Thank you, Paul. This walkthrough (which occasionally breaks into a brisk and bracing run-through) is what sold me this library. This is my favorite solo strings sample library by far. It is so full of character and so rich with possibilities, and this demo is a delightful taste of what it can do.
I love the dryness and the wildness in some parts. However, the violin and cello were recorded in 2015, and the library feels quite outdated. Is @Spitfire Audio going to update this library, like you did with Solo Strings? It would be great to have more articulations, have a better legato, and have control of the vibrato (depth and speed), and also be able to use no vibrato at all. Also, @Paul, thanks for showing us your work, but a small request: you and Christian obiously like the sound of big halls or reverb. But people buy this library because they want a dry library. I think a big reason why this library was not one of your bestsellers, is because you add so much reverb allmost all the time in every demo. But of course, if you want a lush sound, you won't be bying this library, but Solo Strings, or Chamber Strings, or Sacconi Strings Quartet. These are all recorded in big halls. If you're looking for a dry library, like me and many others, but every demo contains a lot of reverb, then you just think: oh bummer, another library that's not for me. Spitfire has the big orchestra's in big halls well covered, and also the smaller chamber orchestra's in wet and dry rooms, But the dry solo artists are missing. They could play a major role in jazz, pop arrangements and EDM. It would be so good to have a dry recorded library of solo instruments like this, with usable legato and control of vibrato!
These alternatives strings make me think of hans zimmer’s composition for the sequel of Sherlock Holmes! They sound amazing, can’t wait to get these amazing samples!
If they are listening to the crowd - Hoping they will release an update with Performance Patch for the Viola as well. Also improve the current Performance Patch for the Violin & Cello. Individual patches sound good. Just need to connect the notes better & add Viola performance patch. Then it will be a great product
Spitfire, may I ask - do long longs have multiple dynamic layers, which can be crossfaded through? Also, does the legato work in conjunction with long notes? It is possible to bend into the characterful Long (Alternative) notes with legato transitions? I suspect these are perhaps unreasonable expectations, but still a wonderful library!
Hi Benedict, The longs crossfade between two dynamic layers, you can hear how this sounds at 3'11 in the video. The legato transitions are only available in the legato articulations so you cannot have Long (alternative) notes start with a recorded legato transition. You could probably edit the bounced audio to give this effect with a simple crossfade in your DAW however. Thanks Sandy
Kenton Control Freak is no longer available. Could one do basically the same thing with AKAI midimix or apc40? Behringer BCR is no longer available as well...
Because strings are usually located to the left? I think different mic positions will change that left leaning, and of course you can pan it yourself to wherever you want
@@artisticlight you’re saying bass and cello are on the left in situ? seems odd to me. esp for a relatively dry solo strings library. the other mics for violin were also all slightly left. he didn’t demo the other mics for cello and bass.
Spitfire makes excellent libraries, this is not one of them, unfortunately, and the reason for this is the legato articulation. The legato here is truly inferior compared to the rest of their products, to their excuse that is also the case with most of the solo strings libraries out there (with EW Hollywood solo violin and cello being the worst of them all) the rest of the articulations sound nice but, with a couple of exceptions, you can find those in almost any decent solo library out there.
I will be totally honest, I am quite disappointed by the sound of the performance legato of the violin, and to me that is the most important part. Spitfire to me is amazing, but that is just unimpressive :(
I find that to be the case with all strings when 'playing' them using a keyboard (I rarely use a kb to compose) I always have to coax out a more realistic legato and vibrato by editing 'by hand.'
As we are customer, we've paid for great spitfire audio's instruments. but, watching this walkthrough made us keep our wallet, though. Even if Alternative Solo is not cool , I'll always love Spitfire Audio ! :D

Beautiful library, Paul. The instruments are extraordinary.

Except the alternative long articulation, and the bass presence what's the difference with sacconi s library?
Sounds great--especially for the price!
Sound are Great
For anyone disappointed with this offering: Virharmonic’s Bohemian Cello and Violin will probably blow you away.
I second that...

Thank you for help!
What brand is the midi controller with the sliders
Why do I hear wind when you play the violin?
Nico Vettese why do I get a feeling you never played the violin? :) there is no such noise.
No Vibrato control?
wonderful!!!
can you tell what MIDI fader controller you use? I can't make out the URL on the hardware.
Kenton Control Freak, i think

all the instruments sound panned to the left ... just me?
Nathan Carlton yes.
The level meter shows a slight panning towards left.

do you then recommend the spitfire solo strings library? I am currently looking for sounds for smaller ensemble composing and piano/strings duets :)
@@AntonStruzik get csss, they are far superior
The Performance legato does indeed sound rather unconvincing, sadly. The rest is good but...
I think the legato is just a bonus. This library's focus is texture/unpredictability in layering from how I see it.
I will be totally honest, I am quite disappointed by the sound of the performance legato of the violin, and to me that is the most important part. Spitfire to me is amazing, but that is just unimpressive :(
Greedy Rick sacconi s library legato performance sound better indeed
This is why they call you Greedy Rick, isn't it?
Probably because the legato is nothing more than an extra feature to the actual intent of this library.

Horrible sound. Seems recorded in a BOTTLE!
Please stop making these libraries.
Please start making your own libraries that are better.
