If you like Zeppelin you should watch Heart performing "Stairway to Heaven" in front of them at The Kennedy Center Honors
Or you could do almost any Heart song from the 70's. Barracuda, Magic Man, Crazy on You, Tell it Like It Is, Heartless. Just to name a few.
Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath!!! Then, listen to Pantera's version of it!!! You will NOT regret it
Where in sydney,Australia are you I ask because in one spot it is a hour ahead of me and one ywo hours the next day . But look up
(Iron maiden, the Trumper
Run to the Hills

Blood Brothers

War pigs there is a song where the basses opens the song and it's dude more bass I don't remember the song but it's a cool riff.
This is easily one of the greatest live performances in rock history.
Ward's drum performance is easily one of the greatest I've ever seen.
Agreed, easily my favourite live performance by any rock band! But I'm biased because Sabbath will always be my number 1 band. Zeppelins Stairway to heaven at MSG 1973 and Pink Floyds Comfortably numb at pulse 1994 are close followers for me
This shit is NASTY🤘
Agreed!
Don't agree, but it is one of the best drum performances.
Grandfathers of metal, and pioneers of metal.
The sound of cause did get better quality thriughout the years, but that also gives this 70´s music its own vibe, that they do not make anymore in the good way.
Imagine going to a concert in 1970 and it's Black Sabbath opening for Led Zeppelin, idk if it ever happened but that would have been the best concert of the 70s.
Hands down one of the greatest metal songs to ever be! So much more relevant today than back then! Long live Metal! 🤘🤘❤
The 70s era had musicians that had talent and could sing without help from auto tune and this music ist the greatest there will ever be
THE Metal pioneers. As a fellow Brummie I’ve got nothing but love for these guys
I saw them twice in '74. First at California Jam 1 and then a couple weeks later in San Diego. It was fantastic.
Bill Ward and Geezer Butler, two of the best ever.
Late 60s- Mid 70s rock is the ideal for me. They're hard enough, and the rawness is what I like the most.
it's really very simple... there were times when music of this genre was created. They worked on every album, every song, every note. And these were wonderful times from the 30s to the 80s of the last century... The golden age of rock and roll.
Bill Ward is a beast on the drums 🤘
After that show the drum kit filed for a restraining order against Bill 🤣
Black Sabbath are forever the Godfathers of Metal 🤘
Backtrack a few years to 1966 and put on some Blue Cheer.Prog and Heavy for sure.
The 70s…best decade so far. 👊⭐️🥂👍
Welcome to the Godfathers of metal. Ozzy is a legend. Had ticket to see him and Covid hit , everything was cancelled. It was rescheduled but eventually had to be cancelled as Ozzy isn’t well. Try PARANOID another banger .. another great reaction. 😁
The birth of Metal. Album release on my birthday. 🤟🏻🤟🏻🍺
OZZY seen him live at GLASTONBURY years ago. a band i think you would like
THE SENSATIONAL ALEX HARVEY BAND FAITH HEALER...TEENAGE IDOL...a SCOTTISH BAND a cracking band...some Great songs
🎵. my friend 👍
I think one of the best compositions they wrote was Symptom of the Universe... But really all the Ozzy albums and Dio albums are great and I actually like the Ian album a lot too...
I was like 11 when I first heard this song. ❤️😎🇺🇸
What a time 🖤
You couldn't see Geezer much, but you could hear him!!
Ozzy: vocals
Tony Iommi: gtr
Geezer Butler: bass
Badass Bill Ward: drums
Since you like energy.....check out " Inside Lookin out" by Grand Funk Railroad, live in 1969. I saw them in 71. I was 16. changed my life. Rock on.
I started high school in 1968 and graduated college in 1976. Show me a better 8 years for music.
It is criminal how the camera man disrespected Geezer Butler.
The srcond verse has different lyrics from the ones that I'm familiar with. I wonder if this performance was before or after recording the studio varsion?
Black Sabbath 1968-eternity🤘
70's crazy? Yes. Right Bill Ward (drummer) = A seriously skilled Caveman
Cheers!
🍄🌲🍄💥✨🌈
We didn’t get butt hurt at everything. Men were men and women were women. None of this crap we’re seeing today. People had spines!
This is nice to watch/ here but ....
Their Studio recordings are much cleaner sounding. Such as off paranoid.
And the lyrics were changed later as well.
Had the opportunity to see them perform at the black and blue concert.
Molly Hatchet Blue Oyster Cult Black Sabbath
Near the very end of the concert a violent storm happened. We seen them do it again a couple months later for free.
All those bands were high energy.
Give a listen to Blue Oyster Cults
Last days of May
Another band known for high energy was Foghat
Fool for the City
Slow Ride
Honey Hush
Gods
Yes, the 1970's were way better than the world wide gulag of 2023.
