Bought a 2020 Specialized as well, rear-wheel ate it on a rock, spit out all the sealant, took it to the folks at the shop, and Specialized replaced my rear wheel with an upgrade including a much better hub within a week. They're solid.
Working in a specialized shop, I will say their warranty process is super smooth, and 9/10 they've sent an upgraded part as a replacement to what was being warrantied. It's also cool seeing them push new tech with their bikes. I also ride the enduro and I absolutely love the bike.
You have had much better luck with them than everyone I know, all I have seen is them refuse to cover things to the point I will never own one or recommend one to anyone. One friend has an aluminium camber the aluminium is oxidizing so badly the dropper is stuck in the frame and were the shock mount is welded to the top tube it's bubbling the paint is coming off and you can see the oxidation. Specialized response it's just cosmetic no coverage. Another friend with an epic, roval carbon rim cracks on a normal ride no crash involved, no coverage but we will sell you a crash replacement. A friend cracked a Santa Cruz Carbon Reserve wheel, new wheel sent out no questions asked.
Say what you want but Spesh is one of the best in the business when it comes to warranty and taking care of customers. I broke a frame and they even went as far to send me a S-Works version of mine but as the newly redesigned new model!
My stumpjumper is aluminum. It weighs 3-4 pounds more than it's carbon counterpart but was thousands of dollars cheaper and I have no worries regarding cracks. I don't understand the allure of carbon.
AL cracks at an even higher rate. And 3-4 lbs? That's got to be in the components somewhat, because most AL frames are no more than 2 lbs heavier than their carbon counterparts, and sometimes less.
@@HarryKuloh ...You prove it doesn't. : - ) You aren't going to find statistics on it, because it's mountain biking's "hidden secret" that isn't talked about when frames fail. My statement is based on my experience, and from talking to others in the industry.

OK...so I am typically one to always say that EVERY bike company has things like this happen, and it's how they respond that is the key. But I'll say it...Specialized is the worst I've seen for cracked frames. I won't name names, but there's a gentleman in Kansas City who has cracked 23 of their frames. He almost wears it as a badge of hono, and insists that Specialized has always taken good care of him. I guess my point is...at what point do you worry that it will happen at the worst possible time and ruin a trip, or possibly cause an injury? And second...as you pointed out, you have to spend the time, energy, and money to wrap it again. They aren't going to do that, or pay for you to have it done. I get it...Specialized is a HUGE company, so you're going to see more frames cracked, because there are more of them out there, and I probably wouldn't think a lot about it happening once. But...if it happens multiple times...I'm moving on, simply because of the inconvenience of not having my bike for at least a week, and probably more in many instances. I can also understand your concern over internet brands, and they crack too....and can take as much as 6 months to replace depending on the shipping cycles from overseas. NIGHTMARE. I have pictrures of the brand you mentioned specifically, that cracked IN HALF in an enduro race right beside the shock mount on the front triangle. I am always a little reluctant to believe statistics, but there's more than one source that says failure rates on carbon are actually less than Aluminum. I could post a picture of an AL YT that has a front triangle that snapped in two! I've had an AL frame crack on the chainstay, but I've had two carbon frame enduro bikes now and have had no issues at all. With the potential weak spots in AL welding, there's actually some disadvantages versus carbon. Also...on a "real world" note, I have literally watched and participated with taking a hammer to carbon frames and cranks, and I was ASTOUNDED at the abuse it took without cracking. I really believe that in the case of carbon, unless it a very focused sharp rock, most failures are the result of issues with the carbon layup during the manufacturing process, such as a slight void etc. We took a carbon crank that someone had run a loose pedal on, and delaminated it around the metal insert, and we put it in a vice and WAILED on it with a hammer, and could not get it to crack through. We finally got some surface cracking, but structurally, it took a BEATING. That convinced me that when carbon cranks snap, it's an inherent flaw in the Mfr.'ing process. I wouldn't hesitate to buy carbon if it's a concern over strength. A bad weld is just as likely as a flaw in the carbon Mfr. process based on everything I've seen. If it's about the $1K difference in cost...then I certainly get that!
Willbros Thank you a lot for your reply. I will keep saving for that bike then. Makes sense. What I have to do is to verify the warranty or just go local.

