- The CB500X has been a great companion in my Adventures but sadly it is now time to move onto to something a little bigger and more dirt capable. So let me tell you about my adventures, upgrades, modifications of have done on the might CB500x and a glimpse into the next chapter of Through the Valley Adventures.
Started 8 years ago on a CB500X. 7 bikes and a few accidents later, the last a 1200cc Aprilia Caponord Rally, brilliant bike, I’m back to the latest CB500X. It’s a big improvement on the earlier model and I don’t miss all that weight one bit. Also love the lack of of mods which allows you to just add what you want. I ride it with so much more confidence. It’s nice to get a new bike but it’s a bit of a con to believe you need something bigger heavier and with all the bells and whistles.
I went from a 17 cb500x to an Africa twin . Two years with that made me realise the cb500x was the only bike you need . I’ve had a 2020 for the past 3 years and won’t be getting rid of it any time soon. When I do it will be for an nx 500 . I’ve just last week put a set of mitas e07 tyres on it and it’s opened up a whole new degree of riding to me . The only downside is that it’s no that great at highways. But in the uk you don’t need to use motorways unless you’re in a hurry.
The CB is such a great bike! But right now I am loving the T7!!
A mate of mine sold his BMW1200GS and is happy with the 2023 Honda CB500X as he is a short arse and is hitting 68. Smaller, better fuel economy and lighter.
Cheers. I enjoyed the video. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and plans. I went from 7 motorcycles in the garage to one replacement, the 2020 CB500X with Rally Raid Level 2. It was a perfect transition for me and a money saver. I sold a 2007 Ducati S4Rs (best Monster ever), 2013 Ducati Multistrada 1200GT, 2014 Ducati 899 Panigale, 2000 SV650 track bike, plus a couple others.
I love the CB500X and have learned to accept 50HP. Been on lots of solo adventures with it where it has excelled and some long trips (9000+ km). The thing is I am 67, 5’ 8”, and retired which is partially why it has been such a great fit. I contemplated the DR650, T7, and KTM 790 at the same time. Every now and then I have a bit of envy but still come back to the 500X. I have 40,000 km on it in three years (Canada - May to Oct riding). The times the bike does not work very well for me is when I ride in the backcountry with others on the CRF 450 and Husky 450, both about 185 lbs lighter and lots more ground clearance and suspension.
I think you certainly made a good choice with the 500X and the pictures told a great story. I am envious of you in the position of selecting your new ride and agree finding a used bike that was looked after and low km is ideal.
Thanks again for sharing your journey here.
Yeah the CB500x is a surprising bike! Thanks for your comments and appreciate it! I will have a video soon revealing the new (to me) bike!!
I would suggest you consider something LIGHTER like a Suzuki DR650 or a DRZ400. They will allow you to do a lot more exploring when the roads/trails gets challenging :). A bike that weighs more than the 500X is going to be a challenge to ride off road on anything but a "good" dirt road. In addition to the DR/DRZ, a Honda CRF300L Rally is the lightest bike produced that comes with a frame mounted windscreen and you could take it just about anywhere as well as cruise on the highway at 70-75 mph.
Thanks for the feedback… but my choice in bike might surprise you… new vid coming soon!!
Had both and have retained my BMW F800GS as my only bike. Why, it's OK at most things and has a full chassis for camping and sometimes a passenger.
Great little video mate it love it! I too maybe leaving the CB 500 X club very shortly!
What’s on the cards!?
Hey, great video & channel, pushed the sub&bell button :),
I'm very interested in the shorter screen for my cb500x. Can you tell the brand, and where did you get it from?
Thanks mate! Your a champ!! It was a WRS screen. I got it from mototrack.com.au/wrs-windscreens.html
Can I come solo camping? Been meaning to get out on my own again too
Sure is time for a joint solo camp 😂

@@demdrys which rack? I show two different ones in the video?
Where did you get and what brand is your bash plate?
Hey mate, I got the bash plate etc from Adventure Moto. The brand is Outback Motortek.
That thing looks hotter than microwaved jam

Honda 500 NX or Cfmoto 450 MT!
Do the crash bars vibrate?
Never had an issue!
