olivia met dan through instagram, she used to post her singing her songs she wrote on instagram and he reached out to her to collaborate this was back in like 2020 while she was still doing HSMTMTS on disney+ and the rest is history

The emotion she put in that live performance of the grudge is wild how she flipped that switch from joking around to sounding like she was going to cry. That song is a masterpiece. So glad you guys are watching and reacting to this concert - I watched it several times and you are reacting similarly to how I did. Love watching it again and listening to your commentary. The thing that struck me the most the first time I watched this was that it was just Olivia and Dan with the piano and guitar and her backup singers. Olivia is SO classy, humble, and polite! She's very appreciative of Dan and the audience! She then put this on RUclips for FREE which shows she really does care about her fans not just making money! Olivia's performance of the Grudge at this concert is her BEST one so far. The only song off GUTS that I've not heard her sing live is Logical. Can't wait for part 2!!

Talking about The Grudge--one thing I noticed is that the chord progression in the chorus doesn't resolve until the first chord of the verse. Thought that was cool.

olivia was the star of a disney plus show (HSMTMTS) at the time in 2020, she already had 2 million followers and would post her original songs all the time, happier (which is on her debut album SOUR) was the original that caught dan’s eye and he reached out to her via insta dms, as per your observation dan was already in the industry and had worked with other stars before. the pair are extremely close and yes he was the producer behind SOUR as well lol they’re a packaged deal, his baby is even featured on the last song of GUTS in the outro .. even tho dan is credited as a co-writer olivia writes like 98% of all of her songs with dan pitching in to help switch out a few words that work better and basically just polish up things, which is something he’s said himself lol overall they’re a matchmade in heaven and we thank God everyday for bring them together 😭🫶🏽
sidenote olivia’s mom was very into rock and so she has grown up liking rock so i would say thats all olivia, she loves that genre lol she’s also very well versed in alot of old school music/artists she even was chosen to pay tribute to carly simon at the rock and roll hall of fame in 2022 and many old school people support and love her and sing her praises, including elvis costello, brandi carlile , sheryl crow (who she has sung with at the blue bird cafe!) and manyy more revered older artists !

Fun fact, The Grudge was allegedly written about Taylor Swift. If you didn’t know, Taylor used to be like Olivia‘s big sister in the industry. Olivia was always a big fan of Taylor‘s songwriting, and at the very beginning of her career they had some Instagram posts together, they would interact on social media and in person, etc., that all changed in May 2021, like she says in the song, when Taylor’s representatives called her and said that Taylor was going to sue if she didn’t add Taylor as a songwriter to two of her songs that Taylor claimed was taken from hers. Taylor claimed that Olivia copied cruel summer and used it in her song déjà vu, and she claimed that she copied New Year’s Day, and used in her song two steps forward one step back. Both from her sour album…. If you listen to the songs, they are a little bit similar, but nothing completely copied at all. However, Taylor insisted that Olivia give up some of her royalties…. So Olivia lost millions. Another thing that happened is it was noticeable that every time Olivia put out a new single after the massive success of drivers license actually beat Taylor’s billboard record, Taylor started to simultaneously put on music every time that Olivia would put on music and she did that all throughout the sour album release and I believe she also do it for vampire…. So all in all, according to Olivia’s own words, it was a rough learning experience, but I’m sure that it was very very hurtful for her and she’s probably very frustrated with Taylor filling intimidated by a 19-year-old. So that is what the grudge is about. Even the lyrics about flowers filled with poison, Taylor sent her flowers when she opened up her very first show in London back when her first album came out. Even the expression you have everything but you still want more, that won’t fit too many people besides another celebrity like Taylor. Very interesting and sad when you look at the lyrics. I hope that Olivia remains the more humble and grateful and genuine celebrity out of the two of them.

@@lngsrp4612 exactly. Why are people acting so naïve? Olivia obviously writes all of her songs very specifically and she has stated this directly multiple times. She writes her songs specifically about her life and what she goes through and while she has a right to keep that private, we also have the right as fans to speculate and, wonder, and seeing the legitimate drama that went down between them and the shadiness of Taylor, it’s without a doubt about Taylor. It perfectly explains falling out of love with an idol.
