I don’t know how you managed to make a seamless video on Nazca and Malcolm in the Middle without it feeling weird, but you did. Loved all the little details you squeezed in throughout, too. 14:12 Also, HEYWAITAMINUTE-
I may be a cartoon/anime lover, but Malcolm of The Middle is by far one of my favorite TV shows of all time. Modern Family, Moesha, Sister Sister, The Parkers, Everybody Loves Raymond, King of Queens, The Goldbergs, The Middle, The Bernie Mac Show, The Office (US), Emily in Paris, Everybody Hates Chris, and Parks and Recreation are also my favorite TV shows too.
I had a funny-story to tell… My uncle has a wad stack of CD-binders containing CDs & DVDs, four discs were Nazca. When I saw Shiogami, I knew something clicked in my mind when I see that man of pale skin, the smug of his smile, long black hair, and red bandanna, that something out of Malcom that finally ties everything. Still, that ending theme-song…pure nostalgia… PS, the voice-acting studio that did Nazca was New Generation Pictures, which has a fascinating category of Pioneer & Geneon anime and games, mostly obscure to well known like Paranoia Agent, Ergo Proxy, Street Fighter 4 & 5, and more to say.
I remember trying to figure this out back when the show was airing and when I did I bought the whole series on VHS. Funny I recognized it because of an ad in an anime magazine I had and was like “OOOOH the anime from Malcolm in the Middle!”
Malcolm is still my favorite sitcom, it's criminally underrated! I'm so thankful for this vid. U can easily google what this anime was, but all I ever got out of it was "the anime was Nazca. It's not that good." Like I wanna know what it's about and why it's not so good! This video fed my soul and I feel a stronger connection to Malcolm now so thank u for that
So as a peruvian ... Yeah Nazca is really missing on being ... True to our culture , but is mostly a curious case for us to see how Japan adapts our history into their shows so... Is just a weird thing
Malcom really was a show of it's time. Anime has such a different stigma in the west nowadays that you probably wouldn't see that kinda thing in a sitcom now.
I’m Peruvian and had no idea an Incan anime even existed. It’s really cool because our Incan history is almost NEVER represented in any form whatsoever in pop culture even though it’s really interesting. Great video!
I hope Nazca gets a remake for a modern audience. The anime and manga have potential to be truly special and stand out from today's series. The story intertwined with Incan history was something I absolutely loved, even if it wasn't historically accurate.
Finally, my one true purpose as the only living Nazca fan (you actually thought there were 10 of us? HA!) to explain to you why you're wrong. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you never mentioned their warrior names, you only called them by their modern names. The main characters are Bilka and Yawaru. Why Yawaru is the perfect mentor villain: he mentions before the final battle that killing Bilka in the past erases his presence in the present. So he provides a final teaching moment for his pupil by sacrificing his life, and his ambition, to validate that he took the true warrior's path. He dragged Shiogami with him meaning everyone either of them killed is no longer dead, essentially erasing every bad deed they did from reality and memory except for Kyoji and the gang, wrapping everything up in a neat little bow, no tears just owning his shit and leaving. A simple and perfect ending, you just got distracted by the budget animation and didn't get into it, nothing wrong with that. Now I can finally rest, my watch has come to an end.
That’s a good explanation. I wish more of it was communicated in the show & didn’t need to be interpreted. Also I never called them by their warrior names because it would’ve been complicated to explain to an audience.
This video sent me on a TMBG kick so I will point them out in another video at some point. I wanna revisit the DVDs for the kids albums they did, cause I grew up on them
God my siblings and I picked up the DVD for Nazca at Walmart for like a buck or smth and we were shook when we realized it was the anime that was in the opening. Even having this vid pop up on my recommended feels like a fever dream tbh.
I've been watching Nazca recently and being half way done, I think it's decent. The voice acting is passable, but I have a hard time focusing on or understanding the plot. Plus, the flashbacks take up too much time and interrupt the story like you said. I will say though the music is beautifully orchestrated. My favorite track is Phoenix. The same music I believed you used during the scene with Malcolm's mom. Edit as of June 3: I finished the anime and while it was heartbreaking, it felt unsatisfying.
