Awesome product, even for the price and lack of battery. I use my corded verison 1-2 times per year and can put up with the cord managmenet for that many times. Having a cordless one means I could easily dethatch every week if I wanted, meaning that even if I don't get the whole yard done in one battery that's not a big deal. Thanks for taking a look at this!
I just dethatched my part of my lawn for the first time with the corded version you reviewed earlier in the year. Absolutely amazed at the amount of thatch that came out. The cord is a minor inconvenience but with just a little planning you can place it so that it doesn't get in your way. I plan on doing the rest of the lawn tomorrow and it's nice to not have to worry about running out of juice and needing to recharge.
I used my corded Sun Joe for the first time this year-last weekend - and it worked great! When I put the blades on it to aerate, it pulled out even more thatch. It took a while for me to learn that I needed to work my way away from the outlet, so as to not get tangled in the cord.
Great video as always! I’m in Mass as well, thanks for all the tips! For those of you that will purchase the corded version, a good tip is to work from your house or power source away to the edge of your lawn. That way, the cord will be trailing you and won’t be where you are trying to use the machine . Learned that the hard way!
I just used the my brand new greenworks corded de thatcher this past weekend. Wow you were right. it was sweet , easy and worked perfect. Thank you for your review which is the reason why I bought it. Can’t go wrong with either one. Great channel.
Just ordered corded version. Gets here Wednesday. Hope it works well. Been using lots of your advice. Including tenacity and humid acid and sea kelp mixture. Lawn is looking much better.
Thank you so much, I only share stuff that really works. Please let me know how it works for you, I think you will love it. The corded version is the best deal in lawn care!
I don’t think you will be disappointed. I purchased the corded version over a year ago and it works great. Having to attach an extension cord to the machine really is a small price to pay compared to what a gas powered unit cost, and considering you will only use it once or twice a year the cord is a small inconvenience. You will be surprised at how much thatch this light weight unit will remove from your lawn.
It's nice to see some videos that are actually applicable to my lawn and not "I have a bowling green lawn and I'm going to level it with 10 tons of sand using a 4x4 and and iron drag I welded myself"
Yep! I saw reviews for the corded dethatcher and noticed the 40v version. It was out of stock but I checked everyday until it was in inventory. I’m very happy with the cordless version and my extra batteries.
I believe you can adjust the height on the cordless version even though the instruction manual doesn’t mention it. Pry off the plastic cover on each wheel and then use a Phillips to loosen the screw. Then you can adjust each wheel to your desired height.
It's strange how they advertise Three positions for the cordless "three-position tine depth" but then NOTHING in the manual about tine depth adjustment. Quite the overlook - thanks for the clarification.
Thank you for doing this. Obviously the cordless version is going to be more expensive but it’s worth it to me to avoid the cord nonsense. Awesome review, very thorough. If it performs as well as the corded one, I’m sold.
Thank you for these great videos. I have used Greenworks cordless tools for a number of years. It is great to know that Greenworks also has a 40v Lithium battery dethatcher. I already have several of these 40v Lithium batteries for my other tools, so this is perfect for me to use. I would recommend Greenworks cordless tools in general for all of your lawn care needs, as well as SunJoe. Both are great brands.
Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower ruclips.net/user/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.
I have the corded one and used it the other day. Unless you have other green works tools. The battery is probably going to die from lack of use. My dad has the green works cordless lawnmower which is pretty good.
The corded version is really unbeatabale for the price I totally agree with you, if you need the cordless or have other tools, its a great choice but the corded one is amazing
I just ran my sun joe yesterday. Similar fantastic bargain. Don’t forget to include the cost of the PROPPER extension cord. 14 ga for 50’ and 12 ga for 100’. That’s a $50 cord easy.
Timely video, as I'd dethatching my lawn today :). I have a tow behind for my lawn mower, so we'll see how that works. I wish Ryobi made one of these, I have a bunch of their lawn tools already.
I only use DeWALT 20v cordless tools and have about 7 batteries. From 1 hour to 4 hours. But all my lawn equipment is 2 stroke or 4 stroke. Did buy a new DeWalt 20v pole saw this year. 😆
Yea, good video, i would like the corded version, but i can see the future.. comments about circuit breakers popping, and the extension cord feels hot to the touch, for some reason
I Purchased a corded version about a week ago. I used it for the first time three days ago. I wish I had purchased a cordless version for about 50 dollars more. I will use this machine no more than once a year, so I can put up with the hassle of the cord.
Stay with it, the corded version seems to work a little better too. and year after you you won't worry about it. I love battery stuff but this is one case I think you got the right one.
A major challenge for someone with a bunch of other cordless tools is dealing with yet another battery/charging system. For example, I currently run Dewalt & Worx tools, with multiple batteries & quick chargers for both systems. The odds of me adding a 3rd system? Not very likely...
I totally hear you on that one. If you get one, choose the corded version, works very well and you eliminate that issue but I know a lot of people must have cordless and like the battery tools so at least you have a few choices now.
