I love your thoughtsonThursday snippets. I was pondering worship aswell....
    WORSHIP
It's not about the music, not about the songs; but this way of life produces a new sound, a new song in our hearts and in the way we express His Love.... commissioned and activated by Christ alone.
    ‭‭Romans 12:1
[1] Beloved friends, what should be our proper response to God’s marvelous mercies? To surrender yourselves to God to be his sacred, living sacrifices. And live in holiness, experiencing all that delights his heart. For this becomes your genuine expression of worship.

Thank you! As a classical musician and a Christian I used to struggle with playing in orchestras. The Lord showed me that if I intentionally dedicate the music to Him , whether it's Mozart or praise songs it brings Him glory.
Also after He saved me from a deadly domestic violence situation and I was practicing I felt He said, " I love you and didn't want this to stop"
    God is so good❤

Hi, Kim! I was compelled to listen to your song "Insatiable" when you were pondering these things. Beautiful words glorifying our Lord! This is worship. These "talents" are gifts from God, but do we really glorify Him by using these gifts? Let's all cast our crowns, my sisters and brothers, and glorify the Lord with prayer and supplication!🙏🙏🙏🙏😊
Good morning! I awoke with this on my mind: in Corinthians 3:23, Paul teaches us this, which supports Kim's basis of this Thought on Thursday. "Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for man". Let Christ's light shine in you wherever you go, and whatever you do! God bless you and your family, Kim! God bless you and your families, my brothers and sisters in Christ! ❤
And praise Him when He blesses you! 🙏🙏🙏🙏✝️✝️✝️✝️🙏🙏🙏🙏

I think about David ..One after God's own heart ❤️ A true worshiper in the Bible ...And he was also a warrior ,who fought battles and a Shepherd who took care of his fathers sheep....and I think that Worship to God , is not limited to just singing and Praising God in Song ..or leading worship , but I think it is in our attitude towards everything we do in life ..and the transparency of whatever we do and putting and making Him the centre of everything we do . Seeing Jesus , in our every day life , acknowledging Him in everything ...For He loves us❤

I was pondering about this subject last year. I worship and also i do select commercial music projects .The people who are involved with me in commercial music production, they want to know more about what i do and what keeps me going and eventually the conversation somehow reaches around my faith. they say something moved their heart with my voice or my simple guitar playing. conclusion for me, It just leads back to Jesus and i know the lords using me as a vessel. Its also when i know its my time to say, my music is grounded in my faith and thats how i do what i do even, commercially. 95 percent are happy to know that side of me. When i wake up i just say to the lord use me according to his will however ,and whichever way you need..... every second of this day. The more i submit my Will to him, the more interesting ways he opens up for people to ask me about my faith. Sometimes i fall short in explaining properly, sometimes i need more courage but the opportunity happens every single day since January lol . Thanks kim for the video.

Very valuable points, feels like wisdom to me!
But then there are things that make you wonder... I saw Don Potter talking about playing a regular country tour, but with his worship band from Morning Star. They had stuff happen like people raising their hands and being touched by God - in a regular country gig at a casino - and the band had opportunity to tell those people Whose Presence they had felt...
Actually found the video again, here it is, story starts at about 17:40 or so

The way I have viewed this topic is that just as a plumber or pilot or school teacher works out their craft during the week they still need a quiet time to seek Him and to be in church community worshiping Jesus corporately. I think the same is so for a professional musician, singer, artist, photographer etc. It's not this or that, more this and that. At the same time perhaps it is healthy for church staff and professional worshipers to "sit in" as much as possible and worship from the pew. Love the thoughts each week!

You have many good points, thank you for sharing them. I believe worship goes beyond what we do as an act. Those things inevitably become humanistic and secular when we place so much value on them, God-given talent, skill, aptitude, or not. They end up becoming idols and filthy rags. Worship is when you as a spirit being recognize and practice living your life holding dear those values and desires that God holds dear. That is what being made in their image looks like.

