Just had my 23 yo craftmen’s re, elasticised and redressed by the rm factory and picked up my second pair in black this time, best investment you’ll ever make in foot wear.
Yes, but if someone needs to see a tag to know that you are wearing RM's then you really don't want them in your life. The people that you need in your life are those that are able to identify a pair of RM's in a large crowd from 100 feet away lol.
I've got 3 pairs of RM's. Without a doubt the most comfortable boot I've ever owned and I like the versatility of their styling. Nothing beats that elastic around the ankle fit. I can wear them all day.
I had a pair years ago that were absolutely superb. I miss them, but replaced them with a pair of Aussie boots made by a guy known as The Bootman. They also are super nice and handmade. My regular daily wear Aussie boots are Redbacks. Not as fancy but still well made with steel toes.
The good thing about RM's is you can get them resoled and basically brought back to factory new no matter how long you've had them, a bit sad you've let an old pair go. On the other hand, Redbacks are my go to workboots too, non-slip steelcaps, comfy as anything else on the market, the only issue is with constant wear I tend to kill the soles in 6-7 months and need a new pair, but that's just me.
Yes an Australian icon indeed. I don’t think there are many wholecut Chelsea boots from other manufacturers. I really like the clean line with no join under the elastic which some expensive alternatives have. I bought chestnut yearling with a leather sole and then put a rubber Topy sole over it and some toe protectors. Had to go down a half size as well. I got measured in an RM Williams shop. Unfortunately I did not buy them when I was in Australia as I was not interested in them at the time. I got a bush hat from the Cairns shop selling the boots but the hat only gets worn in the garden. Despite that the boots bought in the UK seem cheap compared to what they cost nowadays. I use normal polish I don’t bother with makers polish. Very comfortable once they are on. You have to use a shoe horn to get them on though. So maybe not something to wear for air travel.
Best boots ever. I wear these whether I'm at home, mustering, working the yards, ducking off to the shops (2hr drive), or at my day job flying knobs where they need to go. These are the only boots that can handle evey one of those situations and, not only survive where other boots cark it, but look bloody fantastic doing it. I have some pairs that are 20 years or more old and still look great (it's the way the yearling leather wrinkles which makes them keep looking good for years!). Some people look at the price and baulk, but you have to realise that with proper care, or even with no care for that matter, these will last 10 or 20 times as long as cheaper shoes. Where are you going to get a pair of boots this stylish, iconic, durable, practical and oh-so-comfortable for 30 - 60 bucks per year of ownership? Bloody nowhere, that's where.
@@Stridewise Haha, the "products" I use on mine vary from cow shit and dust, to a blend of lanolin and beeswax of my own concoction, to the proper RM Williams leather conditioner. I almost never use actual polish (although I'm just about to receive a pair of burnished leather Craftsmans which I've been told to only use polish on, no conditioner). Obviously the ones I use mustering / branding / drenching etc don't last as long as the ones I wear flying, but as far as a difference in products I use, the lanolin/beeswax mix seems to do as good a job as the RM leather conditioner as far as protecting the leather, with the advantage of being very, VERY waterproof. Having said all that, the pairs which cop a beating in the dust, shit and extra flex and impact of hard work with cows still last me at least 8 to 10 years with just being wiped down and rubbed with my L&BW mix every now and then plus resoled as needed (not very often). Oh, and I NEVER use dubbin. It's evil and will ruin the stitching.
USD $545 for a pair of handmade RM Williams boots is a great buy. My previous pair lasted over 20 years. Just needed new heels, elastic sides and soles every 5 years. That's value for money.
@@wayneneill4994 This is crazy!!! I heard a lot of good feedbacks from my male colleagues. I am going to buy one too. I bought one for my mum but unfortunately, she said she couldn't find a chance to wear them. The weather in her city wasn't cold at all.
As an American these have been on my wishlist for a decade. I finally had the chance to make this happen on my Sydney overnight this weekend. Just like you said, I waited until I could actually go to an R.M. Williams shop in person before investing the money. Shout out to Bondi Junction R.M. Williams store and Olivia for her fantastic customer service! Best of all it was only $416.09 USD if you get them in country and take advantage of the Tourist Refund Scheme (you get the taxes back basically)!
Thanks for he review. I just bought a pair of dynamic flex. They’re supposed to be the same just different soles. I’m from Sydney and managed to pick one up from the RM Williams factory store for $399. Love it so far!
Contacted RM Williams to resole my Stockyard, they declined and informed to just resole it at my local cobbler instead. I replaced the soles with vibram black wedge sole instead.
Perfect with suits or casual. Getting sized is essential! You'll probably end up getting a smaller size than you normally wear. Allways cool when you get on a plane to Australia and you see alot of other people wearing them.
