- In order to join a weapon discipline PAHUYUTH students are required to make their own training weapons (always two of them). In this tutorial we show you how to build practice swords for DAB (sword).
Things you need:
2x Wooden sticks (length 90cm, Ø 2,8 cm).
2x Round rubber plates (Ø 0,5 cm, thickness 5 mm) Used for the guard (beginner’s swords). Simple rubber soles for shoes work best here.
1x Masking Tape (width 3 cm).
1x White Duct Tape (width 1,9 cm).
1x Black Duct Tape (width 1,9 cm).
Sandpaper to smoothen edges and surfaces
Pencil and Carpenter's rule
Scissors or knife to cut tape

I like the thai sword (Daab) combat. Ive practice Haidong Gumdo before. Can I train Daab with your manual book?
For safe and proper Daab training we recommend to lay a foundation first, by filling up potentially missing skills from our unified “tutorial phase” (yellow belt). What you would need is
- 30 Exercises (free on our website)
- PQS Class 0 (part of our online training)
- LS-01: Physical Knowledge (15 techniques)
- LS-02: Defense Knowledge (15 techniques)
- LS-03: Safety Knowledge (15 techniques)
- Theoretical knowledge (answers to five questions)
- Carrier’s Worthiness
We recommend to follow steps 1-3 on our trial training page for free and, if you still wish to learn Daab afterwards, proceed with our online training.

Very nice and strong sword for kids....keep it up
Thank you.for this gift.
Thanks can you do one for the shield/mai sawk? I have a basic idea but I would love to see what you do
Thank you for your comment and your interest in shields! In fact we have already shot some footage for a tutorial, but editing will take a while. If you are interested in shield training check out our Ling Lom workouts. Basic shield training is quite similar, but with additional weight on each arm.
Thank you very much, I can't wait to see it.
I need help I don't find the wnglish version of the pahuyuth book
Thank you for reaching out! You won't find the English version of out history book, because it has not been translated yet. 🙏🏻

Me thinking thats arnis sticks..
Or is it?
Are these actually durable? I feel like if you were really going at it, they could break and that would be pretty annoying as these seem tedious to make. Do they break often for you? How long do these normally last?
Bladed weapons usually don't need much force to inflict severe damage to the opponent as long as you aim for the opponent instead of his or her sword. The 1/3 pivot design of the Thai sword also makes it relatively easy to use the force of an attack against the attacker by redirecting the attack instead of blocking. In terms of durability the design shown in this video does its job quite well. They usually last a few years and if they happen to break the tape layers provide safety by hindering splinters to fly around. The tediousness of crafting these training swords is part of our learning concept, since it creates a bond between the student and his or her swords. Hope this helps!
@@Pahuyuth Thanks for the quick reply! Appreciate the info.
Why the books
Where did you get the sticks and what are they called
The wooden sticks are simple round bars from a local hardware store. More on that in this newer tutorial for training staves 👉🏻 ruclips.net/video/tMJI33aaUGQ/видео.html
Can Kali/Escrima sticks be used or wakazashi bokken?
In general we have never been limited to Thai swords alone. Instead we aim on being able to use any type of about arm-length object as a weapon and encourage our students to try and experiment with any type of weapon they can find. This may include Kali / Escrima sticks, Wakizashi Bokken or even umbrellas, walking canes and whatever random object they can come up with. For beginners however we recommend to begin with an inexpensive, self-made training sword as shown in the video above. To get an idea about the pros and cons of different training weapons we recommend to read this blog post. 👉🏻 pahuyuth.com/en/daab/how-much-does-a-thai-sword-weigh/
Does the book include the guide of making the swords?
Yes, the Pahuyuth Compendium contains infographics about making training weapons (knife, shield, sword, staff), checklists for materials needed and of course the techniques, concepts and more for all seven disciplines.

Please note, that this book is a technical handbook for those who already know the basics of Pahuyuth. For beginners we recommend to take a look at our new online training. There you can also find those guides, get everything you need to learn Pahuyuth, Saiyasart and Naturopathy from the bottom up and have 24/7 access to our member exclusive forum, where you can get even more information and advice from our teacher staff and our community.

I use nylon-6 plastic rods that are cheaper, more endurance than wooden rods
Nylon-6 is a good choice when it comes to safety, price and durability, but they are usually a bit to light and forgiving on the wrists. We have made a weight comparison video here ruclips.net/video/KBxli1d8OU0/видео.html and a weight check of an actual Thai sword here ruclips.net/video/tbnfgRYSGvg/видео.html
Ok but when will I see the translated version
What type/brand of tape did you use? It doesn't look like normal duct tape
We used Tesa adhesive fabric tape, which we bought at our local hardware store. It is resistant, durable, sweatproof and gives a good grip. Also it is very common for household repairs here in Germany.
Thank you
You are welcome! 🙏🏻