Also you see when Solomon says, cast your bread upon the waters and it will return to you.
Taking what you have eaten from the lord, weather in trials, learning or in intamacy you can cast it on the waters, such as the waters of joy, in the form of singing or preaching or obedience or by speaking life.
The waters is like a flood of joy in Jesus or tribulation. It's spiritual but when you sing about what you have been through in joy to the lord you are worshipping in a form of playing on your instrument, which is you and this is edifying to the body of believers who seek to worship him in spirit and in truth

Just a thought as you wrestle with this idea. I grew up in a “traditional” denomination with choir, robes and organ. In my 20s, i started attending a Southern Baptist Church (this was in the mid 90s) and we were making the change from the “traditional” to a “contemporary” style. That change split the Church. Everyone who believed the only way to worship was with a choir, robes and an organ struggled with our movement to contemporary and there was some really nasty things said during this time. My point is the “traditional” style probably woudnt have been welcomed 400 years ago, and although the cultural “styles” change, the core idea of worship never has. As long as doctrinally the music is sound (a lot of contemporary Christian music is not reflective of sound doctrine) then the style becomes irrelevant. Worship has two main goals: (1) elevate God to His proper role in our lives and (2) draw others to Him.

Worship is a action that can be done in singing, also look at Elisha or Elijah when he addresses one of the kings servant who was sent to give word, he said I would not have heard you if I had not known Jehosaphat...shortly after that he said go get me a stringed instrument and play on it.. he set a atmosphere that invoked the spirit of the lord to set mood to give a revelation

My relationship with my Heavenly Father greatly deepened when I left the "church building" due to the so many false doctrines that they teach. We are the church, where 2 or more are gathered, He is there. Worship can't be boxed into music, singing, instruments. True worship is us being obedient to His Word, by the way we live our lives. Making sure that we are living "Set Apart" from the world & and its ways. I don't want to be a part of anything that's not bringing glory to my Savior. Living out His word is true worship & you don't need a church building for that.

    "Hey Kim!
I love this topic!!!!!!! It's a very deep topic...but I like where you're going with this discussion.
Just to elaborate on what you said, in my opinion, there are different ways that English-speaking people can define the English word, ""worship"".
Of course, we can go a lot deeper on this topic by describing the different Hebrew and Greek definitions for ""worship"", but that would be a separate discussion, I think.
Furthermore, the way that Christ-followers worship the God of the Bible here on earth will probably be different from the way Christ-followers will worship God once we get to heaven. For example, the Bible says, in I Corinthians 2:9,
""Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him"" (NKJV).
In other words, its probably pointless for human beings to try to define what worship will look like in heaven, because if we, as finite human beings, could fathom heavenly worship, it would literally blow our human, finite minds.
Therefore, it's probably easier to define worship from an earthly perspective.
So in my opinion, the simplest way to define earthly, biblical worship is ""anything a Christ-follower says or does that glorifies Jesus"". In other words, worship can be singing songs of praise that glorify Jesus...or worship can be when a Christ-follower does something, or performs an action (unrelated to music) that glorifies Jesus.
I also think we can go a lot deeper with this discussion. For example, can a non-Christian worship the God of the Bible? Also, according to the Bible, how do you define idolotry?
Finally, in my opinion, I think due to our sinful, human nature, we all, as sinful, imperfect human beings have a lot in common with the Israelites during their Exodus from Egypt. In other words, we all have a tendency (to varying degrees) to worship something or someone (including ourselves), other than the God of the Bible.
Therefore, the bottom-line, for me, is that I CHOOSE to worship Jesus now, here on earth...not just because the Bible tells us that we should worship Jesus (i.e., the 10 commandments)... but I CHOOSE to worship Jesus now, here on earth, because I love Jesus, and I love spending time with Jesus (both alone, and corporately with other Christ-followers). So for me, here on earth, Worship = Willingly throwing My Talents + My Treasures + My Spiritual Gifts + My Love 4 Jesus, at the feet of Jesus.

I think worship can be done in so many more ways than just using a particular talent or gift for God. I believe Paul encapsulates worship in Romans 12:1-2 and that involves knowing and obeying the word of God. I know a couple of amazing Christian singer/songwriters who fail to worship God as it relates to sexual ethics. They both have compromised in that area. Sometimes worship involves rejection. I believe Peter worshiped God in how he laid down his life in death on a cross. Now that is not too glamorous and something we would not long for but we may face a similar end as society turns more against God.