I loved this show, I'm good friends with the actor who played Malcolm's best friend in the Wheelchair with the asthma attacks. Hes an awesome dude with an opposite personality.
Considering how big anime was exploding in popularity in the late 90's-early 2000's, especially amongst millennials like me and Malcom and his brothers, the anime intro makes sense. I was around the little brother, Dewey's age at the time when the show aired, and that is when my anime infatuation began with DBZ and Gundam.
I can't believe this man chose not to flatly ask a question to be analyzed in the beginning of the video. Posing a question and analyzing the subject of said question for 30minutes is so ubiquitous in RUclips content that it's unbearable. This creator I declare to all is a man of high character and I love him for daring to try a refreshing approach
HOLY SHNIKES! I haven't heard anybody in my entire life every reference 3x3 Eyes!!!!!!!!! That unlocked a flood of memory. That was show was pretty intense.
I recently decided to rewatch Malcolm in the middle because I was feeling nostalgic. The second I saw that anime clip, idk, I got thrown back into my childhood. Those two brief anime clips made an insanely impact on me (that and the stopmotion moments) 😂😂😂
I knew Rick Simone online. I use to chat with him on the defunct LaFlava voice acting forums back in the early 2000s. He was a funny guy. I forgot what his online name was, but he knew the Ceasar monologue from one of the old Planet of the Apes movies from memory. He said he voiced Funimation's YuYu Hakusho's Koenma in the first episode and later got replaced.
Its weird how you can tie so many anime to Malcolm in the Middle. Bryan Cranston voiced Fei Long in the Street Fighter 2 movie, and Frankie Muniz actually provided background voices for some 4Kids shows, namely their dub of Ultraman.
Frankie Muniz hosted the FoxBox on March 8, 2003, but what's your source on Ultraman, etc? The only live-action star I've heard of doing voicework for 4Kids is Matthew Labyorteaux, playing Jaden Yuki in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX under the name Matthew Charles.
@@thejman5683 It's Ultraman Tiga (4K kept the name), and fair enough, I've since come to realize that the show had episode-specific cast credit listings to some extent (with some one-off pseudonyms to boot). Unfortunately, its status as lost media (some episodes lost to time and whatever taped episodes that *do* exist did not seem to catch end credit sequences that often) make it an arduous mountain to climb, like 4Kids' take on Funky Cops. Even so, you'd think something like Frankie Muniz being involved in something like that back then would have more leads to go off of and give this show some modicum of significance rather than be lost to time forever..
THANK YOU !! I have wondered this for all my fuckin years on this earth, atleast the ones after seeing the intro lmao Lowkey felt like this made me like anime just a smidgen more when I was a kid, just seeing that.. anime.. was in the intro.. for Malcom in the middle.. I can't explain it, but it related to me so hard.
Really well made video, I like that you didn't just figure out what the anime was, and then kept the review based on that. I loved the flow of the video. Glad someone made a video on this haha always wondered what anime that was, I actually see a volume of the anime at a local shop all the time (its been there for a while), I'll probably be grabbing it soon because now I know :P It'd be a neat grab.
I remember Nazca solely as a an anime I saw, 3 episodes of maybe? Not because of Malcolm either, I just remember my friends and I would go to Suncoast video and browse their wall of often expensive anime VHS tapes. Sometimes we’d find cheaper titles, and while most were pretty bad to just ok (looking at you Dragoon, my first exposure to uncensored anime boobs), I remember us kind of liking Nazca, but Suncoast only ever had the first two tapes so we never saw more.
So tbh I've been wanting to see some sort of anime or game reference to Peru for the longest, i never knew this anime existed and im actually happy about it. Much love to you bro for doing the research
We never used Incan for the language. Officially they had like 3: Quechua, Aymara and Puquina. Incan is used for material things like buildings, ceramics (keros) like that. But for the ppl, i guess it's right Inca, even though it's technically refering to the ruling class.

I like the cleverness in using that “I DONT KNOW” from the theme song 😂
Nice, straight to the point within a 1.5min love you man
I loved this show, I'm good friends with the actor who played Malcolm's best friend in the Wheelchair with the asthma attacks. Hes an awesome dude with an opposite personality.
