Battlefield 1's Revolution Edition is good for keeping the game alive, but it's bad for several reasons addressed in this video.

We know prices go down over time, and that games get discounted. The issues brought up in this video are 1) Battlefield 1 is nearly 6 months behind the DLC schedule of BF4 & BF3 and 2) The discount is absolutely insane and an insult to those who purchased the 'Deluxe Edition' for upwards of $120. This video is used to educate the topic of season pass pricing stragies and *Price Pinning* by using it as an example.

But can I ask you: We're done with CoD, we're done with Battlefield and right now a lot of people ( including me ) are pissed off by R6 because Ubisoft delayed season 3 again. The guide for smart gamer:
1) NEVER pre-order but wait for reviews.
2) NEVER pay for season passes just wait for reviews on the DLCs.
3) Value the money you possess and inform yourself thoroughly before committing your cash
4) Remember the previous games a company released, did that company produced quality games? Is it deserving of my support?
5) Wait for a couple of patches to release and for the first sale to buy the game your want as you'll get a better experience paying less.

You should never ever pre order a game that is above $60. Especially if the game is from devs / publishers that are know to be shady and untrustworthy.

Im a deluxe pre-order player. I paid about 100 bucks back then. Im happy with my choice. Sure, it doesnt cost nearly as much today, but if id waited for Revolution I would have missed the 1000s of memories ive got since launch.

I wouldn't be as mad if the DLC was already released for a while now. But we are JUST NOW getting the fucking second DLC. This game has been nothing but disappointment after disappointment. I've lost all hopes for BF1, and I hope they just put more time into the next Battlefield and give it a good amount of content from the start and a STABLE launch.

You shouldn't be mad at Dice or EA for this. You should be mad at the people for buying it and keep on buying the addons/preorders/passes. If they don't buy it, Dice and EA wont do it. It is when idiots like you who spend $120 on on a game, that makes it easy for them. Every game developer and publisher would be absolutely stupid to not do this.

Its not that simple. Good pratice and solid consumer service have made CRPR alot of money, and they have a massive loyal fanbase for their next releases. Last time i checked BF and COD genres were making much less then they have been in the past.

While buying the premium service is not always the best choice i agree. It's still normal then that the company deliver on what they promised for that price. With bf1 EA did not do this for people that bought premium.The premium service was like Bf3,Bf4 announced as a year plan.Here EA already failed. We did not get all dlc within that planned year. To make it worse we only got 2 dlc packs yet and just before the second dlc they lowered the price. What means that they did not deliver us the product they promised for the price we paid and then had the balls to even lower the price already.Getting rid of the value premium members payed for. This whole discussion is not about if premium services is good or bad for gaming. This is about how ea screwed people over value wise. So non of what you write makes sense nor does any customer deserve to be ripped off like this. Or you are still young and don't understand the value of money and know how to deal with it. I paid $50 extra for the season pass thinking I'd be saving money in the long run instead of paying $15 for every DLC, now they just make it free with the game. Thanks assholes

Only the first DLC. The only thing one could now argue is that we were able to play the game many months earlier but even then things seem out of balance here.

I bought the delux edt. on day one. I thought the game would be great (for the most part it is), and wanted to get the most out of it. After all i thought that the game would get alot of content, dlc, regularily, like other bf titles and the game looked like it had great potential, considering its ww1setting. What did i get? Currently i have a base game that is content lacking and 1. 1 fucking dlc. The slow dlc is one thing, but this fucking insult is like putting salt in the wounds of those who thought it would be full of content and expanding regularily, and wanted to fund that, but instead we funded this bs company. Fuck u ea

The worst part is that there is only a few TSNP servers. Meaning when the 2nd DLC comes out TNSP will be dead. Also the game is on EA access now like wtf. Like seriously theres no point on owning EA games anymore $30 for a full year of access to all there games. $120 is 4 years

I literally buy all my stuff on the PS store. I still prefer having a physical (refundable) copy of a game, but the marketplace usually have a great sale every week.
I have yet to buy a game for over $40. I bought fallout 4, doom, gta v, Madden 17 (only $10), shadow of mordor ($10) battlefront with all dlc (only $15), and I just got Just Cause 3 for free with the ps+.
So I cannot possibly understand why anyone would spend *over* $60 for a game just for dlc, when you can be patient. Especially when the game isn't new.
That's because the smart and money saving conscious gamer knows that it's best to wait for the hype to die and the sales to hit. Most of my steam library is full of $5-$30 games that ran for $60 anywhere from 6 months to 2 years from the time i bought them, scaling with price obviously the younger they are. But sometimes, very rarely you get a relatively new title for like $10-$15 i got Mad Max that way.
I have all the expansions for Battlefield 4 but I don't even own the game and never paid a dime.

