  • How to use a spiral wheel gold concentrator. This video show using a gold wheel to clean gold concentrates from a prospecting trip to the Fraser river. The spiral wheel or spiral gold concentrator does a great job of reducing gold concentrates and cleaning up gold. Some people use it as a primary recovery method, but I find it much more effective as a secondary clean up tool. This video shows the use and setup of a spiral wheel. The questions; How to use a spiral wheel? and; How to set up a spiral wheel? will bot h be answered in this video.
    This video is produced by Dan Hurd, Prospector, Miner, Teacher and RUclipsr, as part of his RUclips channel based on educational videos about gold mining, gold panning, prospecting, rock hounding, and mineral collecting.

    Thank you Mr. Hurd! You took the mystery out of this strange, hypnotic device.
    Request: please do an episode on legal issues, staking a claim, prospecting on different kinds of land using different kinds of equipment, dealing with local laws and authorities, and such. If it's all too complex, I'd be happy if you could refer us all to reference materials and/or websites that address these matters.
    Many thanks for all these helpful videos.

    Love the video Dan! Looks like this machine can do a little more bigger material than the blue bowl. So, it looks to me that that 45 degree mode allows to get rid of most of the black sand over the front lip. It does get lost with the dirt and non gold though. But, you can get it back with some magnets at least. I liked the black sand going up with the gold through the center. Your adjustments to control how much black sand vs gold was very interesting in that area. A tube where gold would be caught in the center could get fed into a blue bowl below and the black sand removed and caught in the bucket below. Just would need just enough water flowing so that it can flow into the bowl. A clear tube would be best as you would like to be able to see what is going on and be able to tell if anything is getting stuck in the tube.

      Could the assay process work here? Seems like it should... When the lead oxide reacts and turns into a conglomerate with whatever metals exist in a sample, do those metals fuse at the low lead melting temperatures? If not,reaching the boneash,lead separation step should suffice. If not, aqua regia is your best friend here...pt doesn't react in it. While it dissolves everything else.

    • @bobf6599
      @bobf6599 5 лет назад +3

      The only way to effectively separate the platinum from the black sand is to put it into a crucible, flux it and heat it to at least 2000 degrees in a blast furnace. The flux should contain nickel carbonate in order to recover all 6 platinum isotopes otherwise you lose a lot of the platinum. Recovering the Platinum from the nickel sulphide button is tedious. It's a lot of work but if you are patient it will pay off. I tried to recover platinum with Lead oxide and lost three platinum metals. Palatium is one metal you don't want to lose. But I saw the palatium floating on top of the black slag. At first I thought it was silver but it was too shiney. Looked a lot like white gold.

    I’ve operated a number of those portable spiral concentrates and the one built by Keene Is outstanding because it is not as finicky about feed rate. The ultimate spiral concentrator is the Oro Industries horizontal spiral concentrator. We used 2 of them with different angles to recover ultra-fine gold and they performed beautifully with more forgiveness than a spiral wheel.