You need to listen to Cream 👍band only lasted 2 yrs.. but, had the great Eric Clapton, magic❤
Bill Ward is a drum god
Another 70's band you should look at is Steely Dan. Some suggestions - Deacon Blues, Royal Scam, FM...
Great song in an altered form lyrically as Ozzy goes off. Bill Ward killed his drums hete, they must have owed him money! I agree on video editing in music is often not well done and members of the band are hardly viewed. How hard is it to switch to the camera of the person who is actually soloing? I should have been in film editing, I know I could make better choices that much of what I have seen. I guess we're lucky to have the footage we do have. Next for Sabbath, do their signature self titled song, Black Sabbath. That is square one for this band, you should do the first 6 albums, for me, the best run of albums to start a career next to Led Zrppelin. Pure Gold awaits you. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
saw this 3 times on chemicals
They are the best. Give me their first 5 albums and I'm good with nothing else.
Snowblind is their masterpiece in my opinion. Supernaut may be their catchiest. Both are on VOL 4.
LOL I think Ozzy Osbourne created head banging.
Called him "the vocalist".. lol. That's OZZY! Put some respect on that name. Much love tho
👍👍👍
sevsimo, Geezer Butler (Bassist) gets no love. lol.
Gary Richraft flying turkey trot live REO Speed wagon guitar solo best
Black Sabbath are metal legends, but that hardly says it, that makes them out to be legendary like modern bands, these cats were way outside the scope of modern "pop" music in the 1970's, Heavy Metal as a genre literally did not exist, these cats created it and they were just writing heavy rock music, they didn't have a freaking plan, they just made heavy rock, recorded albums, got paid and did a bunch ( like a whole lot- ) of drugs! Just 4 guys from Birmingham, England, which was (still is?) an industrial shithole, they just didn't want to work in factory's their whole lives, so they started a rock and roll band...all heavy, choppy drops begin here, my friend.
I was 20 when I saw them live in a relatively small venue. I saw the 3 times and it was memorable. The 70s were wild? You have no idea. If you meet a 70+ year old man know that in his day he was rocking with the best. I got to see all of the cool classic bands. Not this kool-ade music concerts you have today. They are mild by comparison.
Black Sabbath invented heavy metal
THAT IS WHAT REAL MUSIC SOUNDS LIKE NOT THIS SHIT NOWADAYS THANK YOU OZZIE AND THE WHOLE BAND AND DRUMMER MAN
AUSSIE, that's a 19-year old OZZY
He was born Dec 3, 1948. This show was in 1970.
The bassist doesn't need to be on camera because you can always find him IN YOUR SOUL.
GEEZER!
GEEZER FUCKING BUTLER
Just by seeing Geezer's fingers moving, you can tell the man is on fire..That is, if the sound of his super fast paced bass isn't obvious.. 😎
There's this one riff that (Geerzer )does in the beginning of the song 🎵 I just don't know the name of it and I'm a black sabbath, ^Ozzy fan.
But look up black sabbath wizard ✨️ 🖤
Indeed
No Makeup. No Masks, No Costumes. No Pyro. No Moving Lights.
sevsimo, just 4 guys and STACKS of MARSHALL AMPS. ✌️
No pyro? The drummer must've been very relieved (the band had a peculiar habit of setting him on fire when he fell asleep, he once ended up in hospital with severe burns).
You left out the DRUGS!!!
There's nothing wrong with having a stage show if the music is good
The music was the show in the way back.
They actually used a 30W Laney Supergroup amplifier, not a Marshall
Bill Ward has to be as good as you will ever see on drums. You can see him playing with the sticks reversed.
>>>You can see him playing with the sticks reversed.>>
@ reasons: As we all know, the stick is fat at one end, and much smaller at the other.
The strike impact with drum-head is increased by hitting with the fat end, at the same time that it decreases the actual impact-pressure on the head.
Hitting the head as hard as he does with the other-end, it's more likely to punch right thru the head.
It's like stabbing a balloon with the eraser end of a pencil vs stabbing it with the sharp end.
you are literally the 2nd person to notice 🙂
I'm a music and musician fan. I'm a novice, though when it comes to trying to understand the technicalities of playing an instrument......THAT SAID, I had front row tickets to an Aerosmith concert Halloween 1987 and at the end of the show Joey Kramer gave out his drum sticks I was able to get one, I know Joey Kramer is not in the upper echelons of the drumming world but I noticed he had the narrower end of the stick taped up for his grip and used the blunt end for playing.
Best praise ever...
