    Thanks so much for this! Window popped open during wind gusts from the outer bands of Hurricane Debby (here in FL) and somehow managed to break the crank along with it. Quick run to Home Depot this afternoon and $20 (including tax) and the window is closing like normal again. Still have to go back and tweak a few things but wanted to make sure Debby stayed outside this evening as she leaves the state!

    Thank you Uncle!!! After watching your video I was able to change the crank on my window. Then I realized that it wasn’t the crank causing the issue! It was that the frame was stuck with rust. Uncle, I use WD-40 lithium to loosen up the jalousie's brackets instead of WD-40. Cost a little more but worth it for keeping the brackets lubricated and operating for a longer period of time.

    I just bought a condo with jalousie door, this was very helpful! How about replacing the security screen?

    • @unclejrsdiy
      @unclejrsdiy  Год назад +1

      Uncle does a lot of security screen door installations. I don’t have one scheduled yet , but when I do I’ll post it. In the mean time if you have a question about installation, lmk and I’ll help you the best I can. Best advice I can give tho, is to make sure you use the bolts that comes with the door. That’s why there called security bolts. I hate when installers use standard bolts to install. They just are afraid to use them with the special install tool that comes with it. Aloha and Thank you for your question and viewing my video!

    • @unclejrsdiy

      So sorry for the late reply. When the jalousie does not open all the way, your crank arm is either to short or long. Check the distance when it stops opening and look at the arm and check the end point when it stops when opening. Hope I explained that right. Aloha !

    Aloha Uncle! I need to remove my jalousie crank operator. But the screw that attaches the crank arm to the track (the screw that has a washer) is completely rusted shut. How can I get that screw out without ruining the track?

    • @unclejrsdiy
      @unclejrsdiy  10 месяцев назад

      Hi Kim, that's the one thing that I hate when it happens. First, spray wd40 and let sit for 5 min. Then remove the 4 screws that is holding the crank operator. Grab the crank and wiggle it up and down and watch that screw until you see it move. Now if you did not round out the screw head and still can use a Phillips screwdriver, try and loosen it. But before you do that, you must turn the screw to tighten and then turn the screw driver to loosen. Doing this will free the screw from the rust. Then go the other way to remove. If all else fails, next thing that would work, would be to drill the screw head off. Uncle wish I was there to help you! lmk what happens. Aloha!

    Thanks for the video Uncle! Now I can try fix some of the old windows at home. Question - what spray did you use? And ... do you know where to find glass jalousies to replace broken or cracked ones?

    • @unclejrsdiy
      @unclejrsdiy  4 месяца назад +1

      Hi Lexe! Uncle likes to use WD40 for lubricant and loosen the brackets, but you can use any multipurpose spray lubricant of your choice. Also you can purchase the glass jalousie at any hardware store. Uncle goes to City Mill tho, to buy my jalousie . I am so glad you try to do diy yourself! I’m so proud of you! No get intimidated to fix things. If you have a fixer upper problem, Uncle always here to give you tips ! Much Mahalo for your support! Aloha, Uncle Jr.

    • @unclejrsdiy

      Hi Suzan, check to make sure the crank arm is connected to the body of the crank. If it is, than the crank or operator needs to be replaced. Hope that helps. Thank you so much for viewing my channel. Aloha and good luck !

    Unko, question, is it possible to fix just the crank itself? That crank (the one you twist to open & close the window) came off of the whole mechanism. Is it possible to put it back on or gotta change the whole thing?

    • @unclejrsdiy
      @unclejrsdiy  7 месяцев назад +1

      OMG Uncle sooo sorry for the late reply. I did not see your comment till now. Sorry!
      But yes if that handle comes off the crank body, you need to replace the whole thing. Unless you still have the set screw that's on the handle. Look on the side of the round part of the handle and there should be a small hole,. That is where the set screw should be. Loosen the screw and put it back on the crank body and then tighten the screw. GoodLuck!
