I try not to boil, steep is my preferred method for tea. When i harvest i try to leave 1/4 -1/3 of the chaga to help with regeneration. great to see snow on the ground at harvest! I'm currently working on a chaga tincture, fun to try the different ways to consume!

Very well explained - especially the illustration of the consistency of chaga. Over here, I sometimes see folks chopping lumps/tumors from birches which - from the outside - could be confused with chaga and are then used to boil a practically useless wood-tea.
    Thanks for posting!

My question is ; you are the very first person I've seen that said to use the soft orange part to make your health tea from. I've watched maybe 10 videos on this subject and all the other 9 people said to use the hard black part in making tea a few people said the softer middle part you could grind and put into capsules and they all said the soft orange part was for making fire

I didn't realize fresh chaga would burn so well. I lit some dry chaga and I couldn't put it out! I forage for chaga and other medicine. People on these videos will tell you , "only take chaga from a live tree" (to drink). I've found conks on dead trees that were still fine to use. Some i picked were obviously not good for tea. Those ones are the best for tinder and I think they smell good and would probably work great to keep black flies and maybe skeeters away. Sometimes you'll find them on the ground. if they don't crumble in your hand , hang on to them. I slabbed some to make display boards for arrow heads and stuff. I don't find the tea bitter at all. Kind of bland if anything. Ya ain't supposed to boil either or the trolls will bitch. Cool video , hope you make more.

Really cool. I just did a video on this. It's super hard to find here in Germany. I don't use it for tinder as we have an abundance of other fungi here that are great tinder.
The tea is a true gift of the gods. Stay safe. Just subscribed;)