I own a pair of rm Williams classic craftsman boots that I got at a value village about 5 years ago for $15 and they’re still my favorite pair of boots. I condition them whenever they start feeling dry. Pretty frequently, but I don’t really pay heed to the “4 to 6” weeks recommendation, and the leather is still in great condition after all this time.
Haha well mine are pretty well wrinkled so yours look quite a bit fresher! For a long time, I used dr. Martens wonder balsam, which I believe is just a blend of beeswax and lanolin, and that worked pretty well and helped with water resistance, but it made dust stick to them a lot, and left some residue in cooler temperatures. These days I use obenaufs on pretty much all of my shoes, and despite some darkening on some of my shoes, I’m pretty satisfied with that treatment. I also keep my rm’s lightly polished, which probably helps a bit with durability in the wetter conditions in my home town.
My most comfortable boot. Here in Canada they made a different rubber sole on Gardener (thicker with a tread pattern) for ice and snow. Got mine from Bootsonline some years ago. $600 plus tax canadian here, was cheaper back then to order direct. Love your content.
I find there's a bit more room in the Comfort rather than the Classic Craftsman, which is preferable for E fitting feet. They aren't too kind for people with high arches, as my midfoot tends to bulge just a fraction on the toe-side. Going from G to H fixes it slightly. You're spot on about the colour. Infact, if you smear a bit of their Chestnut shoe cream on a piece of white paper there is a lot of purpose going on there.
This boot ticks so many boxes for me. Would a high-quality cobbler be able to re-panel the elastic sides? I’m here in the US, and if I were able to try them on at a retailer here and assure a good fit, my only hesitation would be repairs. I can justify the cost if, with proper care and maintenance, it will last a lifetime. I think it’s a gorgeous boot, and the easy on/off, and extreme comfort make this so appealing for everyday use. I actually enjoy maintaining shoes, so the maintenance isn’t a put off at all. Thanks for another excellent video!
Glad you found the boot! RMW is superb. Yeah I think a good cobbler could re elastic the sides, I have friends who've had them for 20 years and haven't had to though
Just put in an order for my 3rd pair of comfort craftsman’s. I have had my black pair for 11 years, chestnut for 6 and cant wait for my burnished pair in cognac. If you’re on the fence, just do it. You won’t regret it.
I always wanted a pair of these fabulous boots, but couldn’t justify the price @ £350. Eventually I convinced myself that I NEEDED them and went ahead and purchased them. They were perfect in every respect, beautiful fit, soft subtle leather and ready to wear straight out the box, hardly any breaking in required. Unfortunately I developed arthritis in my hands and now pulling the boots on and off is next to impossible, so they’re just sitting in my shoe cabinet 😞.
Just wanted to give some kudos again Nick. I had actually, amazingly, never heard of R.M. Williams prior to seeing this review. This despite being a little bit of a boot dude (I’ve multiple Red Wings, Viberg, Blundstone, English made Dr Martens...). Big oversight on my part! Anyway I just lucked into a pair of barely-worn RM Stockman buckle boots in their burnished leather on EBay for a paltry $300! Easily the best boot bargain I’ve ever found. These things are rad. The quality control and comfort are honestly better than anything I’ve encountered, even Viberg. That said these do feel waaay “daintier” (for lack of a better term) than a Viberg or a Red Wing, but I understand these are essentially dress boots, and I’m willing to bet they’ll prove just as durable with proper care. Anyway, props for the excellent reviews, and definitely agree these are an excellent buy for anyone considering!
B Dub! *SO* glad you found this useful, comments like these are why I got into the game. Big congratulations on finding a pair on eBay, with shoes as high quality as these it makes total sense to shop them second hand becuase if anything you get a head start on the patina. Every Aussie has had the same pair for decades, it really is crazy how long they last. The funny thing with RMs is that they do look daintier given they're made of calfskin but it's really surprisingly durable, and like I say in the video calfskin itself is actually very durable, it just doesn't *look* it. Many Aussies run around muddy farms in these for their whole lives so I think you'll be happy with their performance in crappy weather. That said they work just fine as out-on-the-town nice shoes. Yep, RMs are something special alright, glad I could have spread the gospel to another follower :)
Stridewise. Hello again! Quick question from a U.S. resident, regarding where best to purchase R.M. Williams. As per my previous comments, I got my only pair so far on Ebay, so I'm wondering if you know of any difference between buying on R.M. Williams site (or their brick and mortar stores), versus from the bootsonline.com.au site you referenced. I'm after a pair of Natural Craftsmen which are listed as a special order on both sites. Their is such a significant price difference between the two sites...I'd just like to know if you've any concerns about the cheaper option. They aren't seconds, stolen from the feet of blacked-out frat boys or otherwise sketchy to your knowledge? The bootsonline website appears legit, but...why such a huge discount? Any info/opinion is appreciated. Thanks!
