The way you say “Annnd sub-scribe!” Always gets stuck in my head 😂 also Daeron is Alicent’s son raised away from court, this scene was not to say he doesn’t like her, it’s to say he’s a teenager now so his letters have become less frequent. This scene was to show that her one child, bar Helaena, raised away from the madness of kings and politics is kind. It relieves Alicent to hear this because obviously….Aemond and Aegon are….what they are. She feels immense guilt for how they have turned out despite the responsibility of raising them not being entirely on her shoulders and, again, being a child herself. I think she’s a victim of her circumstances right up until the end of this season when she realises it and tries to free herself, and Helaena who she’s always tried to protect from the same fate as her as much as she can (there’s even some quote where she talks about her mother dying and how she wished someone would have told her it was okay or something. It’s really tragic and shows she never had a mother figure protecting her either). I think there is some forgetfulness for season 1 too with how much she actually contests her father trying to meddle in things and put Aegon on the throne, how much she embraces Rhaenyra as the rightful heir etc. things only ever became this complicated because Viserys decided he wanted a male heir until he didn’t. Rhaenyra and Alicent are victims of the men around them (Otto’s meddling, Daemon’s scheming, Viserys contrariness) the only difference is how they choose to challenge it and Rhaenyra challenges it sooner than Alicent does. But yeah Alicent is not some bitch deserving of her kids hating her and I’ll always contest that. She’s framed as a tragedy by the writers and I think once she gets seen that way by audiences her character makes a lot more sense. I know I keep ranting about this every week but I’m determined to get you to show some sympathy for Alicent because I think the writing her off as some horrid woman like Cersei is completely uncalled for 😢 Got another show rec if you’re looking for one after this: Kaos. It’s a dark comedy modern retelling of Greek/Roman mythology and gods, Jeff Goldblum plays Zeus! It’s great and I really hope it gets a season 2 so trying to recommend it to as many people as I can!
haha Nice! I've always wanted a catchy channel 'thing'! Oh i just took it as, the kid's 16 now so he has OTHER things on his mind other than letters to mom lol and I will 100% agree that they are victims of the Monarchical Patriarchy for SURE! I wish I didn't have these all pre-recorded, because I probably could loosen up on Allicent a bit with your explanations, but she did do right by that son at least- and made 1 (crazy) but kind daughter. I added it to the list, so next time there's a poll it might get a chance!
@@DFQreacts maybe you can bring this perspective into next season 😂 I know you’ve pre-recorded hence why I sort of added the spoiler about how she winds up at the end of this season. She finally frees herself of her metaphorical shackles but unfortunately it’s come too late. I remember there’s a convo in season 1 where Rhaena (I think that’s her name, I get her confused with rhaenyra too but the one who died on her dragon) says something about Alicent essentially not realising she’s in a prison and only making windows for herself inside it. She’s also referred to as “the queen in chains” and her wardrobe is very interesting to note because they often put metal cuffs on her dresses and chains around her torso etc. the one time the chain breaks is in the scene she wields the dagger at Rhaenyra and is essentially having a breakdown about how her duty has shackled her without realising she’s projecting that frustration onto Rhaenyra. And it’s interesting how they both are in blue in that last scene together in the finale as it’s not red or green, it’s a neutral colour and also the colour of their mother’s houses. (Oh also you’re probably right about him having other things on his mind now 😂 I’d say we’ll see Daeron next season as I believe he’s a dragon rider)
@@taylormoon7022 ya I'll try to be more open next season (but its so far away!) I love how you break scenes down where I just see an action, you seem to observe every detail to draw the meaning out of it! And thats interesting! I wonder how they'll get another dragon!
@@DFQreacts oh another detail I forgot to add to this ramble: Rhaenyra and Alicent have matching scars now 👀 definitely two sides of the same coin symbolism going on there. And I believe it’s a dragon he already has, like all the kids got dragons as toddlers etc. even Helaena has one but she doesn’t like riding. So it might be one we’ve yet to see that’s chilling at Oldtown
@@taylormoon7022 oh interesting...I didn't catch that! I'll have to see in today's edit (I'm running REALLY behind, so it may drop tomorrow lol) And I wonder if Halena will switch sides at some point, maybe seeing how Aemond is acting with power and treating their mother, hell even coming up he basically ordered her to ride with him and she's like 'no')
I really love Larys coming in and giving Aegon the worst pep talk ever. Hes absolutely right. I mean, look how much dirt he has on pretty much any rando.
@@DFQreacts I'm so intrigued to see what they do with Larys because while I've read the book they've changed some things DRASTICALLY and it's kinda like a mystery.
I loved that reference!
haha finally one that doesn't make you sad! See, I can be nice...sometimes! lol