He's up there with Bonzo!❤
My only issue with this video is the criminal lack of Geezer on screen. The man is one of the greatest bass players to ever live and seeing how he plays is amazing.
The bass player (Geezer Butler) usually gets left out of the conversation but he’s one of the best and Black Sabbath wouldn’t have existed in the way we recognize it without him.
Someone call the Police. Bill Ward is absolutely murdering those Drums
Can’t go wrong with ANYTHING from the first 6 albums!🤘🤘
Do you not know that the lead singer is Ozzy Osbourne?
Thinking that. Who doesn't know that?...really
Yes, I grew up in the 1960s and 1970s and it was a great time to be alive compared to today. Even with the Vietnam War, social upheaval it was great.
Ozzy Osbourne - vocals
Bill Ward - drums
Terrence "Geezer" Butler - bass
Tony Iommi - guitar (i-O-me)
If you watch Hand Of Doom from this same show, you'll get to see a lot more of the great bassist and lyricist, Geezer Butler. Idk why he wasn't shown more here.
Great reaction to this monumental band!!
I grew up in the '70s, and Black Sabbath was one of my favorite bands (and the Ozzy era is still one of my all-time favorites). There was so much awesome music created during the '70s (I consider it the best era for music), but honestly, when you're living through it, you love it, but don't really appreciate it, because it just seems "normal" at the time. Only in retrospect can you appreciate how lucky you were to experience it while it was happening.
"it just seems "normal" at the time"
Amen to that, my Friend - and we thought it would go on _forever_ ! But - like Gold-backed currency..........
Grew up in the 90's listening to the 70's mostly Sabbath and Randy Rhoads. 🎸
this band was just as awesome live 30 years after this when I got to see them play heh. enjoy this rabbit hole as well as the Ozzy rabbit hole without sabbath.
Although heavy-metal often presents a tough aggressive image, one thing you'll notice is the common theme of anti-war songs. This is one of the classics
Sabbath is responsible for the whole metal genre and set a pretty high bar. Dive in man and you’ll be a huge fan for life!!
The lyrics in this live gig are quite different from what appeared on the studio album. And yes, as a teenager in the 70s, we never knew we had it so good. Once the decade was over, it was pretty much all downhill. Cheers from Armidale, northern NSW.
The bassist is actually killing it on this track. This live version is great, but you should listen/watch the studio version. You won't regret it. All the instruments and the story come through much better.
In my opinion. These dudes are part of the foundation of the rock/metal genre.
They are the godfather of heavy metal 🤙🤘🏼✌🏻
Timeless music, still sounds awesome!! So glad you picked this! 🎶🎶🤩
"Heavy. With swing" - Bill Ward, drum god.
Geezer is one of the best bassist ever... And is basically the one the writes most of the songs
Dude, your reaction is absolutely awesome and it's great to see more and more people are discovering bands like Black Sabbath thanks to RUclips.
Yes the 70’s were bloody brilliant music wise. The bands then had to have real talent& it was hard work, I fancy computers etc
Live performance of “Mr Crowley” with Randy Rhodes guitar work is a great one also
great performance. Check out Fairies Wear Boots from the same concert to see more of Geezer Butler. Been a fan since 1970....the 70's were wild , with the greatest music ever!
Hello again from New England...Now this is proper droppiness..This is when music was music..Just 4 dudes on stage playing real tunes using real instruments no Auto tune no computers just raw performances warts and all 🤘✌️🧐
The 'Faith No More' cover is definately worth a watch if you like this
The Polka Tulk Blues Band and Earth!
Thank the METAL GODS that they changed their name to BLACK SABBATH! ✌️
I heard Tony iomi's guitar for the first time when I was 13 in 1979. And the tone of that guitar changed the way I listen to music And what I listened to, Turned me into a 29 year die, hard Tool fan.
Ozzie, the GODFATHER of METAL.
Black Sabbath was fronted by Ozzie, then Ronnie James Dio.
Check out some DIO! 🤞✌️
To me, THESE GUYS ARE "THE GODFATHERS OF METAL!"
I'm not sure I've seen a better reaction to a song. I can tell how much you enjoyed it. Remember, this was 53 years ago. There weren't many bands who could play this well live.
There's no going back now, down this rabbit hole.
Make sure all your hands and feet are inside the whole time, secure all loose objects and enjoy the ride...
Great reaction.. thanks for keeping it real.
Watching young Ozzy Osbourne perform is always a treat.