Appreciate your video and honest feedback, I have the same pair but the problem I faced was my little toes used to go red and couldn’t walk in the craftsman boot, the boot is very discomforting to the little toes. Would you recommend me its fix or suggest any ideas to make it comfortable !!
I wanna see a chelsea battle of RM williams VS carmina VS AE. I know they’re all very different brands but all share something; a goodyear welted chelsea around $500 or so and are supposed to be amazing in both design, craftsmanship, and quality.
aussie have lots of underrated quality brands.... nothing can beat a great piece of leather shoes. thanks for the review, im gonna save some money to buy one!
Great review! I own three pairs of the Comfort Turnout. RM Williams makes a great product. I highly recommend them! Be sure to get fitted first. I believe there are stores in NYC, Austin, and LA.
I have the exact same pair both in size and colour! I bought mine online from portphillipshop in Australia for $440, felt kind of guilty buying online after having a RM Williams staff member size me up for 15 minutes but it was too big a difference in price
Andrew Design kinda like saying Mercedes are German if they’re made in China. They charge Aussie made prices for Chinese made products. Support Australian made and based companies like Rossi Boots and Redback Boots. Much better quality anyhow. Blundstone sold out Australia.
Actually, they are made in India and Thailand. Sold out close to 400 local Tasmanians who worked for them. If Rossi and Redback can afford to do it in Australia, they should be supported!
Slight correction, the Aussie Army, or Military in general, didn't get issued RM Williams boots, you have to buy them but at a discounted rate. And in the navy they aren't allowed to be work when wearing ceremonial uniforms in formal parades.
Stridewise It's a toss up between the Turnout (in chestnut) and Gardener (in dark brown). The former is very dressy and in the all leather construction while the latter is a great workboot. I've not tried the signature boots so can't comment on its value for money, but given how good all my RMWs are, I'd hazard they would be. Just my personal observation on RMW sizing and how it translates to US equivalent, a lot depends on the model of shoe itself and the type of toe. For example, the Craftsman has a narrow square toe so an Aussie "F" is closer to a US "C" while the Turnout has a rounder toe so an Aussie "F" is closer to a US "D". Btw, I get my Aussie and U.K. Boots in "F" and US boots in "D" as a general rule. I wish we have greater access to more American brands without the ridiculous markups. The new GST and import duties coming into place after June will make it more prohibitive. Anyway, keep up the good work mate!
Yeah I didn't really get into footwear until I came to New York so I don't know what the scene is like down under. Come for a holiday and just get a ton of boots delivered to a US address :)
@@harnamthandi Why do you need American Brand or any other Brand? I have three pairs RMW and I am sure they will last me forever! If it is not RMW, I don't walk!!!!
I have a pair of these in both Chestnut and black. Had both of mine for ten years now and wear them each about three days a week, both have been resoled twice. What I do to keep them in great condition is use Sapphir products. Dark maroon/dark brown is great for the Chestnut, though it might be a shade darker. After so much use these boots are amazing value, and holding their condition well.
Thanks for the rec re: Saphir products! I'm glad you've been enjoying your shoes, these really are such phenomenal boots. Have you ever tried getting a cobbler to resole them or do you send them back to RM?
Great review. An yes, I too would say that these boots are our national boot. I would say that the G fitting is the most common. (F = Narrow, G being standard and H being wide) I think the UK sizing system is pretty ok to use when buying the Chisel Square Toe.
Love my RM’s. I think that the sizing should be one size smaller as they should be snuggish and the leather will somewhat form to your foot as you wear it.
I’ve got two pairs and just had inners and outer soles for the first time they feel like brand new boot my bolts are15 years old. My blacks ones are just about due new soles inner and outer these are the oil resistant rubber soles they are 10 years old I’m going to purchase a Burnish dress boot to complete 3 pairs they are awesome and well worth the money 💰.
Because of this, and the Rose Anvil review, I snapped up a pair when I saw them (to my surprise) for sale in Denver. They're a little snug across the ball of the foot, and a little loose across the instep (or I probably couldn't have slipped them on). But they feel like they'll mold well, and I didn't have anything black and dressy for an upcoming wedding. Thanks for these fantastic and insightful reviews. The addiction is catching....
Unlike, lets say Alden's, it's not impossible to find these on sale. Bloomies was running a 30% sale on these in December. Online stores like East Dane also occasionally run a sale on some models from 15%-30%. At around $350, it becomes a pretty good value, IMHO. It's a shoe that would last you at least 10 years with a resole or two. It's a classic so won't go out of style.