If it's Specialized's fault - they should pay for a new wrap. Surely that is the law? It's the right thing to do anyway. Spec has very good testing equipment to see if there are the tiniest of faults in the fame. So this could well be a design issue. People need to be careful and keep an eye on theirs. Interesting to see whether there will be a recall.
I'm waiting for my Spec Enduro frame to come in... Starting to wonder if I should have gone for a Ripmo AF. I suspect your crack has to do with the very short seat tube length on the Enduro. You seem to run your post fairly high out of the frame, so there's going to be a relatively short engagement in the seat tube and a lot of bending stress in that area. It's supposedly the reason Specalized specs a weird 34.9 seattube diameter. In any case, hope that's the end of your troubles.
+1 I agree with this. I have actually cracked a frame (aluminum) in the exact same spot. I was running the seat post to high so there was to little left in the frame to give proper support.

They knew you were a popular RUclipsr, I bet that's why they sent an S-Works frame. The location of that crack you showed us makes it appear that your seatpost over stressed the area.
Wow replaced in under 2 weeks!?! Consider yourself lucky. I broke my Giant Reign in October and it took over 10 weeks to get the crash replacement... at least it's the 2020 frame now :)
I've broken frames of most of the top tier premium carbon bike manufacturers... it's how they deal with you that makes the difference. I don't think you could ask much more of a company than to have you a new frame within a week and an upgraded one to boot!
What a drag! I have a friend who's cracked several previous version Enduro frames and I was really hoping that Specialized had improved their quality on this bike with this new iteration. It looks like such a great bike but if their frame quality is still this bad, i'd approach with extreme caution.
Awesome looking bike mate👌 I do like the colour of your old bike though. I had the same experience with a 2016 comp carbon Stumpjumper which was 3 years old and it ended up with a crack in it, week and half later I had a new S-works frame, super stoked, glad I went with this brand they really stand by their product, best warranty experience ever! Thanks Specialized👍
That’s pretty cool. I’ve heard horror stories from people dealing with specialized in the past. Glad to hear they care about customer service. I’m still gonna opt for the Canfield balance but if that wasn’t an option I’d def be looking at an enduro.
Trevor Bavarskas yes they do for sure, I was just surprised at how quick it happened. Only speaking from my experience which is old school technology the alum frames cracked through time from hard riding and would more likely dent if you hit a rock. That being said I would totally take a carbon frame if the price was right since I’m not riding at the level I once did and frame damage would probably be from hitting a rock. Aloha
1000750 I think you’re spot on about that, it’s true the only cracks I’ve seen on alum frames are from hard riding over the course of several years! Carbon is a very nice ride feel, not just weight savings, but the price is it’s own animal indeed! Aloha and happy shredding 🙂
That’s so frustrating. I think you should go to alloy. My mate races pro and he cracked 3 yeti SB150. after that he decided to ride alloy and is now rocking a full custom banshee
VanCan oh wow. My mate says that alloy breaks less because it bends rather than cracks. But you are you . And your bike is dope. I hope it gets fixed properly and doesn’t break this time! 😃
It's not just specialized many other bike companies that sell carbon frames get small surface cracks I've always got alloy because you don't have to worry about cracks and an alloy frame won't creep up on you when it fails it either fails or don't carbon fails slowly and will surprise the shit out you when it does fail.
that's not a weird spot i've seen numerous frames come back from being cracked in that spot and not just from specialized. I work at a bike store and we are a specialized dealer. we don't even send back the broken parts or frames they just ask us to send pictures.
I have heard very good things about how they take care of their employees and they are very good to deal with customer service wise. After watching this video. I completely never thought about this issue after I ordered my direct to consumer MB. 🤦♂️. None of is perfect but can't believe I overlooked this huge fact. What happens if my bike breaks. AAAAGGGGG
I can only say that I am very happy with specialized. I have a stumpy evo and would always recommend their bikes to my friends. ' I mean honestly, specialized vs. sworks... we are talking a bout a 1000$ upgrade for free here, eh. What more can you ask for.
Shoulda kept the Capra! Cool they sent you the top spec frame though. Kudos to Specialized for that. I will add though that when my Tues had brake issues, I had new parts by the end of the week and they cut me a check for the bike shop labor. Not sure why you had a bad experience. It wasn't a frame, but overall I was treated incredibly (which is why i bout a Capra from them last year).
Specialized is the best brand I have a p3 dirt jump from 2013 and it's like new .. no cracks at all..!! And I use 60 psi in the tires and a very very stiff fork...
