    I lived just a few miles away from Stamford, now live in Lincoln. I always think Stamford is like Lincoln on a smaller scale. When you live in places like this, it's amazing how you just take everything for granted.

    I lived in stamford from september 2013 to may 2014. I worked as an Italian language assistant at former queen eleanor school. I was 26 and it was my first time living alone and abroad. I arrived at night by a national express coach from London (!) with my suitcases fallen apart (they were cheap :-) and I stayed for a week at a nice b&b on caserton road. The hosts were lovely, they were an elderly couple who loved italy, then I moved to zebra cottages where I lived with a middle-aged woman called Barbara. It was an unforgettable experience, and everyone was so kind and welcoming to me. I also made a good friend who still I am in contact with. I visited the place again in 2019 before the pandemic and it was as beautiful as before, the park, the river, the buildings and of course the stunning burghley house. Me, An Italian guy from southern Italy, felt ath home. Stamford and England in general will forever hold a special place in my heart, despite Brexit 🙂

      Hi there @gennymonaco, thanks for dropping by to share your experiences of your time in stamford from 2013 - 2014. It sounds like you have many a fond memory of that time. I'm glad your hosts loved italy, and everyone was so kind and welcoming to you. It makes me happy to hear that Stamford and England in general holds a special place in your heart, despite the plain oddness of Brexit!! All the very best to you.

    15:36 If you take this journey and turn to your left here you will see the view from many period film and tv shows. This street is used for productions because it does not have many modern additions and it is easy to hide or temporarily remove the ones that are there while filming takes place.

    Hello my friends - wonderful, wonderful. Gosh, it`s simply ages since I last visited Stamford - some time in the 1970`s for a week with two other post-grad chums -history nuts like myself :)
    It wasn`t pedestrianized back then - and possibly not as clean looking - I jest ( gently ) I vaguely recall that the town was comprehensively destroyed during the War of the Roses, but rebuilt soon after.. St Mary`s Church is marvelous, both inside and out, but I was shocked to see one other ( de consecrated ) church now has shops were the nave would have been - that is so terribly sad, not to mention bordering on historic vandalism !!!!!!!
    Burghley House, ancestral home of the Cecil`s is not so far away, if I remember correctly ??
    Anyway, jolly good my friends, top shelf in every way, as always - thanks ever so much, very well done :)

    • @MrTorleon
      @MrTorleon Год назад +2

      Addendum - I am at great risk of becoming a grumpy old man - so I need to be clear, that Stamford IS a beautiful town, and it`s farmers market has an enviable and well deserved reputation for quality local produce at reasonable prices - as the best country markets should be :)

      @@LivingWalks Thank you my friends - reassuring to know I am not quite at that stage yet !!!!!! An old colleague of mine wrote recently that she was aware that she was becoming a grumpy old woman - sounding just like her grandmother " I don`t know what the worlds coming to !!!!!!!! " ) - so perhaps I am on self alert :)
      Thank you once again !!