The store in NYC sometimes does sales if you're on their mailing list, of course you have to put up with all the other marketing emails while you wait for a sale!
You said you got them in a 10.5 is that us size 10.5 or rm Williams size. Because on the site they have us, uk, rmwiilliams, and EU sizizing available? Im like the same size 11 in boots like you which size should I get?
I own multiple pairs - they are superb and have worn them constantly - they have no equal. One set black craftsman have been resoled now three times and over twenty years old. Once you put them on you will not take them off.
Can anyone help me with sizing on these? I find there is a lot of conflicting info and the more I try to figure it out the more unsure I am. The website measuring instructions isnt very helpful either... I am a 10.5 regular US size last I measured anyway. Usually I am anywhere from a 10 to 10.5 in dress shoes/traditional boots and 11 in most athletic shoes. So when they say size down, is that from the Australian size or US size? And how much to size down whole or half size? Like do I need a 9.5, so a US 10.5? Or a 9, so a US 10? Know what I mean? Im so confused haha. Id really like to get it correct the first time and not have to return boots half way across the globe!
I’ve been looking at quite a few of them in the shop. The custom option is interesting, but a three-month wait. And not sure if I need red pull tabs or blue elastics. The only really different option is a dark red. Otherwise of course cangaroo, but they don’t have them in F. As a custom order it’s £470, and that’s too much for me.
Hey Nick: Do you think this is worth the extra $$$ over Thursday Boots' Duke/Chelsea boot? I know you're a big fan of Thursday, too. Big price difference between the two. Worth?
Always enjoy your reviews. Hope to see a review on a crazy high end cordovan boots by carmina, Alden, or AE. Hopefully one of them isnt afraid to do a (partial at least) sponsorship!
Nice boots! I don't think I could get past that yearling leather tho. Just like with calf leather, that is just too morbid for me. I realize it's a by-product that we shouldn't waste, but man.
Please do a review on Rossi boots. They are another brilliantSouth Australian made boot and it would be great to see them become an iconic brand like RM Williams has. RM's for show. Rossi's for work!
Nick, looking for some help please mate!!!!!! I sent the dimensions of my foot to RM and after '2 MONTHS' they replied and advised a UK9H.... which surely can't be right as I am a standard UK8.5 in a Thursday and UK9 in Converse all star. You have converse and I was hoping you could tell me how the fit is compared to your RMs, I know they are totally different but would give me more of an idea on what size to get. Hope you can help mate🙏
@@Stridewise thanks Nick,I am a UK 9 in converse and I managed to try a pair of 8 RM but too snug so they sent a 8.5 which are much more comfortable. Now...... I had to send them back because the leather started to get deep creases after wearing them for 2 miles, when I sent pics over to RM they agreed that they don't look like boots I wore for an hour which has me a little concerned about the quality.
Something that speaks to the quality of Australian boots exists in an example from world war 2 during the Papua New Guinea Campaign. When Japanese soldiers would loot the bodies of fallen Australian Soldiers they would leave their equipment and weapons and choose to only take their boots.
Hi @stridewise , I am looking for a nice fashionable boot that would not be destroyed by snow. I know you live in New York, which is close to Canadian weather. So what would you recommend? I was thinking of the Thursday captain and this shoe looks pretty nice as well. Any recommendations?
I prefer oil tanned leather for really hardy wear, so any Red Wing Heritage boot will work fine, there's also the Thursdays in Rugged and Resilient leather, if you've got the money I'd get White's or Dayton though. They're about $500, but they'll last you a good decade or two. If not yeah go with one of the others!
These are formal boots mate, I wear these in the office all the time in Sydney and they don’t look at all out of place in Martin Place. You’ll always spot a few people wearing them with a suit in the city... or politicians wearing them in Canberra...
Stridewise yeah nah the chestnut pair mate, Goes really well with a grey suit... Give it a go next time they polish up really nicely and because they’re wholecut gives it a nice clean look... The black ones are more politician formal whereas the chestnut ones add a nice bit of contrast to your outfit and goes really well with a matching RM belt... I choose to wear my RMs over a pair of say oxfords or derbys with a suit especially in Winter as they can be just as formal, are more comfortable are much warmer and I don’t need to worry if step in a puddle ... They’re the ultimate pair of boots for any occasion... Truly a classic Aussie Icon
You know what I think it is? In Australia this boot is such a cultural icon that it's legit woven into the fabric of society. If you wear R.M.s at work, Australia is a) a much less formal country than the UK and even US, so Chelseas are more acceptable and more importantly b) R.M.s are so capital-A Australia that everyone just likes to see them worn, they show a pride in your country and an adherence to Australian values. I think in the US where I live and probably elsewhere, it just doesn't have that holy status and coupled with the fact that Australia is generally less formal I think it's just more acceptable to wear to work in oz than here. Which is what I love about Australia.