As a musician myself and a Christian that is a question I ask myself a lot, is my ability to play music to be only done within the church I go to, or is it ‘ok’ to go out into the world and play music, albeit, probably a covers band and use that as a way to witness to the unsaved……, cos there’s Christian rock/metal bands out there like Skillet that play well known festivals with well known secular bands, yet they stand firm on their faith and promote their faith in Jesus

There is a difference between worshipping God and acts of worship. The Bible clearly tells us how we should worship Him. There is a visual description where the Angels worship Him crying out Holy Holy day and night. Telling Him who He is!! We should do the same.

MAYBE we need a full RE-DEFINITION of what we call in English 'worship'... 'worship' elicits all kinds of HISTORY and CULTURE and 'CHURCH FLOWS' issues... the Hebrew has around 20 different words that engagement with GOD... also, the 'secular business world' has clearly grabbed onto 'worship' as a profit-generating mechanism... I've started using 'ADORATION OF GOD', found alot of people respond pretty well to that...

We are called to be salt and light in a lost world. There are unbelievers that are incredibly talented as well. I may use my gift to glorify God in a bar, but I would just ask in what way are salt and light is made known? Is it not through our words and the gospel through which salvation comes? Otherwise, what is the distinction between the believing instrumentalist and the unbelieving instrumentalist?

I've understood that worship is laying your life down for Jesus; eg. giving your live to God.
-Maybe there's a hidden message in psalms 118:8 regarding this.
I'm also thinking that only true worshippers have full access to the Holy of Holies (before the Throne of God).
If that's correct, then Heb 10:19 is also connected to worship, which again connects to "fellowship" (as we all join the Body of Christ - again becoming one with Him and we're back to giving our lives to Him).
-I'm just throwing random things into this, I can not say that I fully understand what true worship is, but I'd definitely like to know and understand the Lord's own teaching about what worship is! 😉

Ive had things going on in my head that ive witnessed. Should people bring in secular songs for worship because it matches the sermon. And would you let let some lead a worship song who has confessed they are gay and struggling with their faith and/or not believing atm

Also...that guy from Chariots of Fire died. He was following church programming and went out side what he's supposed to do and died as a missionary. If only he had known that running WAS enough and this is worship to God, he could have enjoyed a much longer life and brought more glory to God by running. Again, I would question the place you came from that programmed your thinking, and not the girl who loves her simple life of playing in a bar. I bet her music will bless those people....and they need it!

I would submit to you that worship is improperly defined in our generation. We define worship as either singing or doing/giving our talent to God. Also, throwing out crown at the feet of Jesus still isn’t worship, it’s simply part of it.
I think the best way to define it is to go back to when the word was first used in the Bible…..Abraham sacrificing Isaac. So IF there’s no sacrifice, I.e. death or willingness to kill what is most dear, it can’t be considered worship. And throwing our crown, that can be done without death.
Again, it’s part of it, but that alone is not worship. We have cheapened worship so much….just like we cheapen the word love. We throw the label worship around with such carelessness because it justifies what we are doing.
If it doesn’t cost you EVERYTHING…it’s not worship.

John 4:23-24 True worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit & Truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. Truth is a person it is Jesus, You could be using your gift & talents that God gave in a diff spirit than the Sprit of Christ and the knowledge of the truth in who He is, then I do not think that is worship it is Idolatry. What are your thoughts on that?

Here's what I hear from you: if you're doing what you're created to be doing, it's not enough. That's religion, Kim. Because in church they teach you you're never enough. There's so much shame in that environment and it's unnatural. Just enjoy your life and not overthink it, I say. When I play Bach, Mozart, Debussy, it's what I was created for...and it's enough. I don't need to do more. Learn from your kids, let go...and make your own music. that comes from your soul. You're using nomenclature like "corporately" and "throwing crown at feet of Jesus"...but God is not a corporation, is He? In the real world, people don't talk like this. It looks to me like you've escaped and are deprogramming from the culture of church, and getting closer to God. I'm happy for you!

Thanks for the heartfelt response, the thoughts I expressed aren’t meant to judge or say that anyone is not enough. They are simply to ask questions that stir us into deeper connection with Him. My prayer is that we all develop a deeper and clearer understanding of Him and who He created us to be.

@@KimWalkerSmithMusic Thanks for clarifying with a kind response. What I hear from your words and video is that you're asking questions and want to get closer to God. It's brave of you to open up your personal thoughts in a public video. Also, your heart shows humility because asking questions, which can be uncomfortable and scary, leads to a belief system more in line with God (renewing of the mind). My well wishes to you in seeking out the mystery that is our God!
