He has been my favorite musician since I first heard him do "The Shout" when it first came out. My parents went to a divorce lawyer and hated him so much they just left and went to the beach at Santa Monica and kissed all day and decided to get back together instead. They celebrated after dinner by going to see Les McCann at The Bit just off the Sunset Strip in Hollywood. They loved him so much they bought the album that night and played it for us kids the minute we had all moved in together again. For my whole family and especially me, he is the BEST! My dad wore a hole in Les's version of "A Cloudy Day". For me, "The Shampoo" is the greatest jazz composition of all-time and it will never be surpassed. My brother and I were WWIII all the time except when Les or Booker T were playing. Then we bounced off the walls together. My sister loved no one more.

Les Mccann is from Lexington, Kentucky. Check out his photography book "Invitation To Openness" where he goes into it a bit. In the documentary/concert film Soul To Soul, he mentions it.
