but with cards of demise or pot, you can't special summon? Isn't that too risky for a pendulum deck?

Naw because you don't really pendulum summon to much in this build, its mostly about getting off those destructive floodgate scales and protecting them

that is a fair point, most of it is normal summoning them I guess
By the way, I have not found an answer: Do you have to tribute 2 in your standby phase, if you have 2 scales?