Stridewise those pull tabs you don’t like are iconic people where them with cuffed jeans and have the pull tabs exposed. (More of a style preference, and not for everyone) . Yes definitely suit friendly black with black suits and I basically wear the chestnut with all other non black suits it’s such a versatile colour.
The benefit is that if you are a lawyer or accountant in Australia, just about every second man of importance is wearing some RMs and they will just randomly start talking about their shoes to you, extolling the virtues of those RMs is almost like a national past time amongst the well heeled.
I ordered the Comfort Craftsmen in black. It took 2 weeks from the day I ordered it to arrive. They are very comfortable on sizing I'm a 13 1/2 D on a bannock and on UK sizing I'm a 12.5 they fit like they were made for me. Great for going through airports easy on and off.
Pretty good review mate, have a pair myself that I wear religiously, they belong to my dad, and unfortunately he couldn't really wear them as he had problems with his foot, so I got them for free :P
Any chance these could fall apart in any way? Every boot or shoe I've ever owned ended up that way. If I paid what these boots cost, I'd want them to last me a life time.
Thanks Nick @stridewise for another great review and Merry Christmas! I’m about to order a pair online (American currently living in Spain where there are no RM Williams stores) and was wondering if you could give a quick tip on sizing as you were correct in their guidance confusing us Americans! I’m usually an 11.5 in sneakers and between 11-11.5 on a Brannock (282mm long), and 10.5 in Red Wings and Trumans so it’s really hard to know if I’d be a 10.5 like you or a 10 - would you recommend going up or down with these? Per RMW I’m smack in between! I’d ask Hugh Jackman but you’re the more famous Australian...Thanks again for taking the time to do these, and P.S. your advice has already manifested in a few great buys for me (Trumans in a Gobi Mohawk and Flint and Tinder’s Waxed Trucker Jacket)!
Have you tried the Thursday Cavalier for size comparison to the R.M. Williams? I went a half size down with the Cavalier and I'm wondering if I should do the same with the R.M. Williams (Yearling)
So I love my R.M. Williams Comfort Craftsman and wear them almost every day. I got mine on 'sale' but even that was stupidly expensive. I am trying to find a cheaper alternative.
I don’t yet have the courage to wear chelsea boots. Not a fan of the chisel toe, but these actually look good considering. More of a round toe with chisel sole.
They actually do a chisel or round toe in many of their shoes. Have a look on their aussie website, lots of different options to choose for the shie you want.
I chose a pair of Thursday Duke in Cognac suede over these in chocolate suede. I like them but £350 was hard to justify over £210 ( VAT and delivery to UK ). Plus I've never seen anyone wearing Thursday Boots over here. You can get R. M. Williams in shops here. I do like them though and I don't have a pair of leather Chelsea boots so.....
These boots are certainly expensive! I can't say I've tried the Thursday Dukes but I've only had good experiences with TBC before and I like the idea of you introducing them to the UK :)
Stridewise Without getting too political the way things are going with all these tit for tat tariffs Thursday Boots will probably be £500 here and R. M. Williams Comfort Craftsman $1000 there 😉
Can't a guy say he likes something without being told he's advertising for them? I've got plenty of boots I don't like haha I just get effusive when I do like em!
Going based off your comparison of the boots to the Thursday, I'm thinking I should get a 7.5. my Thursdays in a size 8 ran slightly larger than I'd like, so I'm thinking a 7.5?
Northstar_004 hard disagree there. I’ve owned both and there’s a huge difference in quality. Most importantly, the rm Williams are Goodyear welted, while blundstone soles are molded on. That means that the soles on the rm’s are less likely to come off, and can be replaced when worn through. They’re also a lot more comfortable than blundstones, use better quality leathers, and I think are quite a bit better looking and more versatile. I love my blundstones too but they’re really an entirely different animal.
Just had my 23 yo craftmen’s re, elasticised and redressed by the rm factory and picked up my second pair in black this time, best investment you’ll ever make in foot wear.
the fact that the tags peek out from your jeans is good as it shows everyone that you have rm's
I shouldn't have complained about that, I could just snip it off if it really bothered me

Only if you buy them for the status of having a pair, rather than their comfort & durability.

Right! And you can get them resoled whenever you want. How do you take care of yours, like what products do you use on the leather?
@@Stridewise Haha, the "products" I use on mine vary from cow shit and dust, to a blend of lanolin and beeswax of my own concoction, to the proper RM Williams leather conditioner.

