  • In this episode I have a first go on designing a mainsail for my DIY sailing canoe /sailing kayak.I describe all the thinking and practice in detail and if you are not in to sail making yourself it might be too detailed? If so you can instead watch my video about the jib • How to make a sail for... . I might also make a redesign later on as I am not happy with the placement of the tack seam.
If you want to learn more sailmaking I recommend this book: The Sailmaker's Apprentice: A Guide for the Self-Reliant Sailor by Emiliano Marino.
If you just want have the short version and understand swedish I recommend this link: sysegel.reflex....

Wow very well thought out. 👏 you really went the extra mile. I most of had great shape . I haven't bothered with air foil shapes to the sail ,unless I cut it out of a old sail. For me flat cut sails out of space age material is good enough for me. Thank you for the long video it was great 👍

Thanks, glad that you appreciate it. Yes I did over engineered the sail, I am totally exhausted from putting it together. I had to take a break before publishing the final film about the sail, thus the introfilm yesterday. The finishing of the sail will be published on staurday.

Thank you. Have you read the book and how did you like it if so? I think it is very good but not so consistant and a bit difficult, but the second and third time it makes more sense.

@@sailoutofagarage6212 have only been thinking of sailmaking myself not done yet, or read this book. There's a nice sailmaking course here in the North Netherlands