Interesting, my Sun Joe dethatcher did a good enough job and I'm going to use it again this year, but cord management is a huge PITA. I would need to do a lot of recharging though to finish my lawn. I purchased an Agri-Fab lawn sweeper this year to pick up the debris, 🤞that it works, raking was the worst part of dethatching the lawn (my lawn mower has no bagger).
The pickup definitely takes some time and it blows my mind how much stuff comes up. But when its all done it's definitely worth it. Those sweepers look pretty cool!
I bought a third party mower bag and made some adjustments to attach it onto my Greenworks dethatcher. Saves a lot of time not having to take out another tool. Too bad they don't make one for this dethatcher.
Thank you, use that thing forever. It easily the best valued tool I have ever gotten for my lawn and no batteries to deal with. For some people they have to have a portable and I totally get that so at least you have a couple of options.
Greenworks owes you a commission after the two videos on their corded & cordless dethatchers. How's life on the Cape? New Bedford native here. My uncle used to be stationed at the old Otis AFB.
They DEFINITELY do!!! @greenworks I have probably done more for them than anyone. BUT the product is really good and it's been great to share something that is affordable and works this good.
Thanks for doing this video. I’m in Massachusetts too and just did an overseed last weekend. Would detatching In The spring after doing a fall overseed hurt the new grass?
I looked to see if you could get these in Australia. Green works do have local distribution it looks like they only do cordless here and don’t have dethatchers. I found one Australian website selling the cordless version, it was AU$969 (approx US$740) with “free” delivery, and when one looked at the fine print despite being an Australian website charging Australian dollars, it was actually shipping the item from the US.
I have been binge watching your videos in order to step up my lawn game. Love them. Quick question though. Is that a lot of thatch to have in a well maintained lawn? My lawn is nowhere near as maintained. Would this machine handle it, or do I need to rent a full sized one?
I used the Sunjoe and it broke 10 minutes into it. Every brand has flukes and problems so it may have just been a one off. I tried the corded Greenworks and loved it. If you check out the reviews it's done very well. I would buy it with confidence, if you do let me know what you think but have found it to be an amazing tool that saves you from manual raking. amzn.to/2z4NaeY
Well I. Bought the green works corded one yesterday it will be here by the 20th so thanks for recommending it I'm sure I'll love it and your video helped me decide to get it
There are a few different ones, but I usually over seed at around 2.5# on the SR2000 that will be around the K setting, but you sometimes need to adjust depending on the seed type and size
Silver Cymbal thanks, my seed is on the way and I will be getting aerated in the next week or 2. I have been battling a massive outbreak of Bentgrass this year and finally decided to smoke it all out with roundup after months of losing with tenacity. I will be busy over seeding and starting over in the coming weeks.
Very interested in this item as I saw a video this summer. The gentlemen highly suggested dethatching through the summer months with the Sun Joe, once a week at least. Why do we wait to do one big “thatch” in Fall, SC?
I waited until this week because you have to cut your lawn short to de-thatch. Cutting to 2" in the heat of the summer can really stress out the grass and scorch it if you go through a dry spell. We finally got some cooler weather with rain in the forecast and it seemed to be the perfect time to de-thatch and fertilize. Once-a-week de-thatching sounds like overkill. I'd suggest cutting the lawn at a higher height and bag. This will cut down on the amount of grass that gets left behind building up as thatch, and won't stress out the lawn by needing to cut it too short.
Silver Cymbal - first off thank you very much for all your videos! So much valuable information and such a down to earth way of encouraging others to do it yourself! You've definitely encouraged me to go out and make my lawn look awesome! One question I do have for anyone here is what happened to the cordless Greenworks dethatcher? A month ago I saw it for sale with the link on amazon but delivery wasn't until May 7th 2021. Now its not even showing a delivery date there and Greenworks website doesn't even have the tool, did they discontinue it?
you would have to get 2 battery packs. having only one is a pain, when it dies you just have to wait before completing the task, that would drive me nuts. yea, even though its a pain to have cords, the corded version is much better. I did mine last year for the first time and it wasn't really that bad with the cord.
I purchased a sun joe one which came with a scarifier in addition to the dethacher. Now, should I just scarify? From what I have read, scarifying dethatches and aerates at the same time. What are your thought? My lawn is not in good condition.
I have this exact battery powered dethatcher. The battery dies in roughly 20 minutes. Get the corded version. Or, get two batteries to have a backup ready. It does a good job otherwise.
I'm considering the corded version since my yard is around 4100sq ft. I would need a 50 - 75 foot extension cord, what thicker guage do you recommend??
Great vid...quick question...how long did it take to recharge the battery after running it 30+ minutes? Just worried we have to wait a couple hours between each set.
35 minutes is just not going to work for me. This is my big problem with most of the new electric powered lawn equipment, most charges won't even last for a complete lawn care session, which is why I stick with gas or cord. I just bought the corded SunJoe.. That thing is awesome.