Must be nice! My 2015 Specialized Carbon Enduro had a hole punched in it from the very 1st rock hit. A piece of shale hit under the bottom bracket, near the drain hole. The shop where I bought it told me it would most likely not be covered under warranty, but they would sell me new frame for discount price of $2500. This was an $8000 bike. I paid $450 to have the carbon repaired. Needless to say, I won't be buying another Specialized.
Pretty common spot to crack on alot of bikes mostly when people go into a G out sitting down all the leverage from the seatpost cracks right infront of it... ive seen 6 different branded frames go that way. this could have also been a defect at manafacture causing less force to have the same result.
Looks Nice! That transparent red was wierd, with the right light awesome, but sometimes more brownish. Are you sure that the link is carbon? Here in Germany the SWorks now are delivered with the Aluminium Link after some Problems.
Damn that is why I am worried about buying a carbon bike. Specialized did the right thing. Except changing the color. That's kinda crappy. Keep up the great content.
I have one on order... there are a lot of them around here! So far I have heard of no issues and people seem to love 'em. S-Works frame is also 250g lighter, you get carbon links and an X2 shock instead of the DPX2. I hope the new frame serves you well!
My S-works(16) stumpy Frame cracked. 5th new spec bike in recent years. Spec denied my claim, offered me 25% off new frame. They lost a very loyal customer..
How unfortunate, good thing they took care of ya quick. What do you think of the 2020 Capra base and comp? I’d prefer to have bought a 2019 al but didn’t get to it in time. What are your thoughts on the yari? I want the al frame with the comp components. Really don’t want the comps carbon frame (I get rowdy and bail often). I’m thinking the 2020 base Capra and fitting the charger 2.1 dampers essentially making a lyrik. Will save $700 and avoid the carbon frame all said and done, what do you think?
Carbon cracks its a fact of life. It may be stronger and lighter than alloys but not durable. Is not uncommon for a crack to happen around seat tube either- it's supporting your weight while you sit and grind at the pedals. We see this at the shop more than you might think.
No, it just shows that his particular LBS does things right. I would also argue that they know who he is and gave him an upgrade because it’s just good PR for no cost.
It may be anecdotal but I know of three riders with cracked Specialized carbon bikes at the seat tube. None of them were as lucky with warranty. And yes I own a specialized amongst other bikes so I’m not a Specialized hater.
100% better to buy in a shop any problem you have support try that whit direct sales brand you would be months whit out a bike sending mails and talking whit a computer,is only when you need a warranty claim that's when you start thinking why is better to buy a bike in a bike shop
Yup. Payed a hefty premium for my Mach 6, but nice having a face and a name I rely on and would help in that spot. I plan a fair amount of trips, bike parks mixed in with local trails, and if something happens with a Canyon or YT or whoever right before I'm heading out to Sedona or something, I'd be so disappointed. The week long rental would wipe out most of those savings.
Cracked frame aside (I'm glad you got sorted out quickly), wtf kind of weather you got in BC?? 2 feet of snow one day, and presumably a within a week no snow? haha wack. Side note, my Giant Anthem frame failed in the same spot as your here. Difference being my was aluminium so it was a weld that snapped.

Good outcome for you. I hope your LBC and Specialized would treat any old punter without 32k RUclips followers the same way.
My experience with them was iffy. They pulled through at the end but I spent 2 months without a bike. I do think maybe they went faster for him because of who he is.
Speshy fucked up ditching the Xwing////
They knew you were a popular RUclipsr, I bet that's why they sent an S-Works frame. The location of that crack you showed us makes it appear that your seatpost over stressed the area.
They didn’t.
If the Murder Machine gets a new frame is it still the Murder Machine, or does it get a new name?
I hadn’t named the red one. But once it became all black, and murdered out, it became the murder machine.

if Specialized is treating you well stick with them... I've had my fair share of cracked frames and Trek replaced every one
Can You put a dropper post all the way in to the seat tube ?
Wow replaced in under 2 weeks!?! Consider yourself lucky. I broke my Giant Reign in October and it took over 10 weeks to get the crash replacement... at least it's the 2020 frame now :)
Dang!
I've broken frames of most of the top tier premium carbon bike manufacturers... it's how they deal with you that makes the difference. I don't think you could ask much more of a company than to have you a new frame within a week and an upgraded one to boot!