You’re friends with Craig Lamar Taylor?
I love this deep dive into a VERY obscure reference in an American family show lol
WOW, thanks for resolving the mystery of those anime clips from the intro of Malcolm in the Middle !
When the algorithm needed him he has finally return
I've always wondered about this anime and I'm so glad to see some more light shed on it! Thank you for this 👍
Babe Wake Up, NICKtendo uploaded!
Great video you have made here. Amazing how you can point out dots you have connected thru out everything, but always stays on thre topic
Maybe the real boss of me now was the friends we made along the way.
The like small spots on the black bars made me think my phone was fucked up
He’s back
as a gundam G fighters fan I have to say this "WITH THE POWER OF KYOJI"
*With the help of kyoji
Well I wasn't planning on learning this today, but I'm glad I did.
It’s crazy how Nazca is known for being that anime that appeared in the Malcolm in the Middle opening for like 3 seconds.
Great Video Nick, this was a really fun one. Also love the thwomp sound effects, though my phone was going off
The video I never knew I wanted to see so bad... This is awesome.
I waited 21 years for someone to answer this question...
I heard Thom Adcox earlier, but that Greg Weisman caught me completely by surprise. What a twist.
IS THAT KICK BUTTOWSKI'S SIDEKICKS VOICE ACTOR?! I think the characters called Günther?
This is closure I didn’t even think I needed. Thank you
How did you know I searched about that a couple of months ago...
Wow, today I was randomly like, "I wonder if Nicktendo came out with new video," I have perfect timing.
That anime clip always stuck out to me lol. The fact that anime was in the intro is pretty insane at that time lol
@@kyubihanyou apparently they dubbed a season of ultra man. I don’t know which one,
@@thejman5683 It's Ultraman Tiga (4K kept the name), and fair enough, I've since come to realize that the show had episode-specific cast credit listings to some extent (with some one-off pseudonyms to boot).
ULTRAMAN???!
Thanks for showing this! I wondered what that anime clip was!
THANK YOU !! I have wondered this for all my fuckin years on this earth, atleast the ones after seeing the intro lmao
Lowkey felt like this made me like anime just a smidgen more when I was a kid, just seeing that.. anime.. was in the intro.. for Malcom in the middle.. I can't explain it, but it related to me so hard.
Ohhh man, i've always wondered what the shorts scenes from Malcolm's intro theme. Nice video!~ :D
There's a video that I found on accident before called "The best fight scene in Jikuu Tenshou Nazca" and it felt nostalgic.
There’s also a Nazca manga by the two women behind many Zelda manga adaptations and two Astro Boy manga spinoffs.
YOOO malcolm video, my mom loves this show so i’ve been watching it my entire life, i’ve probably seen every episode at least 10 times
I actually watched Malcolm in the Middle on TV because of this review.
I love that Smash T.V. sound effect at 7:29.
that’s the thwomp from super Mario
@@NICKtendoReviews Wow it's remarkably similar to the arcade game Smash TV boss damage sound effect.
I was wondering this question for the longest time.
finally the question all malcolm fans have wondered is finally answered a badly dubbed anime just like what we all expected
I guess "Nazca" is Malcolm, Reese and Dewy's favorite anime.
The Malcolm in The Middle opening has to be the most mysterious intro ever. People were looking for the flaming skier and now this anime? Crazy.
Wow this video is really fitting for me, I just finished watching Malcolm In The Middle after starting it last week
0:56 the flying giant brain that clip was used in Ernest Scared Stupid as well
As always! You take a peace of media i don’t care about (malcom and nazca) and make it incredibly interesting and funny! Good job friend!
That was surprisingly deep. Great video man.
So tbh I've been wanting to see some sort of anime or game reference to Peru for the longest, i never knew this anime existed and im actually happy about it. Much love to you bro for doing the research
Never knew I needed this video till did
"Incan" refers to the language. "Inca" refers to the people.
I think I made that mistake because they made the same error in the dub lol
We never used Incan for the language. Officially they had like 3: Quechua, Aymara and Puquina. Incan is used for material things like buildings, ceramics (keros) like that. But for the ppl, i guess it's right Inca, even though it's technically refering to the ruling class.
