How to remove water spots from PPF (Simple, no need to replace PPF)

  • There is a lot of stigma around whether you can polish a PPF and many detailers will tell you that it's either not possible or they would not recommend it. In my case with my back being against the wall, i had to take a chance. My client's Porsche Cayenne had a PPF on the hood and front bumper and was only 2 years old but he made the mistake of parking it next to water sprinklers during the Summer and through the Fall. From the looks of the damage. We were dealing with very hard water spotting all over the PPF and there was not much i could do. I tried everything and the water spots would not come off the PPF and the client said it looked horrible. So i informed the client that because the paint protection film was already damaged that i would try hand polishing in a small non noticeable area of the film. I used a soft microfiber towel with some 3D One and worked the polish in and the client including myself were blown away. Although i knew what product could possibly do the job (Gyeon PPF Renew and a Finishing pad). Unfortunately i did not have that on hand but the combination of 3D One and a microfiber towel was the perfect idea.

      @666AMOR666 i appreciate it and thanks for watching. For better results and to add a layer of protection use gyeon ppf renew. It's a polish specifically formulated for ppf films. This video was just a show that you can polish ppf

    The problem people dont know is when you polish ppf like that, you remove the ceramic properties that comes with the new high-end film

    • @illusionzauto
      @illusionzauto  5 месяцев назад +1

      @joelkuznetsov2826 while true I would recommend using gyeon ppf renew. That restores those properties. In the case of this video. The ppf was years old and neglected. The owner didn't care about the ceramic properties being compromised. He just wanted the water spots gone

      Or the thin self healing layer that’s present on XPEL

    • @illusionzauto
      @illusionzauto  3 месяца назад

      @Ironpancakemoose maybe if compound were being used on a new xpel wrap but ppf can be polished with a product called gyeon ppf renew. There has not been anything proven that polishing will remove the self healing layer.

    If you have ceramic coating over your ppf and you use this product to get rid of water spots, what protocol would you use to protect the ppf afterwards?

    • @illusionzauto
      @illusionzauto  Год назад +1

      Regular washes with either Gyeon PPF wash or a ceramic car wash soap made for ppf since it's ceramic coated. Really there aren't that many ppf protectant products on the market but the goal is to keep it clean

      @@illusionzauto Cool. Thanks! So, this product shouldn’t affect the ceramic coating of the ppf?

    • @illusionzauto
      @illusionzauto  Год назад +1

      @@dereksilva7876 know if anything they would just enhance the ceramic coating the only way any ceramic coating can be affected is by abrasive such as compounds or polishing

    Thank you for the info. I would say the most shocking part of this is the xpel warranty says; "9. Water spots - water spots are caused by mineral deposits, which if left to dry on the paint protection film may leave a stain, water spots are not covered;" which is frankly ridiculous given this vidoes solution. Xpel should be ashamed of themselves for this exclusion of coverage. Disappointed in xpel, I am. Success always! Dr. D

    • @Ironpancakemoose
      @Ironpancakemoose 3 месяца назад

      Calcification spots aren’t a part of the warranty because when you polish XPEL PPF, you are polishing off the thin self healing layer on the top of the film.

    Thanks for taking the time to post this video. I'm curious, did the spots reappear? I do know water spots tend to come back on paint if you just polish them out. You gotta attack the minerals first then polish. Thanks

    Would this work on satin black wrap? I have some water spots on it and it drives me crazy lmao. I will try this product.

    • @illusionzauto
      @illusionzauto  7 месяцев назад

      No this will not work as satin wrap is not full gloss. If you try this on the satin wrap, You will notice a difference in the finish. My recommendation would be to try optimum mdr. Remember before just applying the product to the surface, It is always recommended to do a very small test spot in a more secluded area. If you get the results you desire then you move forward. Please note that if there are hard water spots on a wrap, That film would need to be replaced.

      @@illusionzauto Got it! Thank you for responding. Yea, doesn't look like hard water spots because some came up with just water. They just seem to come back when it rains or when I wash it through a brushless wash. I will try optimum MDR. I saw in some forums to try white vinegar / distilled water mix in a spray bottle with a microfiber towel.

    That’s crazy how you can treat it like paint

    • @illusionzauto

      Well in the sense that we would have to be much more cautious but there are products on the market where you can actually use a foam finishing pad with Gyeon PPF Renew and put your polisher on speeding setting 1 or 2 and remove water spots.

    Does that remove the wax that’s on the vehicle? And I guess you have to wax it afterwards. Is that right? Thanks.

      @davecotterman623 so this video was just a general demonstration but I would recommend using Gyeon ppf renew. Now while I don't recommend using a polisher on ppf. It can be done with this product in combination with a black finishing pad and a DA polisher on speed setting 2. This product also helps to restore those ceramic properties water repellency