On my second pair ! The first ones lasted 17 years. A very happy customer. The only boots I can wear straight out of the box
Was just wearing these last night!
Thanks for he review. I just bought a pair of dynamic flex. They’re supposed to be the same just different soles. I’m from Sydney and managed to pick one up from the RM Williams factory store for $399. Love it so far!
Yeah these boots are the bomb, glad you like yours.
Was there a break-in period? I bought the same pair and they're a little snug.
@@philpepe1 yeah cause of the insole it’s a little more snug than usual, but they definitely loosen up and fit well
Contacted RM Williams to resole my Stockyard, they declined and informed to just resole it at my local cobbler instead. I replaced the soles with vibram black wedge sole instead.
Perfect with suits or casual.
Getting sized is essential! You'll probably end up getting a smaller size than you normally wear.
Allways cool when you get on a plane to Australia and you see alot of other people wearing them.
Yeah, they're really part of the fabric of Australia itself.
FIFTEEN BUCKS ARGH DON'T TELL ME THAT I SPENT SO MUCH ON MINE!
What do you use to condition them?
Thanks Troy! That's interesting that it's available in a different sole in Canada, I didn't know that but it makes sense!
They sell them in Aus as well I think they are called the Blaxland rather than the Craftsman
Thanks for the thorough review
I find there's a bit more room in the Comfort rather than the Classic Craftsman, which is preferable for E fitting feet. They aren't too kind for people with high arches, as my midfoot tends to bulge just a fraction on the toe-side. Going from G to H fixes it slightly.
You're spot on about the colour. Infact, if you smear a bit of their Chestnut shoe cream on a piece of white paper there is a lot of purpose going on there.
Yeah people don't talk much about the purpleness. I think it's pretty cool! But you do need to expect it haha.
Are the classic too narrow for people with high arches ?
Oh that sucks! Would shoe horns help?
Stridewise thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a try .
@@beggersudid the shoe horn help?
@beggersu a little late but they make shoe horns to get them on and boot jacks(like for cowbody boots to get them off).
Thanks!
Respect for wearing English Dr Martens and not those crappy Thailand ones
Appreciate your video and honest feedback, I have the same pair but the problem I faced was my little toes used to go red and couldn’t walk in the craftsman boot, the boot is very discomforting to the little toes. Would you recommend me its fix or suggest any ideas to make it comfortable !!
Size up half a size or go with H width
I wanna see a chelsea battle of RM williams VS carmina VS AE. I know they’re all very different brands but all share something; a goodyear welted chelsea around $500 or so and are supposed to be amazing in both design, craftsmanship, and quality.
The simple solution to the tags are tucking it into the boots itself when you wear it. Happy days 👍
yeah or just snipping them off, but people have trouble mutilating such expensive footwear
aussie have lots of underrated quality brands.... nothing can beat a great piece of leather shoes. thanks for the review, im gonna save some money to buy one!
Great! I don't think you'll regret it, they'll last you forever and they're more comfy than a pair of socks :)
Great review! I own three pairs of the Comfort Turnout. RM Williams makes a great product. I highly recommend them! Be sure to get fitted first. I believe there are stores in NYC, Austin, and LA.
Thanks Amish, yeah I got mine fitted in their Soho store in NYC, don't know what I would have done if I had to order online.
4:29 repeatedly grinding the toe off of your boot on concrete stairs... ?
I have the exact same pair both in size and colour! I bought mine online from portphillipshop in Australia for $440, felt kind of guilty buying online after having a RM Williams staff member size me up for 15 minutes but it was too big a difference in price
Haha that's the perpetual problem in the 21st century. Glad you like them! How long have you had them?
I wish you'd cover more Australian boots e.g Blundstones, Redbacks ect.
Lezrleia Blundstones are not Aussie. They are made in China. Redback and Rossi are made in Oz!
Blundstones are still 100% Australian family owned and based in Hobart. Australian owned, with global factories.
Hoping to take delivery of another pair of Rm's soon this time I just had to go for the Premium Salt Water Crocodile version.
Another great review. I've 5 pairs of various RMW boots, love them all. Pairs well with moleskin bone rider or slim jeans.
Damn, five pairs? Which were your favorite? Is the Signature boot really worth the extra?
I am lucky to live in the same city where they are made , they have a factory outlet next to the factory, great deals and easy fix for issues
Great looking boot . They look really comfortable with the soft leather . I like the wrinkle and creased look it gives them character .
Yeah! And it really doesn't get too wrinkled.
@@Stridewise really? I have been wearing mine for about 2 hours and the wrinkles are not what I was expecting for a £380 boot
Could you give a little update on yearling leather? Lots of picture shows yearling wrinkle quite significantly?