Agreed!
hitting gear jammer!!! i learned to ride on those burnaby mountain trails.
What a drag! I have a friend who's cracked several previous version Enduro frames and I was really hoping that Specialized had improved their quality on this bike with this new iteration. It looks like such a great bike but if their frame quality is still this bad, i'd approach with extreme caution.
Well If it breaks again ill definitely make another video
Awesome looking bike mate👌 I do like the colour of your old bike though. I had the same experience with a 2016 comp carbon Stumpjumper which was 3 years old and it ended up with a crack in it, week and half later I had a new S-works frame, super stoked, glad I went with this brand they really stand by their product, best warranty experience ever! Thanks Specialized👍
What bike wrap did u use? Thanks, awesome vids 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That’s pretty cool. I’ve heard horror stories from people dealing with specialized in the past. Glad to hear they care about customer service. I’m still gonna opt for the Canfield balance but if that wasn’t an option I’d def be looking at an enduro.
Specialized is no beuno 👎 they attack other brands, bike shops
I am currently looking to buy a bike, mind made up I'm getting Alum, I'm getting used so I can't depend on the same cust service you got.
1000750 Alum frames crack too my man
Trevor Bavarskas yes they do for sure, I was just surprised at how quick it happened. Only speaking from my experience which is old school technology the alum frames cracked through time from hard riding and would more likely dent if you hit a rock. That being said I would totally take a carbon frame if the price was right since I’m not riding at the level I once did and frame damage would probably be from hitting a rock. Aloha
Damn right, these plastic bikes are over rated and over priced..alloy for the win
@@martincantwell2557 Alloy fails more easily than carbon and is much harder to repair.
1000750 I think you’re spot on about that, it’s true the only cracks I’ve seen on alum frames are from hard riding over the course of several years! Carbon is a very nice ride feel, not just weight savings, but the price is it’s own animal indeed! Aloha and happy shredding 🙂
My stumpjumper rearhub broke and specialized upgraded it at no cost. Bike was at lbs for 10 days only.
Cool story. Amazed that ... the snow was gone by the last of the story. Had been so much when in basement. Bike: nice upgrade by Spec.
That’s so frustrating. I think you should go to alloy.
My mate races pro and he cracked 3 yeti SB150. after that he decided to ride alloy and is now rocking a full custom banshee
I’ve cracked more alloy bikes
VanCan oh wow. My mate says that alloy breaks less because it bends rather than cracks. But you are you . And your bike is dope. I hope it gets fixed properly and doesn’t break this time! 😃
Turned out ok by the sounds of it! Lot of snow at the beginning of the vid and none by the end...wish it was like that here in Calgary
Wow! I am very surprised!!!! Do you miss the crimson red frame of the expert? I kind of do.
Kind of. But the black is nice too
That’s good. It more important for you to like it than the person watching.
Did you get new front and rear triangle.? Or they just replace the front triangle frame.?
whole new frame
It's not just specialized many other bike companies that sell carbon frames get small surface cracks I've always got alloy because you don't have to worry about cracks and an alloy frame won't creep up on you when it fails it either fails or don't carbon fails slowly and will surprise the shit out you when it does fail.
It seems that Specialized does not stock any non sworks frames. On the road side people are also getting sworks frames as part of warranty claims.
Ohhh free upgrade!!!
yup!
that's not a weird spot i've seen numerous frames come back from being cracked in that spot and not just from specialized. I work at a bike store and we are a specialized dealer. we don't even send back the broken parts or frames they just ask us to send pictures.
People love hating on specialized...
Apparently! I wasn't aware of this until after I got my bike.
michael barrett it’s a lot of bikers, prissy or pissy!
@@VanCan I can't hate Specialized it's my favorite bike brand, then I would say VT and Santa Cruz
I mean honestly, specialized vs. sworks... we are talking a bout a 1000$ upgrade for free here, eh. What more can you ask for.
Glad you got it sorted! Bummer. What kinda wraps do you use/order? Thx
Ride Wrap from Whistler
Omg 😦...the S-WORKS is sick but that "old" red one was so sexy. Glad you're on a brand new bike now 😉
Is it broken yet? Nothing against Specialized, I have three my self. But becouse a lot of new frames have broke on link to mainframe connection.
Thanks for the update Van, but Specialised do seem to have earnt themselves a bad rep for reliability and faults..
