the key. Don 't i need something like that? Greetings.
maybe if it were a harmonizer
What amp sim are you using here Jason?
I wonder why, in all these updates, they’ve never done a nice graphic representation of the device being modelled. Is it copyright? It would be so much friendlier than those sliders.
they kinda do give away hints though...I would also like a clear model
Is this available in the hd stomp? Thanks!
12:35 Instant King Gizzard!
Hmmm. Kind of a yawner for me. Lots of artifacts unless you add distortion to cover it up. The 12 string effect is not too bad, however. I was hoping there would be intelligent pitch shifting off single notes, for smart harmonies based on key and scale settings (TC Helicon style).
Try "Twin Harmony" in the pitch synth models.
hey Jason when using HX edit how do you save a preset or a block i don't see no save on that screen. Sorry off subject.
@@majesticpbjcat7707 Thanks, got it Ctrl S
So they've effectively killed a key feature in the functionality of the Variax with this. Come to think of it, these new crazy algorithms could give way to a 2021 all-new Variax. Or else even build a Variax in the form of a SW module into a Helix, to be used with piezo bridge pickups in electric guitars.
has the ability to change the led color always been a thing on the helix? i have an hx stomp and i cant seem to find it. Also, on hx edit the full 8 blocks are not showing for me :(
Have you updated HX Edit to 3.0 yet?
@@neilomac i updated hx edit to 3.0 and that fixed the blocks. but i still don’t know how to change the color of the foot switches.
Any advice how to fake a bass guitar sound in real time using my guitar.
snapshots
My Helix LT is not showing the new poly pitch effects on firmware 3.0.
Can i use poly pitch and poly wham at the same time?
Only if DSP availability will allow it depending on the rest of the preset.
It destroys the Digitech Mosaic.
What is DSP?
Builder man DSP is digital signal processing...With the Helix it is possible to use too much DSP according to what and how many blocks you use... DSP is limited. Effects, amps, pre amps etc use a certain amount of DSP. Some use more or less than others. Hope I explained in a way you can understand.
Hey Jason, when you update the firmware does it also update the Native plug in or is that a separate update?
Hey Jacob, that is a separate piece of software you will have to download and install...enjoy!
I´ve downloaded early this morning and I can see in the hx stomp the new devices but, not in the HX Edit, also there are items that simply disapered from the hx edit, disapointed
Did you update hx edit as well?
@@BrianCarrekerGuitar Hello there, well, I´ve updated my HX Stomp using the HX Edit on my computer screan, cliking on the bottom right corner, I don´t how if I need to, up date the HX Edit. The issue is is that now I can´t see the 8 blocks nor the output, neither the new fxs and amps
@@robalo61 You need to update Hx Edit to 3.0 as well.
@Ron Gillespie Thank you guys, I´ve been trying, now I think that I have a problem with my PC Windows 10, coz when I make the back ups, these are in Adobe Acrobat reader dc and I can´t open them, by the way, as usually, the video is excellent
I upgraded my Stomp to firmware 3 and my outputs main disappeared... Whats up?!!
