Great model year comparisons. Your CB500X reviews definitely added to my decision to purchase my 2021 back when it was released. Of course I wish I had the updated 2022 features, but I'm still very pleased with mine. Going on 6k trouble free casual hardtop miles.

Scored myself a brand new 2023 in gunmetal black, 4,800km done in the first month and very happy with it. Did and doing some aftermarket additions/mods which compliment the bike nicely. For Australian highways, back roads (bitumen or gravel), forestry tracks and twin track it pushes along nicely - especially if you apply some good off-road riding technique. Single track is okay, though carefully paced. Even the OEM tyres are okay. Seating is good for racking up miles. The OEM muffler is crap, but slip on replacements are easily avail. The dash is okay, adequate - not flash. I wouldn’t load this bike up with too many crash bars though, and generally be weight aware. Fuel economy is really good, until you really start to push the bike. A bash plate is a really good addition as are new foot pegs.

Thanks for the analysis, well done. I have a 2019 I bought new and just love the thing. I added Honda light bar with brilliant LED's, Luggage rack, heated grips, hand guards, 12v socket, R&G. radiator guard and SW motec large foot pegs. My only complaint is not quite enough front suspension damping but I may add gold valves and better springs for remedy. Best bike in the world for back-road travel imho.

i think if some-one had in mind a long distance run choosing a 019 plate bike onwards would be the way to go. sure you can do it on the earlier models too with no issues but from 019 onwards with the upgrades it would make it even more fun.
nice lot of mods you've added to the beast too. well done!

Hello Warro, I have recently bought a 2021 CB500X identical to the one you bought. Had 22,000K on it and now has 27,000 after 3 months.
It is a brilliant bike and I just found that it is less top heavy and quicker in the steering than my Suzuki VStrom 650XT that I recently sold.
I have not noticed any slow speed fuelling issues that you and other testers have mentioned - very smooth like the VStrom.
Would rate the suspension as good as the VStrom suspension at least, but found that by raising the pre-load on the rear suspension by one click it made a significant difference to the ride (for the better) compared to the Standard settings. Have replaced the very ordinary standard screen with a Puig Touring screen which is great. After research would not recommend the Givi touring screen as it is just too big and acts like a sail.
Honda is bringing out the latest re-incarnation of this model - the NX500 with colour TFT dash (big improvement), traction control, switchable ABS etc - should be here this year. Know doubt you know about this so might be on your buying list! Look forward to your review on this one.
Do you still have your Vespa GT 300?
Keep up the entertaining reviews. Cheers, Jon

still have all my bikes and seriously thinking of buying a zero electric
its been a while since ive had those bikes but i know the fueling was better on the 2022 model but all 4 units i owned did have bar vibration.
a tester to me means some-one whu cant buy the bike so rides it and tells stories-some true others not so...lol
in my case ive actually bought all 70 new bikes ive tryed out.
back to the cb500x who knows there maybe you may have bought a late 021 running 022 fueling. quite possible i suppose.
on the other hand i know a guy with a 021 and he too commented on my fueling was spot on so either way compared to very bad fueling on a drf300l or a classic 500

@@ridewithwarro Thanks Warro, you made the comment on your 22 model that if you were only able to have one bike (heaven forbid)
then the CB500X could be it. I totally agree with that - it feels and sounds (with that popping and burbling from the exhaust) just right and very hard to fault - and a bit like you I have had a lot of bikes of all capacities over 51 years. I regret that I overlooked it for so long - but on a trip fully laden to the Ruptured Budgie Rally at Mingoola NSW it proved a cracker and I had good overtaking power on the New England Highway. I'm 6'2" 245 pounds though. Do you think I might be shrimped on this bike? Been holding out for the Transalp and resisting the urge to go all in on a AT DCT... I have a new 2022 model. Very smooth over ruts and potholes. Annoying vibration thru handlebars above 5k rpm spoils the ride on this bike. Last bike was VFR800 so miss zoom factor 4 overtaking but quite adequate if u use car level speed judgement. Much softer ride, fantastic handling on tight twisty roads, just falls into the bends with fuel usage 3.3 to 3.4 lts per 100km. Changing to 16tooth front sprocket to get rpm down to 4500 at 100kph and reduce that harsh buzz. Honda should have addressed that by now.

easy choice -if you like gears and shifting -go for the 500x plus can do a bit of dirt too. if you like more luggage area like under seat storage and twist and go ride experience go the xmax 300.
500 x has way more power on tap and both bikes weigh in pretty close.
xmax weight is down low and doesnt feel heavy to move about.
ride quaslity is better on the 500x due to the bigger wheels.
around town riding thye xmax would be the best choice and a grocery getter.