I grew up with this. I never thought music would get so lame in the mainstream as now. Concerts were so thrilling. I would levitate after a show.ZEP THE WHO SABBATH THE STONES just to name a few. And they wrote about stuff that was going on in the lives of many. Keep exploring and enjoy my brother. Peace
Welcome TO THE BEST HEAVY METAL BAND OF ALL TIME .. Im 57 yrs old and have been listening to them since i was 14 ENJOY THIS AWESOME RABBIT HOLE YOUR ABOUT TO EXPEREANCE
Definition of GOATS right here.🤘
Love watching Bill beat the sh*t out of that drum kit! Great reaction!🎸🥁🎸🔥
This was a really early performance of this song, so the lyrics are different here than what they would set them to later. They still rhymed 'masses' with 'masses' in the first two lines (I think, let me check... yeah, they did), and I feel weird about that, sure, but the rest of the final version of the lyrics are _so powerful,_ it's easy to not think about it overmuch.
And I was an aware enough kid to kind of remember the last half of the seventies. A crazy enough time, okay, but everything smells _so_ much better these days, believe it or not. Smoking _sucks!_
Each one had a different meaning. It was brilliant, in my opinion. The first "masses" was referring to the large group of people gathering (a mass of people). The 2nd "masses" was referring to a religious ritual of the witches (as in going to mass, like church mass).
Sabbath, Zeppelin, Floyd... I was born in 71 and I don't remember a time when these bands were not part of my life.
Saw Black Sabbath in early 70's in New Orleans! 🔥🔥🔥 The best part about being old (ish) today is to have been young then to be able to witness all this great music live in person! Fantastic era! ✌&❤
This is the greatest live performance ever Black Sabbath at its peak of musical excellence.
Just a pinch of CRISPY to complement the OVERWHELMING CHOPPY CHUNKS!
Yes, the 70s, post Nam, were awesome. Weekly trips to the record store were a must!!
This performance is from 1970, Nam still in full swing.lasting another 3 years for America.
Early 70's was the best time for proper rock....Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple ....... and take a look at Wishbone Ash
ENERGY...Fuck Yeah!
ENERGY!
😎😎
If you're interested, Look up War Pigs, Cal Jam. The bassist is more prominent. And the crowd is 350,000 fu**ing people. 1975. Quite a moment in history.
I think the bassist in Black Sabbath makes a huge contribution to their sound!
You're totally right. Black Sabbath ruled the world till about 1975. Then Ozzy's addictions dismantled them. And the 70's had to end, because that the nature of Rock n' Roll. 😮
Creation and destruction. Punk influence ruled the 80's. Then Nirvana and the Seattle sound, and Metallica, and NWA, Straight outta Compton.
I love Rock n' Roll!
You like live performances? You want the one perfect live performance?
Then react to "Deep Purple - Child in time - live 1970".
A band of excellent musicians, perfect in the studio but even better live, as I always say.
Just to get an idea, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin are considered as the so called "Unholy Trinity of British Hard Rock and Heavy Metal". Deep Purple were in the 70's in the Guinness Book of Records as the loudest live Rock band. Understand? 😉
Just explore their catalog, especially their live album "Made in Japan" from 1973 and then move on to their guitarist's (Ritchie Blackmore) side Project "Rainbow", especially the live album "Rainbow - On Stage" from 1977.
I ensure you they both will be the next rabbit holes ✌️
The 70’s were awesome. You could actually live life. Become smart instead of believing you know how the world and people work, from reading what someone else wrote or said.
You will be hard pressed to find a bad song. Definitely more Sabbath. Ozzy, Tony and Bill Ward…Geezer is great in his own right, but when your in a band with those three, you can easily get overshadowed.
I would suggest some Iron Maiden too. Any. The 1982 version of Hallowed be Thy Name is a good start. Probably requested 1000 times already though. Lol
The guitarist, Tommy Iommi, cut the tips off his middle and ring fingers in a factory accident, at the age of 17..Docs told him he wouldn't play guitar again. I strongly encourage you to read about what he did instead..Great story!..A bit lengthy for here..BS was my very first concert. I was 14. I sat right on the edge of the stage the entire concert about 10 feet from Ozzy. That was 52 yrs. ago. It was a good time..Btw...Yes indeed, the 70's was an extremely wild time!
Nobody had ever heard anything like Black Sabbath's 1st album.
You got to do Tool “push it” 1998 Delaware, it’s the live recording of the track off Salival.
My favorite part about listening to Sabbath is trying to figure out what the FUCK Bill Ward is doing to those drums. A true master
Old Sabbath is amazing... The first whole album is something that should almost be done in one review... At least the whole second side of the album...
You're totally right about the energy in this performance, spot on!
Bill Ward Killin that drum kit 😅
🤔 👀 You noticed you didn’t get to see much of Geezer Butler, kick ass bass player - I think he also doesn’t get enough recognition for his contributions to the ideas and lyrics for their songs. 🤘🏼
Two mics, one for the recording, one for the PA. It's a balancing thing.