The difference with those though are that the content, or at least most of them, have already released. BF1 is just about to get it's 2nd dlc, almost a year after it's release. So, half the promised stuff in the season pass that people paid $100+ is not out yet, and people can buy the "complete edition" for almost half that price. That's the issue.
GOTY editions usually release AFTER all DLC are already available. Right now, 75% of the season pass content is still missing and they are reducing the price this drastically. This really sends the message of: Don't buy the season pass early because you will regret that.

It's not even about the less fortunate. It's the fans of the prior releases that learned from preorder and premium mistakes that still haven't bought it. I have several BFs on my account, and i'm only mildly considering BF1 due to revolution being 40$.

You pay more to be in the group that gets to experience the content first, which allows you to be in the group that gets to stream first, review first, and be an expert first.
You always could have waited, but then you will be in the other group, watching streams from the first group, read reviews from the first group, and reading tutorials and walkthroughs from the first group.
It's a fair choice.
Anyone stupid enough to pay $100+ for these things in advance deserve what they get.

Well I did it because Battlefield 3 and 4 delivered just fine and I played each one of those 500+ hours and I enjoyed the DLC for it too. That was the only reason I fell for it, because I expected the same thing to happen.

please can you offer some help? as i can no answers from anyone, i bought battlefield revolution which included the premium pass, after finishing the base game i cant access the premium pass or packs included, when i try to access it i get a message that says no content found, ive tried to download them again but now they wont even download again, i feel like ive been cheated, i paid for this but what i cant play it now? can you offer any suggestion what could be the problem?? this is frustrating the crap outa me! thank you kindly
The real problem which you highlighted as well is that usually these editions come after all the DLCs have been launched. It happens with many games(game of the year editions) but when all the expansions are old and played by the community. Now the ones who paid $100 a year ago still have played the same content as the one who will now play $60 because the expansions are not even out yet. But the good thing is that the separation between the battlefield 1 community will now perish to some extent and more players will be playing the expansions. Happy Gaming!

CaPtaiN 115 this has been a common practice in the industry for years. If you're still preordering deluxe editions this late in the game, that's 100% your fault. considering that rainbow six siege delivers those updates for free, of course you can pay 30 bucks if you don't want to farm for the operators, but the content they give us is still free, also a week delay is really nothing

Silly question, doesn't season pass include al the upcoming dlc and revolution all the dlc to date? Meaning, if new dlc comes season pass owners will get it for free (meaning, already payed), and revolution owners will have to buy it separately?
I managed to get the Base game and the Premium Pass for just under £50. I got a pre-owned edition of Battlefield with a 2 year warranty for only £25. So if it ever had issues, I could get a replacement. So far, I've played it for months and not a single issue has come. I got the Premium Pass recently for only £23.99 as it is on sale. Loving the game so far, especially playing with friends! Can't wait for In The Name Of The Tsar DLC to drop!

I already bought the revolution edition. I fucking HATE dlc's and premium stuff, but i have to say this: Battlefield 1 is awesome. The graphic, the gameplay, the weapons, the maps.. even if i hate EA i can't stop playing this game. Just stop buying dlc's guys, it's so easy, all of this is our fault.

It's been 1 fucking year for crying out loud, I paid 120 for the game and the season pass, played the shit out of the game, and enjoyed every second of it. I'm happy for this revolution edition because it will re-launch the game for newer players, keep the game alive, and increase its longevity.

breadordecide That's not the actual problem...the problem is, that GOTY-Editions usually appear AFTER all the content (DLC's) has been released a while ago and has at least been handed out first to those, who paid the Special/Day-One/Deluxe/Whatever-Editions at release...
But now, people are able to get the full package of Battlefield 1 for 60 bucks, while all those who 120 did not even get half the total content.
But they will get other half of contet, not like they wont. And they also played game for almost a year now wtih DLC for over 5 months. And no, game was not 120bucks. This was untimate edition with extra content like skins and few new weapons. Game and premium in my case was 100 bucks and now its 60.
Community was crying anyway that DLCs and premium is too expensive. They got it and we will get new players. Now problem is people are selfish and think they should get money back because they played game for only a year.
Kuky That's not the point...although buying season pass in advamce is always non-sense (you habe no guarantee what you get and if it is quality) most publishers offer you a time exclusivity: you have access to content earlier, others have to wait. But with this move, EA even flushed away this last "excuse" for people to pay additional 40-60$/€ at release, instead of waiting a few months and then get the full package in the standard price of the retail game.
Either way, paing more than 90$/€ fpr a freaking videogame ist total nonsense. No game is worth that price and season pass is just gambling. You wouldn't pay a car, that wasn't even built in that moment, would you?

