I think you guys gave a great overview of the program but didn’t touch on a few points. McCord will not face the same caliber of opponents as he did during his 11-1 campaign at OSU and he’s playing with house money. WAY less pressure to be great. Very experienced Def that is usually ranked amongst the top of the conference, different scheme but better talent suited for the schedule. Size matters. Fran has done a good job bringing in bigger players, something that has hurt SU in the past. Just a few thoughts. Thank guys.

My grandpa played and coached for Syracuse. He played with Larry csonka and my mom says he came over to her house. His name is Paul paolisso

I think anything under 8 wins would be considered a disappointment for Syracuse this season. Their roster looks good on paper and the schedule is favorable. 9-3 or even 10-2 wouldn't shock me.

With a new staff it's natural to be cautious and underestimate the team's 2024 prospects. Didn't Louisville have a new staff and a big infusion of transfers in 2023? Look how they turned out. I think Syracuse and it's softer schedule (no Clemson or Florida St) will have a similar outcome. We'll see for sure after the 4 game home stretch to start the season. Fingers crossed. 😎

I'm from Syracuse but moved to Columbus Ohio 15 years ago. Kyle McCord is a very good quarterback for Kyle McCord is not amazing. He has issues. Strictly a pocket passer. Never runs. Seems to focus on one receiver. Which was usually MH jr.
That said I see eight or nine wins with a soft schedule

Anyone who thinks this team will win 5 or less games should put all their money on that. Not because you’ll win, but because you deserved to be punished for your naivety

Hey Dave, I think your nuts. They have a qb. They have core defensive players. Your analysis is very shallow.

*I have been a Syracuse fan for 50 years but I have less respect for SU now bec. of the way they fired their football coach Dino Babers! One game left in the season and not let letting him finish with dignity is despicable! So was the shock to the team! His final season, he coached the program to the postseason in back-to-back years for the first time as a member of the ACC! I thought the SU president and AD had more class than this! I was wrong!*

Been an SU fan since Coach Mac era. There was a time when allowing a coach to finish the season would be what you do. However, Dino knew going into the season what his benchmark was, so it wasn’t a surprise to him. He was well-compensated, and was offered the chance to say goodbye to the team, and even play out the season, and he turned down both offers. He’s got a new job, so best of luck to him. He just wasn’t getting it done for the Orange, and this is a program that was rapidly running out of time.
In these quickly-changing CFB times, we needed to evolve FAST, or risk killing the program. PAC-12 disintegrated in the blink of an eye - only took a couple months, start-to-finish. FSU is threatening to leave ACC, and the way it’s happening, we are living in a house of cards, ready to tumble as a conference in FSU’s wake. If the ACC fails, and Syracuse has not restored their football program back to glory days level (that you & I remember, but half of CFB fans don’t), we would be cut out of competing. The B10 & SEC are poised to gobble up whatever teams they deem “contenders”, with the B12 taking a few of the next in line. As it stands, none of those conferences want us. (Remember, like it or not, in the new era everything is based on football. Nothing else.) We would either be relegated to a Group of 5 conference, like the American. Or ACC would attempt to rebuild with us, BC, Wake Forest, potentially another 1-2 remaining abandoned misfits, and add in some G5 teams (basically making ACC a G5). Or we go independent, and know we never have a shot at the playoffs. Or (my biggest fear as a hard-core SU fan & alum), they end the football program, and we join the Big East (good for basketball, but at a big cost).
Gloom and doom? It would have been if the University didn’t move when they did. We needed first dibs on a coach that had the heart, passion, recruiting connections, and coaching skills to do our school justice. (Coaching carousel had already begun.) We needed to announce that new coach before both the transfer portal opened and National Signing Day for HS. We needed fans to have a reason to believe in change and start quickly contributing to NIL before those recruiting windows opened. If we hadn’t done all that, we would have had a mass exodus of the talented players we couldn’t afford to lose, lost HS commits, and NEVER in our wildest dreams been flipping 4-5 star guys to wear Orange from the portal. I believe in Coach Fran Brown. That moment at the start of his 1st press conference when Wildhack did a photo with him holding up a 44 jersey with his name on the back - he was visibly moved because as a NJ guy, he KNEW what “44 + Brown” meant. 🧡
He’s building something really special on The Hill. If you love SU football like I do, I think we are in for a fun turnaround, and we’ve waited long enough for this moment. I’m all in! GO ORANGE! 🧡🍊🏈🎯
