I like how his character is just so irredeemable. Usually, in a story like this, the big bad guy has some cliche redemption arc at some point. Goldilocks kind of had that plot point already with the realization of who her family really is. They could have easily overdone it by having Jack's wish be for something good after some change of heart at the very end, like wishing to save the baker's dozen. But no, he's this rare character with a surprisingly good balance of goofy design and coldheartedness.
I like the fact that the movie itself had three different types of villains. You had the sympathetic one with Goldilocks and the three bears, the pure evil one in the form of Jack horner, and then you have the force of nature which is Death, and the fact that DreamWorks had Three villains without making the movie feel crowded is simply magnificent. At least in my opinion.
His ending was pretty necessary to show that if you don't appreciate what you have in your life you are always meant to be doomed - which was the movie's entire lesson, that Puss and others had to learn by the end (he also never cared about life just as Jack Horner, which is represented by his careless attitude towards death).

He is a badass villain, specially with the collecting of magical stuff we can actually recognize. Him getting out of the literal Mary Poppins bag (the umbrella pattern is an unmistakable reference) excalibur with the rock still in it was one of the most hilarious little things i loved about this character

Unironically I think this character should present a template to writers on how to write this particular type of villain. It’s nice to have sympathetic villains who challenge us to avoid “othering” those who are socially ostracized. But sometimes we need villains like Jack Horner who are extremely privileged and just simply crave more power.

I like that he never expressed that he loved being evil. He just loved winning and getting what he wanted and could not care any less about who or what got in his way. They’d be dead and he’d get what he wanted. I like that because that’s probably the closest you can get to true villains. Someone who just wants what they want and cares not at all for the sanctity of life