As for my case with BF1 I really wanted to play the game right after launch, more than any other game since I usually wait months before buying, until the price drops below a certain threshold I make up in my mind depending on the game. Though I anticipated this price cut, well not this soon though, they did the same with bf4 but it was only after at least half of the dlcs were released. In fact I remember I bought bf4 in a similar All-in-one package back then paying less than 30 bucks for it and I was very lucky because Hardline wasn't doing very good already so people stayed on bf4 and the game kept being populated for longer than usual. So with bf1 I only bought the base game for like 40 bucks and only now I upgraded to premium since there was that 40% discount on origin which is a little more than the revolution edition but at least I get to play the base game early.
Hopefully EA is going to move away from this season pass racket, which I always found stupid (like the whole idea of paying for something you will eventually get) for the upcoming games, at least for battlefront it seems they will, my hopes are for the next battlefield too.
Said that I'm still playing the game and I find it a good one, so far the only recent one that mixes cinematic graphics and action in a world war context... world wars period is my favourite for games tbh

The reason I'm mad is because the base game only cost $60 at launch. I brought it in December and I had to work overtime for 5 months just to get the base game. Now a year later, ALL content (deluxe, premium pass) cost the same price as I brought it during the holidays. And DICE is punishing players who brought it early by not giving all content. They should just make it free instead of $50 and don't have premium pass for bf 2018.

I bought the original BF1 game without the season pass, is it worth it to buy it now those who haven't bought the season pass the fisrt day the game came out. Plus there's a bundle for BF1 revolution and TitanFall 2 for 80$ so I don't know if to buy it or not
even though im a huge history buff, and love everything WW1 related, when i got the chance to play the beta of BF1, i was so dissapointed with the game that it felt so much like a clone of Star Wars Battlefront .
its the first Battlefield game that i skipped. but now today i saw an sale on Origin for 14,99 for the revolution pack. titan fall 2 ultimate, together for 22.49, so im thinking, well even though i didnt liked the beta that much,i think im gonna buy it now to give it a try. 22,49 for this deal seems worth the experience of the game.

totally dude people are defending it as its been a year prices tend to be cut but then they should cut prices for the season pass too because otherwise we who bought the game (even if we didnt get the season pass) have to pay in total over 100 dollars either way if we dont get it on sale, and new players can get it all for 60, no deluxe bonus for the shitty red baron hellfighter shit and no bonus for the season pass, nope just plain 60 bucks that we already paid.

$250 collectors edition was discounted to $80 after only 1 month of release, is just 1 of the examples I could mention.

Battlefield 3 did the same thing and released its premium edition in september together with its third DLC.
It isn't a retarded argument. His point is that, if previous games did the exact same thing, why are people all the sudden suprised that the same thing happend again?
Pretty sure that when the next Battlefield game is being released and the premium edition will be a thing in the same month, people would still be suprised that it happend because obviously they didn't learn anything from the previous games. If it happend several times in a row then it should be so predictable now that you should be smart enough to stop wasting your money and be patient.

A_Lone Traveler Agreed, Dice completely screwed up with game modes and content deliver. Match-making is awful and they ruined main modes like Rush and Conquest with hardly no players found in servers.

In previous battlefields, the season pass discount won't kick in until all the map packs are released.
Here, BF1 is offering the premium version for half the price before even the second map pack is released.
75% of the season pass content is still missing and they are already drastically reducing the price.
This clearly sends the message of: Don't buy our shit early.

Why is this news? They did the same thing with battlefield 3 when the premium edition of that game came out. They got all that dlc plus premium weapons and stuff for the 60 dollar price tag. I was a day 1 buyer and had the standard edition.... a few months later the premium edition hit stores. I was salty.

Based on PS4 prices(Sony user) from amazon, target, GameStop, and Walmart its listed as between $40-$45 new after tax. PSN has replaced bf1 with bf1 revolution, so I can't find a price for just bf1 anymore. Thought I'd share that info on current price.

The craziest thing about all this monetary douchebagary is how many consumers don't just buy into it, but support it! I mean, you should see how many people not just support, but are actually really aggressive in their the microtransactions for Shadow of War; and unless they're all secretly paid to support it, it's scary. Kuky no bf1 is the shittiest battlefield. Its not even a traditional battlefield its just battle front with a bf logo. At least battlefront was its own dumb thing but dice/ea took what made battlefield and made it a hollow of what it is. Getting rid of levolution for what 2 mega vehicles that barely do anything At all the blimp can be taken down in seconds the train can be taken down in seconds they didn't change how gameplay worked at all. Levolution changed the gameplay by changing the map and they could've added onto it in bf1 but no.the guns are bland and not exciting which is the the downside of a WW1 shooter. No trench warfare which was what WW1 was known for. There is more problems with this game that i dont wanna go on cause this game is shit compared to its past titles.

