C'est fou à dire, mais c'est tellement plat avec des chanteuses à voix. On dirait qu'elles ne se donnent pas la peine de bien faire. Écoutez le "Longe Mala" par Philippe Jaroussky, contre-ténor et vous verrez la lumière. Ici, tout est d'une telle platitude : un Vivaldi qui baille.
My problem with Vivaldi is the repetition in his instrumental works….the beginning of the recording, and in places throughout the first aria, sounds exactly like “The Seasons,” which have been so overused and overplayed that I haven’t enjoyed them for years. I’m not crazy about that singer’s voice/technique, either.
I think the very common misunderstanding is to consider all "old" composers as the icons of "ethernal classical music" (I do not tell about personally you. It is just general observation). But in many cases, especially for late Vivaldi, they wrote the music for recreation like our movies. In some sence, Vivaldi's operas were as Marvel movies or Pirates of Carribean Sea. He created athmosphere for galant communication betwen men and women of those time. Therefore, repetitions is one of method to produce more "first night shows". It is valid also for Mozart and Bach with self plagiarism.
You criticize that which you do not understand. If you had health issues like Antonio, were required to compose that many works on a deadline, and all this in order to pay your bills, you would repeat yourself too. It was standard practice for Baroque composers and even as late as early classical until artists began to break free from their roles as court composers or employees of the church. Even within these confines though, Vivaldi's inventiveness is legendary. Moreover, his style is so distinct as to be recognized almost instantly by even a casual listener.
