Traditional Karate instruction was done by mimicking and copying what the senior instructor did, not by dissecting and studying the individual movements themselves to see WHY the technique works. Ed Parker approached fighting as he would any other science, by using the scientific method, and explaining how body mechanics works and why it works that way in order to achieve efficiency of motion. Kenpo is really the study of MOTION and then its a martial art after that.

Very effective and practical fighting techniques and body movements . I just don't understand why dropping into the splits position was included here. I think you are just a little too vulnerable down there with your legs apart like that on the ground. I would expect that manuever in a Jean Claude Van Damme movie though. Otherwise I love Kenpo, amazing art. Especially like the buckling and sweeping movements. Larry Tatum also has some excellent videos .

Not quite true, Try watching a TAI CHI Practitioner vs and BJJ or Full contact Cage fighter of the same level. Some martial arts have degenerated into sports and have lost their ‘martial’ roots.

I have a question for any kenpo stylists out there aren't you guys afraid of being kicked in the nuts? heres why the neutral bow is a attained by stepping into a stance with your front foot at around 12:30 and your back foot at about 8:00 to 9:00 from training in other styles I am alway thinking that when I am in that stance that im at risk for a groin attack. any thoughts??
Elias Gabriel : kenpo has a huge number of techniques and kata, Krav Maga has limit techniques that you can use against multiple attacks and weapons. I have studies both and my opinion is they are both okay. Students of both styles kinda fight the same, it basically devolves into kickboxing. I have never seen a Kenpo practitioner truly use a technique against a non compliant attacker. I love both systems but if you asked me in hindsight what I would have studied I would say, BJJ, boxing, wrestling, kickboxing, judo. In all those styles you fight like you train there is nothing theoretical if it doesn't work you find out real quick, because you always fight a resisting opponent. I mean this response with all the respect in the world to both styles.
Oh this is funny as hell. I can't believe that people used to (and probably still do) teach this very UNREALISTIC form of self defense. I suggest trying to emulate this on the street and you'll be in big trouble!
+PAUL DOWLING if you've ever studied any the martial/noble arts yourself you'll doubtless be aware that the methodology of all teachings is designed to instil "form" in the student, so that advanced students can perform the actions when required, without thinking. Speaking from my own personal experience of learning american kenpo, I would suggest that these techniques are extremely effective on the street. More-so, even, than the techniques I learned from boxing.
people didn't know any better back in the 60's and 70's so Ed parker got away with his make believe shennanigans. but unbelievably nowadays this is an established "martial art" and people still don't question or realise that Ed Parker was a conman and that this stuff is all kung fu movie nonsense.
Liquidcadmus I see what your saying but you still have to learned it to understand it though but just saying it is still a very dangerous martial art style I wouldn't recommend using it in a cage fight or a tournament

+Ray West if you're in a correct neutral bow your center line is off angle enough that your groin is protected.
These moviments remind me a lot of wushu. Maybe that was an influence.

As far as punches are concerned, I feel that Boxing has more to offer than the punches in Kenpo, Korean styles,Japanese,chinese and okinawan.

Kenpo definitely works 1st degree black belt. I used kenpo it saved my life one time
I also have a black belt in muay thai, both very effective