I used to play a lot of Battlefield men are so crazy about that game I haven't played Battlefield one in like 3 months the game is repetitive and boring and there is no Revolution coming believe me there is nothing going to happen to the game I'm a true Battlefield player but there's nothing to offer in that game. If you don't agree with me fine but why some of the top Battlefield players like jackfrags and others don't play Battlefield a lot ? Because they said it's repetitive and lacking content . So the bottom line is there is no Revolution coming to Battlefield. if they want to bring more players and start a real Revolution they need to stop the season pass shit it divides the community in Battlefield.
If you'd be a true battlefield player then you'd know that BF1 is the last game with this stupid season pass model. Battlefront 2 already has free DLCs confirmed and the next battlefield titles are also going to have free DLCs

Completely agree, my backlog of games is getting longer and longer so I think I'll skip BF 2018 until it's onto at least the 'Revolution' phase. Certainly won't be buying a season pass again.

The thing is_ with prior schedules- they didnt drop the price until all dlc was out. So you could actually estimate that you were going to pay more if you wanted all dlcs- 4 dlcs at 30 a pop. So 120 plus base game. SO actually getting deluxe edition is hedging bets that you will actually SAVE money on the full game by the time all the dlc is out. This is a fucked up move doing it this way.

The transition from BF4 to BF1 was weird. The gun play, game progression, suppression, bayonet charge, behemoth, grenades/gas spam, bullet deviation, gun/vehicle customization, map design, gun variants..W.. What?, Long ass DLCs releases, lastly but most importantly... The fucking TEST RANGE 😡.
Star Wars: Battlefront is EA & Dice, I bought the Game + Season Pass, but they still haven't given away any of the maps. You still have to buy the Season Pass or par map. Which bothers me because they map queue rotation doesn't included new maps. so there's a drop off of users inside the new maps.

This game is just bad. I'm max rank for everything except vehicles, so I play this game a lot, but I can't go 1 or 2 games these days before shutting it off and regretting how much time I've wasted. The most frustrating thing about this game is that its designed so that you are constantly dying to things you cannot defend or avoid. Pretty much all battlefield games are like this, but not to such a degree that no matter how skilled you are you're going to die no matter what. Whether it's from the rediculous explosives spam, spawns, suppression/random bullet deviation, terrible hit detection, aim assist, no ads because gas, elite classes, plane strafing or spotting flare you're going to die a lot to stuff that you can't do anything about. I could go on about the open map design, mobility problems, things killing you from the other side of the wall, melee issues etc, but anyone who really plays this game knows that it caters to the casual player and does not offer anything to long term players who grind to get better. You're still going to die to players who are less skilled than you. A lot. And not just because they saw you first or you were overwhelmed, it's because- just like the intro to the campaign- its almost the theme of the game to be doomed and die to stuff you can't do anything about. And that just doesn't make an enjoyable game in the long run
Bam Bam BF1 has its issues for sure, but you have to keep in mind that it's different than previous titles. I know it gets frustrating when snipers keep killing you in open maps, but it's only because it's a world war one setting. Try to use a variety of gameplay. I personally find planes very enjoyable. Once you get used to them, you'll be less frustrated with the chaos down.

Remembered when this game released how many people said "dont preorder and take some time before buying it". Im a huge fan of the bf series and played almost all of them so it was difficult to wait. Glad I waited it out. Going to pick Revolution up for 20 euro now.
I really feel what your saying here, especially since I preordered the early enlister edition and premium, but I was ok with spending all that money because I love battlefield and I have known DICE and EA to produce quality games. When I first saw this edition a couple days ago at gamestop, I was pretty pissed considering the massive price break. But after complaining to a fellow player, he raised an interesting point. Offering such a good deal will draw in new players to the battlefield community, especially for those premium access periods on the new DLC's. I feel like this should mix it up to a fair degree, and battlefield players won't be constantly faced by hordes of martini-henry hellreigel supressive MG spam that just sucks the life out of an otherwise fantastic shooter. New players can seriously effect the way devs handle patches and balancing issues, and I think giving them a good deal to get them involved is not an entirely shitty move by EA, though is certainly feels like a big fuck you to those premium day one early deluxe editioners out there.