Hey Warro, long time no see. I'm looking at this bike now and also the Suzuki V-strom 650. Right now I have a 2021 Moto Guzzi V7 Stone Centenario in the garage, 2022 Kawasaki Versys X 300, still have the 2018 Vespa GTS300 Touring and 2021 Honda Monkey. Going to sell the Vespa and get either this one or the Suzuki. I sold the CT125 and the Himalayan both with 1500 miles on them. The CT went to Poland. And I sold the XT250. 63 bikes total now, heading to 64! LOL

i couldnt really fault this cb500x on ride alone and the only think i could say its got a bit of bar vibration but apart from that its pretty good.
then again the ct125 honda had a bit of bar vibe too. so its a bit up on that but not by much.
      nothing like a 500 enfield-those are serius vibrators...lol
im im 64 at the moment and have a suzuki vstom 250 sx arriving in roughly 2 weeks.
      should be interesting i thnk
      ride on!

@@ridewithwarro I have not heard anyone else complain about vibration on the CB500X, but I know you are very tuned in to vibration so it's always good to hear your opinion. Comparing the V-strom 650 with this Honda I can say I like the smoother engine of the 90 degree 650 and I like the center stand, the outside air temp gauge (like my Himalayan had, although it was terribly inaccurate until you relocated the sensor, and my Moto Guzzu has one...I put one on my Versys X 300), and the mechanical tach, and the LCD dash is much easier to read than the reverse LCD on the CBX (everyone complains about how hard it is to see at times and I agree. My Monkey has the same thing and our CT125 was terrible so I replaced the dash on that one). The V-strom also has a more comfortable saddle and with the extra comfort and bigger engine it is an all day highway cruiser, and most of my riding is on the highway (as it is for 90% of the adventure bike riders, just like everyone buys 4 wheel drive jeeps and other vehicles and then never take them off road). Both bikes are a nightmare to check the valves on, but the V-strom has a reputation of NEVER needing the valves adjusted so it's recommended by most riders to forget even checking them. A friend of mine got his valves checked at 15,000 on his Kawasaki Concours and it cost him $1200 just for the labor (they didn't need adjusting). The Moto Guzzi has the easiest valve adjustment because the heads are out in the open and you don't even have to remove the fuel tank. The problem with the V-strom is that it costs about $2000 more here in the US than the Honda. I'm still undecided which bike I'll get. I guess a lot depends on which of my bikes sell so I'll know how much money I have to work with. If I have enough money, I'll get the V-strom, even though I don't like the extra weight. Otherwise I'll get the Honda

@@spydie yeah the trouble is those test riders are very careful what they say so they dont lose money via views/subs etc.
that is the reason i cashed it...bar vibes no other plus i bought the 300l and it was busy in the bars too.
i knew a guy how owned a suzuki 650 and he said it was a great bike and excellent cruiser.
by the way im sure you'll agree on this but i'll ask anyway.
ref to ct125 trail. my thought in stock form its heavily underpowered and highly overpriced...lol they look good but honda is ripping off the buyers big time.
im now waiting for the vston 250 sx to arrive. only $6500 will be interesting to see if its anygood or not so $6500 for the 250 sx or $8000 for the ct125 trail -neither made in japan too so go figure...lol

    • @spydie

@@ridewithwarro I agree with everything. We don't get the V-strom 250 in the US. And the 650 is like $2000 more than the Honda, but it has a center stand and temperature gauge! LOL. That CT125 was a big disappointment mostly because it lacked the 2-speed transfer case that the original ones had. It was a poor highway bike and a worse off-road bike. And yes, just like my Monkey, it's a terribly overpriced bike for the size/power. I sold my Chinese Ice Bear (CT70 clone with 125cc engine) today and made a couple hundred dollars on it since I bought in 2020. Now if I could sell my vespa and/or my Moto Guzzi I'd have enough money to get the new Honda CB500X, but I'd probably have to wait until fall to get one. Nobody has one in stock in the US that I can find within 1000 miles of me. The V-strom 650 is much easier to get and lots of used ones, but no used Hondas for sale.

@@ridewithwarro I just read online that the 90 degree V twin on the V-strom is going away this fall. Motorcycle news posted pictures of the new parallel twin V-strom that is set to release this fall at the motorcycles shows. (how can you call it a V-strom if it's not a V engine anymore?). Anyway, they are trying to make a bike that looks like all the other parallel twins on the market. Will it be better or worse? My guess is that it will have more vibration. Maybe I should get one while I still can?

well i have owned both bikes new so heres what i think. the 022 honda still has a bit of bar vibration -then again so did all the other models. thats its only flaw.
if bar vibration is no concern then i'd go a 022 honda cb500x
why pass on the ktm 390 adv.
well its loaded with technology plus ktm hasn't got what one could call a good reliable record like the honda.
      its loaded with electronics.
sure you might be lucky and have no issues or your issues might occur after the warranty expires.
if that happens-nothing will be cheap or as cheap as the honda.
ride both but i think go for the much safer bet -the honda where you can ride it anywhere drama free and more importantly ...get back home!

Smooth, comfortable, reliable, versatile, aesthetically appealing (so many lookers have commented - especially the red 2021 model) and super fuel economy - currently 3.3 km/L taken over a few thousand km's. My only criticism would be the sound - Honda could have made it a 110% with a muffler whose sound better reflected the engine - in the same way as many of the after market mufflers do. 🦘
