    I really love season one. It has a feel to it like none of the later ones. Take them going through this ship with the music.

      Funny that. I mean it in a social way. Because I literally hate Season 1 and in particular I detest Tasha Yar. But each to what they like. As a whole, I am a huge STNG fan.

      a space suit would be a step backward. That is TOS style technology. Riker and laForge would have a life support BELT that generated a protective energy bubble around them filtering the air

Microparticles from the area are teleported, analyzed as pattern buffers, and then returned to their original location. The temperature, oxygen content, presence of harmful pathogens, etc., is all known prior to the teleport. It isn't shown precisely BECAUSE it is an obvious precaution.

    If anyone is still asking why the crew can teleport into an area of unknown safety, the answer is simple. The area is sampled remotely prior to the teleport.     Does anyone else think it is improbable that with a crew of 907, the "away team" is usually, like this clip, the XO, the only android, and the chief engineer?

      If Star Trek had been a real show, we would have seen the day-to-day lives of the lower rankers, people fixing broken stuff, cleaning weapons, etc., not people on the bridge. We all know that the enlisted folks get sent on away teams usually with an NCO lead, but junior officer leading the larger teams. Plus, why would they not have space suits or some kind of protection on.

      I find it fascinating that in all star trek series, the entire crew is only there to get the ship from A to B, so that a group of about six bridge, or command grade, officers can have adventures when they get there. Has always cracked me up.

      There are other away missions that take place with other crew members. We just see the ones that feature the main characters. No different than other cop shows, detective shows, medical drama shows or lawyer shows where there may be other cops, detectives, doctors or lawyers chasing other cases but we only get to see the cases that feature the main characters.

      ​@@russ254but the ship still has the same mass, regardless of whether it's in a gravity well or not. The more mass in your ship, the more energy you have to expend to move the vessel.
      Of course, if your energy source is really abundant, like a (fusion reactor) impulse drive or a warp core, then having excess mass on board is a lot less important.

    Boy, they just walk into a mysterious, foreign ship like they're big balls in Cowtown. No concerns for radiation, pathogens, hostiles, poison gas; etc. Basically throw on a shirt and let's go. Their confidence and optimism, however misguided, are inspiring.

      @@tomp8871 You know full well that toxic gasses cannot go through open doorways in Star Trek. They have been well trained. Same as radiation - a thin layer of plastic stops all radiation.

    Correction: This is from the episode Heart of Glory, not The Arsenal of Freedom. In specific, these shots are drawn from act one, in which Picard has a visual link to Geordi's visor letting the audience see through Geordi's point of view.

      You know, when I was watching Gundam Unicorn a few years back I noticed that while people in that setting do float around in their ships wearing just regular clothes, as soon as they find themselves in a space battle everyone puts on these really serious space suits. You know, because decompression is a thing to worry about when the enemy is firing on your ship. I was like: "Hey, that's actually a really smart idea. Why don't other sci-fi stories do this?"

    Shortly after their arrival on the ship, there is a back and forth between LaForge and Picard about how LaForge views things (his visor's transmitter is turned on so The Enterprise can see what he sees) at one point Picard says it looks like there's an aura around Data. LaForge responds, "well it's because he's an android." And something like "isn't that how everyone sees him?"

      Seven seasons, and how would you have any idea about anything at all with that attitude? One of the most advanced and challenging philosphical goals of the united federation of planets was to welcome everything new, to research and explore, instead of conquering like brutes. You don't get that by watching some guest author stuff. Someone as clueless as you should get a list of core episodes to watch. And THEN comment here again. End of comms.

    And people say the first season sucked. Yeah most episodes were a bunch of clunkers(SHUTUP WESLEY!!!!) but man there were some real gems like this one. Heart of Glory is in my top 10 TNG list. This is one of the first episodes to really flesh out/explore the character of Mr Worf. Michael Dorn is THE MAN in this episode, love his work as Worf, son of Mogh.

      Why the feck don't they all have direct 3d video feed back to the ship?
      Why were there never video cameras in all of the corridors?
      Why aren't they wearing protective clothing?
      Why don't they send other crew?
      Why don't they send autonomous robots?
      If I started, in another hour I'd still only be scratching the surface of all of the stupid and incongruous stuff about the Star Trek universe.
      I watched it and I enjoyed it but........... 🤦‍♂️

    This is an example of Star Trek being insane. A strange ship shows up? Let’s send the second in command, the chief engineer, and a one of a kind android to investigate! No! This is an ensign or Lt(jg) level job. How else will junior officers get experience if you keep sending more senior officers.

      Did the fact that Worf closely resembled the Klingons in STIII and STVI not give away that they'd probably be the same here? We've basically had the same TMP era Klingons all the way through ST: Enterprise.

      for practical filming, there is no screen. The actors have to imagine what they're seeing and talking to. Usually the cameras and the director are right in front of the actor(s). ref. Behind the scenes, ST:NG.
      Wouldn't it be better to have them talk to an actual screen, since the writers already know what is supposed to happen?

    "Heart Of Glory" gets so much hate, but it was one of my favorites from the first season, to the point that after seeing it I wrote (over the next few months) a Star Trek novel featuring that Klingon captain and with Worf and Yar as the primary characters. It'll never see the light of day but it actually holds up fairly well...

    What really gets me is how advanced enterprise has to be when the command post looks like a art-deco living room with comfy chairs and a few touch screens. While everybody is chatting all worry and shit, watching this enormous window which also is a monitor and scanner. Moreover teleporting to a dubious starship without protective clothing or breathing apparatus in an apparent toxic atmosphere and with a such small party, speaks volumes of their tecnical knowledge, extremely advanced genetics, robotics and military skills, the ones currently unknown to us.🤔

    In the real world who is on an away team would depend on the situation. Every away team would have a command officer and one or two security personnel. The rest would be specialists with the given situation.
