  • This video was made simply because I couldn’t find a single video out there outlining the steps involved in replacing the blower motor on a 2014-2018 BMW X5 (F15). Mine is a 2014 X5 35d diesel. Although it seemed like a daunting task at first, it really wasn’t that bad. Just a lot of panels to unscrew and unclip.
    The tools required for the job
    - 8mm socket and ratchet to remove the battery cover in the trunk
    - 10mm deep socket or wrench to disconnect battery
    - automotive trim tools or any plastic pry tool to remove trim work
    - T20 Torx screwdriver and/or T20 socket
    - T30 Torx bit
    Parts
    - Blower motor 64119291177
    - Rectifier/Resistor 64119276112
    - Cabin air filter under glove box 64319194098 (not required for the job but nice to replace while in there)
    I’m not a professional mechanic but I do a lot of work on my vehicles. Somewhat mechanically inclined. PLEASE DO THIS JOB AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!! I’m not responsible for any damage to your vehicle and/or self.
    If there is a better way of doing this repair, please let me know in the comments. All the best and let’s get it done!!

    Great video thanks for producing this. Yes, I agree, no need to remove glove box (and dash trim), the airbag framework can be loosened by removing two screws and the plastic can be reflected out of the way to provide access to all blower motor housing bolts and there is a hemicircular cutout designed to birth the blower motor. Much less risk to the dash this way. But great tutorial for removing glove box if you wish to replace your glove box. Also, the airbag connector is removed by taking a small flat screwdriver and prying the connector top upward about 2mm, this will free up the connector and then pry it out from the bottom of the connector, carefully.

    I just did this.
    You do not need to remove the glove box at all.
    There is a cut out to get the last screw

    Hey, It is kind of intimidating with all the perfectly fitting plastic panels, thanks for showing the pry directions and bolt locations. My wife's car is going out and I am going to attempt this, I have worked under dashes before and this encourages me to save the money and time. Again thanks a bunch!

      You are very welcome! It does seems daunting at first. Take your time. Give yourself a whole day if you have to. The panels come out with little fuss if you pry on them in the right location. It’s a great feeling of accomplishment when done. You got this. Good luck.

      @@dsomas91 I managed to get the parts yesterday and had them in and finished in 2 hours. I would like to add that the panel with the ignition button only needs to be removed to access the glove box screws, I did not unplug the electrical from this panel and just suspended it in place with tape while removing glove box. Two T30 screws at the bottom panel behind the airbag came out making that panel easily flexible. Fan housing dropped out easily for me.
      Thanks for the encouragement here, It helped me see what I was getting into.

      @@kirkpersing4001 you are 100% correct. You do not need to remove it all the way. It’s been a while but I thought I did the same thing. But maybe not. Either way so happy to hear this video helped you get it done.

    I have an annoying noise while the blower is on level one. I’ll remove and clean the electric motor area and see if it works. If not I’ll replace. I’ll test before and after cleaning with it hanging under the dash.

    • @dsomas91
      @dsomas91  Год назад

      Confirm it is in fact the motor. Try it at different speeds. You can tell if it is the actual spinning motor that’s making the noise. If so you might want to have the parts on hand before tearing in. It’s not that hard. Just tedious. You can do it.

    • @sneakingalleyalligator4510
      @sneakingalleyalligator4510 Год назад

      If you disconnect the airbag wire while the battery is connected, you may have to clear error codes with ISTA+ once you fire up the car again. You save a bit of time and not to mention you remove the risk of being shocked.

    Will this slide out without doing all this like previous x5 models?most just took bottom 3 out and drop between floor?

    • @dsomas91
      @dsomas91  Год назад +1

      I don’t believe so. I too looked for videos and only found videos for the previous generation x5 blower motor replacement. In that version (2013 and prior) I believe the motor can be accessed easily. That said, if you find an easier way to do this please come back and post here so we all can learn something new. Thank you.

    I bought the resistor for the motor on my 2016 x5 because I thought its a resistor problem.. sometimes it will blow normal and few seconds later it will stop and be making weird noise..

    • @dsomas91
      @dsomas91  Год назад

      mine did the same and eventually just stopped working. sometimes it will start and I’d hope to god it kept going. But no such luck. which led me to making this video.

      @@dsomas91 so the problem is the moter and not the resistor???

    • @dsomas91

      @@fe7273 I can’t tell that without seeing it or testing it. I am also not a licensed mechanic. I changed both the motor and the resistor because I didn’t want to get that far deep into it and replace just one part.

    hi,.. thanks for the video.. this x5 uses two blowers? one for the driver side and other for passenger side?

    • @dsomas91
      @dsomas91  8 месяцев назад

      I do not know the answer to that. I only dealt with one blower as that was all there was on my model. And replacing the blower resolved the air circulation on both sides of the vehicle.

    Great video! 16 f15 I can hear the air blowing behind the dash, nothing through the vents, can it be the motor or resistor?

    • @dsomas91
      @dsomas91  6 месяцев назад

      I can’t tell for sure. In my case I didn’t hear any air or the blower working. In your case if you are hearing the blower working it might be the doors are not opening/closing? Sorry can’t be of more help. This video was intended primarily as a tutorial to get to the blower.
