I absolutely adored the second edition of this game as a kid. I still have a copy that I play with younger members of the family on camping trips and board game nights. My friend showed me this new 5th edition that very closely resembled the 2nd edition of the game but with more modern mtg style art. Looking forward to your review. Might buy this as a gift for others if it hits right.
So second edition was much more punishing if you lost all your lives or got turned into a toad. You would often lose all your gear on the spot and followers would leave you as well. Dying usually meant starting over with a new charachter and some of your old characters loot but no level ups to your stats. Constantly killing the player on the lead was a common tactic to keep your chances of winning alive if you were behind but it would drag the game on for hours
It is so interesting that this game has such a following and it has been one that I have completely missed. It might have been one we would have really liked as kids.

I have played the hell out of multiple editions since the 1980s, and never in my life have I played a game in 90 minutes lol.