Do you think it could be that heat was used to put wrap on?
What's up with the wrapping ... Never done that.
Love what u do so much, hope u and the bike get better
Thanks!
VanCan but I still can’t get over the fact that a well known RUclips actually replied to me
Ahh, I saw you riding a black spec sworks enduro at fromme over the weekend and something didn't seem right. This explains a lot.
So now that you have a 29er enduro, would you still go 27.5 on our Tues? Or would you get a Tues 29 if you were to do it over again?
I'm sticking with 27.5 for the park
Specialized is the best brand I have a p3 dirt jump from 2013 and it's like new .. no cracks at all..!! And I use 60 psi in the tires and a very very stiff fork...
Hopefully that's not indicative of a problem - right at the seat tube joint... That can be a bit of a stressed area.
I'll find out soon!
S-works frame with NOBL wheels....sweeet!
Black is epic! I emailed them to see if I could order a black frame and build a bike up myself but they don't do that. You got lucky!
I have problems with my Enduro S-Works and since 3 weeks no reply. Dealer said he couldn't help.
A new one?
@@VanCan yes, contacted specialized via email riders support.
Dave F. If it was a rock strike that wouldn’t be covered by warranty.
@@anthonytedesco8072 I understand that, but for $8000 it should be!
Dave F. Who would warranty personal damage? What brand? I disagree that damage you cause should be covered. That’s what insurance is for.
Snow disappears over there as fast as it does down here in Seattle :-)
love your channel, and my question is has this bike affected your climbing at all?
I am considering getting this bike.
No I’ve always been a bad climber 😂
Pretty common spot to crack on alot of bikes mostly when people go into a G out sitting down all the leverage from the seatpost cracks right infront of it... ive seen 6 different branded frames go that way. this could have also been a defect at manafacture causing less force to have the same result.
Looks Nice! That transparent red was wierd, with the right light awesome, but sometimes more brownish. Are you sure that the link is carbon? Here in Germany the SWorks now are delivered with the Aluminium Link after some Problems.
Seems like carbon to me
Why are all these carbon frames from everybrand breaking, haven't they got it dialed yet
I’ve still broken more aluminum and steel frames than carbon.
@@VanCan Alright good to know, i just ordered my first carbon bike and its a yt lul
Shit happens! Glad you're safe!
Damn that is why I am worried about buying a carbon bike. Specialized did the right thing. Except changing the color. That's kinda crappy. Keep up the great content.
bruh that frames worth like twice as much i woudnt be complaining
I have one on order... there are a lot of them around here! So far I have heard of no issues and people seem to love 'em. S-Works frame is also 250g lighter, you get carbon links and an X2 shock instead of the DPX2. I hope the new frame serves you well!
Love my AL frame
That’s sad, every time you ride this bike now,you will be looking for cracks
I don’t think you know how to use commas
@@turbot8946 he, does,nt
My S-works(16) stumpy Frame cracked.
5th new spec bike in recent years.
Spec denied my claim, offered me 25% off new frame.
They lost a very loyal customer..
Dang!
Glad everything worked out! How long did it take you to put the ride wrap on?
it took me about 10 minute to drive to the shop and have them do it :p
VanCan LOL! Love it!
You lost your phone riding that bike. Then you cracked the bike. I recommend bubble wrapping yourself on your next ride
If I went with a carbon frame, I'd go with Guerrilla Gravity. Revved Carbon!
Santa cruz lifetime warranty looking real good right about now lol
Specialized had me a new frame in a week 🤷♂️
Big oof, glad your lbs took care of it entirely. This does show me that ordering online can be risky.
What do you wrap the bike with?
where did all the snow go 🤷🏻♂️
100% better to buy in a shop any problem you have support try that whit direct sales brand you would be months whit out a bike sending mails and talking whit a computer,is only when you need a warranty claim that's when you start thinking why is better to buy a bike in a bike shop
The week long rental would wipe out most of those savings.
s-works always looks better than just seeing specialized haha
Normally specialized ship new frame in 2-4 days back to the shop.
I have the exact bike, I have put it through stuff 99% of people don’t ride. It was just a unlucky moment.
That's exactly what we get during winter haha
You should’ve gone to Santa Cruz because Santa Cruz frames don’t break a broken two frames from specialized over the years I’ve never broken the Santa Cruz frames