Definitely the most comfortable boots I’ve ever owned for sure!
They're the best
Great review. An yes, I too would say that these boots are our national boot. I would say that the G fitting is the most common.
(F = Narrow, G being standard and H being wide)
I think the UK sizing system is pretty ok to use when buying the Chisel Square Toe.
You should try the Julius Marlow Gaucho - if you want a truly comfortable boot
Three pairs! Oldest pair was a 2007 purchase and still walking strong
Thank you for the review.
Love these boots, been about two months since purchasing a pair in Chestnut.
What did you think about the color? I did the burgundy but I imagine some people would be surprised that they're so purple.
@@Stridewise yeah, true! very annoying
You said you got them in a 10.5 is that us size 10.5 or rm Williams size. Because on the site they have us, uk, rmwiilliams, and EU sizizing available? Im like the same size 11 in boots like you which size should I get?
He meant RMW size
I have 3 pairs of this pretty much indestructible boot. Absolutely love them 👍🏽
They're the alpha and omega
Had mine for 3 months. Probably the most comfortable footwear I own. Highly recommended.
Hopefully one of them isnt afraid to do a (partial at least) sponsorship!
can you replace the heel.I found out the bluestone you have to replace heel and sole at the same time. thanks 😎❤️🇨🇦
Awesome video, picked up a pair of comfort craftsman today in Newcastle nsw, they look and feel amazing. Gonna wear them as my everyday shoes
Yeah they're quite versatile, I can see them as everyday shoes. Nice find!
Please review other RM boots like the MACQUIRE, Hallett, Arno Bay and the Yearling please!
Thanks for the recommendations!
Thanks for the review! Would you recommend additional outsole in heel?
Great video. Was there a break-in period? If so, how many wears did it take?
can you wear them with jeans? not sure if i should get black or brown? black looks so elegant?
Nice boots! I don't think I could get past that yearling leather tho. Just like with calf leather, that is just too morbid for me. I realize it's a by-product that we shouldn't waste, but man.
Haha interesting perspective, Jesse!
Yeah. He’s like “for the calf’s first birthday, he gets made into boots.” I couldn’t pay attention after that.
Umm. My fit is
Converse: 11.5
Red Wing: 11
RMW: 10.5
It's a whole size down from my Brannock
@@Stridewise thanks Nick,I am a UK 9 in converse and I managed to try a pair of 8 RM but too snug so they sent a 8.5 which are much more comfortable.
Now...... I had to send them back because the leather started to get deep creases after wearing them for 2 miles, when I sent pics over to RM they agreed that they don't look like boots I wore for an hour which has me a little concerned about the quality.
You should get the RM Williams Rickaby. Great work as always.
Something that speaks to the quality of Australian boots exists in an example from world war 2 during the Papua New Guinea Campaign. When Japanese soldiers would loot the bodies of fallen Australian Soldiers they would leave their equipment and weapons and choose to only take their boots.
Great video. Will the boots stretch out at all after a little use?
Thanks.
Yeah they'll stretch a lil. Glad you liked the video, Hugh!
The 10 seemed a little big. The 9 fit well but the brand new 9s from the box are a little snug. Thanks mate.
Good luck!
First shown video only 3 months ago. Already 1.1k subs plus me. Fantastic work sir. Very crisp video.
Thanks so much for your support, Andric! Glad you like the video, I thought people would get mad at it not being 4k quality hehe
Apparently the price has gone down as of 2022. £375 in the UK, $495 in the States. That’s good news!
Hi im a us 9.5 on Adidas nikes etc etc so you know which size should i order? As i dont hace a store near me
Which rwm size did you choose? Does it fit?
What kind of pants do you buy? Sorry if that's a weird question but I've been having quite a time trying to find a decent brand.
These are the commute pants from Rhone. Look like khakis, stretch like sweatpants! The navy looks better than the grey I wore here.
Stridewise Thanks!
How are these compare to the Carmina? And which one you like better?
These are formal boots mate, I wear these in the office all the time in Sydney and they don’t look at all out of place in Martin Place. You’ll always spot a few people wearing them with a suit in the city... or politicians wearing them in Canberra...
The brown pair? With a suit? Brown Chelseas with a boot? I don't know, I'm not into it haha. The black ones I can see with a suit.
Yes you see them every day in Martin Place
Stridewise those pull tabs you don’t like are iconic people where them with cuffed jeans and have the pull tabs exposed. (More of a style preference, and not for everyone) . Yes definitely suit friendly black with black suits and I basically wear the chestnut with all other non black suits it’s such a versatile colour.
