he's singing is not VERY WELL, as you described it watch, i'll point it out for you 0:58 to 1:07 he sings fine now at 1:07 you can see that he struggles a little to hit that upper note now we move to this... 1:30 take a bottle on the word "bottle" hes' supposed to go HIGHER instead he goes lower to ease the tension on his voice 1:33 shake it up... this is fine.. nothing wrong here break a bubble ... is fine then 1:37 break it up again.. should be going UP but he's going down but then again.. he's not the lead vocal, so.... yeah and this is why he's backup vocals and he does his part in the harmony and he does his part well.. fair enough i'm just saying, he doesn't have an amazing voice he has a pretty good voice and it's been conditioned over 30 years, that's fair enough but i wouldn't put him in the category of Joe elliott for example

One of the many cool things about this is that he’s had to play this song a million times but he’s not sick of it; he’s obviously really enjoying it and rocking out.
Always liked Phil's licks. Just goes to show you how you can write a classic melody without having to hit a million notes at 100 mph. Much more fun to play this type of music.
Phil was the best thing to happen to Def Leppard since Steve joined. Those 2 together made a cacophony of pure music using Phil's rigid musical theory and Steve's outside the box (Sloppy as they said) style and the result was Amazing. Still one of my all time favorite Bands from that time.

Def Leppard has always been my favorite band since I was an 80s teen. To say that they are still my favorite band speaks volumes about just how great a band they are. Their music and the band have stood the test of time. Can’t say that for many bands. And I am lucky to enough to have seen Def Lepp and standing close to the stage that I caught Phil’s guitar pick after his guitar solo. He threw it directly at me as I had been giving him the guitar picking motion numerous times that he caught on and obliged. 😊

And I’ll just add, there is an E chord used in this song that is on the album, and it’s kinda hard to make. It comes after the single note on the G string alternating between fret 6&7 and he does exactly what I have always been doing. Just making the E chord Barre at the 7 off the A. That made me happy to see. Cause I’ve always been lazy and made the easy E. If Phil can then I for sure can. So I’ve been playing 40 years and learned something.

Saw him on G3 Tour a few years ago, always knew he was a great guitarist but shocked that he sang so well. Has a blues band on the side Delta Deep, pretty solid outfit.
I saw them in '81 when Joe was 19! Pete still in the band. They were like watching a bunch of puppies let out of their pen for the first time! All energetic! Saw them again in '87. Tesla opened for them.They were awesome too! That's when the 2 bands became friends I guess?
criminally underrated guitarist phil collen is, joe actually wrote the 3 chords in the chorus, he picked up a guitar in the studio and he just played that chorus progression and the producer said thats the best thing i heard in years, so thank joe for that cool chorus. phils using alot of echo and delay here, sounds good

Def Leppard as a band had tremendous group vocals and harmonies. It was something they worked hard on to achieve in the studio and something they were able to replicate live as well. Definitely a quality that was probably under appreciated.

The band tunes down at least a half step (not E standard, but E flat / D sharp), which means that what Phil's playing is in C (C#/Db is the song key on the original recording, which was in E standard). Anyway, it's a very fun song to play. So much space that you can have fun with the licks, and that opening riff is iconic.
The dude looks better than he did in the 90's. Instead of pouring tons of alcohol and drugs in his body..(which I did)....you can tell he works out. Look at the live stuff where he has no shirt on..

When did they start tuning 1/2 step down? I used to (try to) play Del Leps stuff in the late 80's early 90's. I used Cherry Lane tablature books and nothing was ever tuned down. Only GnR tuned down 1/2 step.
Phil is one of the best, most unique players EVER. Yet wheres the ego trip? He's like, "Shit guys, lemme show ya how to play it." Then of course there's the character of the man.... When millions of dollars were at stake did he and the guys choose to replace a drummer that lost an arm? No! He stuck by his mate and friend and gave him a chance to come back. Man...that's class people, that's loyalty, that's remembering a friend when the shit hits the fan. Def leppard is in a fucking class of their own. I'll be a fan forever of them. Not just the music but the guys who made the music. Not to mention the panties they helped drop for me. Lol Thanks guys!

Never really dug DL when they were at their peak. I was too much into my KISS only phase at the time. But damn, they have some catchy tunes. Full circle and bit of irony, I was able to work on the KISS/DL tour for awhile. Bonus!

When did they start tuning 1/2 step down? I used to (try to) play Del Leps stuff in the late 80's early 90's. I used Cherry Lane tablature books and nothing was ever tuned down. Only GnR tuned down 1/2 step.

Never really dug DL when they were at their peak. I was too much into my KISS only phase at the time. But damn, they have some catchy tunes. Full circle and bit of irony, I was able to work on the KISS/DL tour for awhile. Bonus!
