    Game looks amazing. Parallax of the sky, Castle. really detailed artwork.

      This game wasn't that great to play, but yes, these are some of the best graphics on the C64.

    Wow, that last stage really does go on and on. Props for playing through the entire thing. Must have been difficult to stay away at times. 😅 Impressive looking game for sure. Too bad the gameplay isn't there.

      Yeah - that last stage is really long! They cut out the level before the tower fight scene as well - just as well, because that's another really long and boring side-scrolling stage...

    Amazing how they got the graphics so close to the Amiga. Shame the scorpion wasn't added.

    Was the green dragon near the beginning inflatable? :-D at 4:10 you would think so the way it shrank and disappeared like a popped balloon :-D Great game this though all jokes aside, I used to play this on my bothers ST back in 1991....happy times!1 :)

    Never knew of this title. The programmers did an Out Of This World coding job. Graphics and animations are even better than Barbarian II but with smooth scrolling.

    • @AL82RetrogamingLongplays
      @AL82RetrogamingLongplays  4 года назад

      It's a port of the Amiga game - the devs did a really good job on the conversion; definitely some of the best art and animation on the C64 for the time.

      @@AL82RetrogamingLongplays My father got it for me on cartridge, but despite the good graphics, the gameplay was REALLY boring and repetitive. Made the same mistake when years later I bought myself another Readysoft game "Guy Spy". Nice graphics and animations but darn it what a terrible game to play...

    The graphics AND the animations are awesome, so fluid. The music is also good, and gameplay also starts really nice but WHY IS THAT FRIGGIN LEVEL SO BORING, JUST WALK AND WALK AND WALK?

    What is it with the Amiga and Commodore having certain styles of games involving long walks back and forth through things? _Shadow of the Beast_ , the game you mentioned this one took the worst gameplay of, just makes me wonder wonder why. One thing I've noticed with the Amiga and Commodore is the animations, graphics and music on many of the games are downright stunning, but the gameplay makes me wonder if the developers wanted more for the games to be technical demos showing what these systems could do, instead of really caring about good game design, if that makes any sense.

    • @drg5352
      @drg5352 4 года назад +4

      I think you have to remember that for a lot of game styles, there was not established "good design". Much of what they were doing was still new, and they were learning what worked well just as much as gamers were finding it out. It wasn't like they could look to decades past for ideas after all; games like this weren't even a decade old.

    • @LPetal86
      @LPetal86 4 года назад

      @@drg5352 Yeah, that's very true. By the way, I really like the different "feeling" I get with these Commodore and Amiga games, as an American. Unlike our games and Japanese games, there is a very endearing difference in pace and the overall presentation is a lot more cinematic in some ways. _Tomb Raider_ by Core Design is one of my all-time favorite games, and the carefully crafted world Lara Croft inhabits is a big reason why.

      To be honest, apart from Shadow of the Beast 3, the SOTB series wasn't good from a gameplay standpoint, on any system. I even found the Megadrive version boring

    • @strzxgvnuvwvfld3597
      @strzxgvnuvwvfld3597 2 года назад

      @@LPetal86 This is actually an American game (Canadian anyway). Their previous project was to convert Dragon's Lair which may tell you something about their inclination for graphics over gameplay! I do think certainly think there is an element of truth to what you say about Japanese developers focussing on gameplay. You often see it will arcade conversions where the computer ports will try to wedge in more technically impressive features from the original that really don't work on weaker hardware, where the console ports will just ignore those parts completely and focus on what does work. There are also a lot of Amiga games that look great from the screenshots, but run quite slowly with bad frame rates.

    Hmm...
    Looks like a poor adaptation or rip-off of Psygnosis's Shadow of the Beast games on a system that can barely pretend to imitate it...
    Still neat effort for whoever made it (no way I could have programmed it, esp back in the day) and thanks for the video!
