SPLATTER HOUSE (1990) Short Horror Action Films

These were some short VHS experiments we did with "splatter effects". I remember being incredibly disappointed the way they looked on camera. Not knowing much about makeup and lighting etc, the camera really showed up all the edges of the makeup which you couldn't really see in real life. The heat of the summer also made the makeup keep falling off which made them look way worse than our practice versions which we did inside where it was cooler. Also the best effect we did (girl getting shot in the head) was unfortunately ruined as she immediately began to laugh when the blood started squirting out of the fake head hole that we put on her. Lol. The makeup was basically ruined at that point so we just took that off and had the blood coming straight out of the tube hidden in her hair instead. If you look closely you can see that her shirt is already drenched in blood from the previous take. This was our first go at editing between two VHS players too instead of editing "in camera" like our previous films,. It was almost as difficult as the players had a 2 second lag when stopping and starting so getting the timing right took practise. The end results are very rough but we learned a lot about what works and what doesn't.