The benefit is that if you are a lawyer or accountant in Australia, just about every second man of importance is wearing some RMs and they will just randomly start talking about their shoes to you, extolling the virtues of those RMs is almost like a national past time amongst the well heeled.
fully agree
I ordered the Comfort Craftsmen in black. It took 2 weeks from the day I ordered it to arrive. They are very comfortable on sizing I'm a 13 1/2 D on a bannock and on UK sizing I'm a 12.5 they fit like they were made for me. Great for going through airports easy on and off.
I forgot to add they do 1/2 sizes.
Pretty good review mate, have a pair myself that I wear religiously, they belong to my dad, and unfortunately he couldn't really wear them as he had problems with his foot, so I got them for free :P
Lucky man! Yeah these are some of the few boots that can legit be heirloom pieces, like watches. Take care of that leather, Rob!
Can you review some Rossi boots, they are Australian made!
RM's for going out. Rossi's for work! Two simple rules for a happy and fulfilling life :)
Any chance these could fall apart in any way? Every boot or shoe I've ever owned ended up that way. If I paid what these boots cost, I'd want them to last me a life time.
Excuse my ignorance but what American stores carry the R.M Williams brand?
What size unit did you mention in the video? US or UK?
They are pretty cheap given that I bought mine in 2004 and still enjoy them.
What do you use to take care of them? and do you still own them?
@@anteros3584 yup still have them. Use Saphir cream wax on them which is a perfect match for chestnut RMs
@@gplusgplus2286 Thanks, I am thinking about buying some, seems like you would recommend?
I’d ask Hugh Jackman but you’re the more famous Australian...Thanks again for taking the time to do these, and P.S. your advice has already manifested in a few great buys for me (Trumans in a Gobi Mohawk and Flint and Tinder’s Waxed Trucker Jacket)!
are the Tambo any different than these besides the width?
What do you think of the RM Urban Turnouts @Stridewise ?
When you say you are usually between 11.5 and 12 is that in dress shoes or sneakers? I tend to find that they differ.
I mean on an actual Brannock device, like the official way to measure feet. Sneakers I'm usually 12, true to size boots usually 11.5.
Hi can you also review Mongrel Brown Riding Boot ...!
T he leather sole boot is really nice, but the wet weather will destroy the front of the sole within weeks. Get them oversoled
Hey if you've already got a pair, why are you looking for an alternative?
Different colors basically.@@Stridewise
@@Stridewise I may have found one. Have you had any experience with Baxter boots? The Goulburn looks great.
I don’t yet have the courage to wear chelsea boots. Not a fan of the chisel toe, but these actually look good considering. More of a round toe with chisel sole.
Yeah they're the least chisel of the chisel toe shoes and importantly the upper is round so no one really notices it.
They actually do a chisel or round toe in many of their shoes. Have a look on their aussie website, lots of different options to choose for the shie you want.
they do a round toe variant, but it has a slightly bulkier silhouette.
Do it! It is the only style I have worn for about the last 25 years. I don't have time to waste on laces lol
M. Williams Comfort Craftsman $1000 there 😉
Haha it's a fire sale!
How do the elastic sides hold up on these? I had some Blundstones about ten years ago and in the end they were in pretty bad shape.
They're great, no complaints. It's an extraordinarily well made shoe.
Interesting add for RM Williams boots... No idea why this was recommended for me though...
Can't a guy say he likes something without being told he's advertising for them? I've got plenty of boots I don't like haha I just get effusive when I do like em!
Hey Nick, how have the boots held up over the last year? Care to post a review video/photos? Cheers!
What size is shown on your bench and on the model with grey pants. hard to gauge the visual without a size. Thanks.
these are 10.5, the Australian size. So my true size in American size is 11.5.
G'day Nick. What do you think of the Sydney boot?
Definitely should do more Chelsea boot information maybe a buyers guide or more reviews
Going based off your comparison of the boots to the Thursday, I'm thinking I should get a 7.5. my Thursdays in a size 8 ran slightly larger than I'd like, so I'm thinking a 7.5?
Mmm if 8 was larger than you wanted and you think you're really a 7.5 in Thursday then you should get 7 in RM
When ya gonna do a Blundstone review?
its just as good as well, RM williams in my opinion is overrated.
Blundstones look like if R.M Williams made a kids shoe.
@MrKayaker69 Now made in China but the same price as before. Won't buy them again.
Any other Chelsea's reviews coming to compare with these? Common Projects come to mind as some of the most popular although very different in style
I've got Wolf and Shepherd coming up!
Hey mate, do you have any recommendations for shoe trees for these? I have a pair about 3mo old and the creasing is out of control...
Honestly I just get pretty basic ones in bulk from wood-n-stuff.com.
If you're in Australia, Trimly do a nice Chelsea Boot tree that I use for mine.