Hi Jimmy, This is what I got according To HOME DEPOT regarding an extension cord for the dethatcher by SONJOE MODEL # AJ801E EXTENSION CORD= Woods100 ft. 12/3 SJTW Outdoor Heavy-Duty Extension Cord, What does 12/3 mean, because there was one that was a 16/3 I think. Will the 12/3 be sufficient? I ordered the dethatcher today and it will be here in 6 to 9 days from SUNJOE. And Jimmy, I really do appreciate your assistance. Take Care and STAY SAFE and STAY HEALTHY Al Occhino
assembly required?! Hello John Deere, do you have a dethatcher for my 22hp 445 lawn tractor? you do? and it's 52"?! i can be done with dethatching in just a few minutes?! i'll be right over!
You don't need to cover it at all to get great results from overseeding I wouldn't use thatch it doesn't break down well. Watch my easy lawn renovation here: ruclips.net/video/BOYQ3wQInBQ/видео.html
Wow, $350 for the cordless machine plus charger and battery for only up to 40 minutes? Nope, I will stick with my corded machine I got for $97 on Amazon!
Not at all, because each one is on a spring, if it hits a hard object it just folds back and won't hurt them. Similar to if you were using a had rake, just faster and easier on you
How can I kill the roots on crabgrass, I use the tenacity and it works well but it doesn't seem to kill the roots, we live in palm bay Florida I would love some advice

This is the first time I've ever heard of "dethatching". I miss the good old days,,, when all you had to do was water and mow.

35 minutes is just not going to work for me. This is my big problem with most of the new electric powered lawn equipment, most charges won't even last for a complete lawn care session, which is why I stick with gas or cord. I just bought the corded SunJoe.. That thing is awesome.
Love, love, love the SunJoe!
Its seems that this Cordless Dethatcher is hard to fine. Oh well. I guess I'll try next year.
It's now sold on Amazon
I have a 60V greenworks tiller...wonder if they make this dethatcher in 60v so I can multitask the batteries
I was wondering the same. I have the 60v and 80v batteries from greenworks but not 40v. Please let me know if you find out.
No offense to other people but this cost almost 3 to maybe 400 dollars with the battery and the charger I think I’d rather get the one with the cord
Can I use the Ryobi 40 V battery with this machine
Have tried the sunjoe version?
Hi Jimmy,
This is what I got according To HOME DEPOT regarding an extension cord for the dethatcher by SONJOE MODEL # AJ801E
EXTENSION CORD=
Woods100 ft. 12/3 SJTW Outdoor Heavy-Duty Extension Cord,
What does 12/3 mean, because there was one that was a 16/3 I think.
Will the 12/3 be sufficient?
I ordered the dethatcher today and it will be here in 6 to 9 days from SUNJOE.
And Jimmy, I really do appreciate your assistance.
Take Care and STAY SAFE and STAY HEALTHY

assembly required?! Hello John Deere, do you have a dethatcher for my 22hp 445 lawn tractor? you do? and it's 52"?! i can be done with dethatching in just a few minutes?! i'll be right over!
Great Video SC, Does Greenworks have a good weed eater as well, so that I can use the same battery?
Can I use this after seeding??
What are those tall bushes you have by the pool?
With how difficult it is to buy peat moss these days, is it ok if I use the thatch pulled from the yard to cover my new grass seeds?
You don't need to cover it at all to get great results from overseeding I wouldn't use thatch it doesn't break down well. Watch my easy lawn renovation here: ruclips.net/video/BOYQ3wQInBQ/видео.html
Wow, $350 for the cordless machine plus charger and battery for only up to 40 minutes? Nope, I will stick with my corded machine I got for $97 on Amazon!
I reviewed that one also, it's an unbeatable deal: ruclips.net/video/Ea1wG2iLJFA/видео.html Only get the cordless if you absolutely must have it.
My lawn isn't ugly just dandelion + it helps the bees🐝
dandelion roots are very medicinal also
@@voidisyinyangvoidisyinyang885 Yes, indeed!
Steve I just bought the Sun Joe I have an irrigation system do I need to be concerned when I run the dethatcher ot should I put up flags ???
No if you use this type of machine it wont be an issue. Commercial dethatchers with solid steel blades will damage sprinklers
So wait.... you have a rider and push dethatched??? You know you can get a tow behind by brindley for $128 right? 48" too.
What is the additional cost of the battery and charger?
What can I do for st augustine grass since roots run along the top?
$199 and it doesn't even include the battery and charger? Plus, you only get 40 minutes out of it? Man, that is disappointing.
I would buy this one instead for the best deal: ruclips.net/video/Ea1wG2iLJFA/видео.html
nice
Looks like an improvement over the corded version. The corded version couldnt hold a candle to the sunjoe.
Your mowing patterns really bother me, haha but good informative video. Good job my man.
Those are just a scratch mow for dethatching, this is regular ones: ruclips.net/video/c54WSOI-MMc/видео.html
Does it damage inground sprinkler heads in the lawn ?
Not at all, because each one is on a spring, if it hits a hard object it just folds back and won't hurt them. Similar to if you were using a had rake, just faster and easier on you
How can I kill the roots on crabgrass, I use the tenacity and it works well but it doesn't seem to kill the roots, we live in palm bay Florida I would love some advice
I use a dethatch rake to remove crabgrass
