Will putting bio balls in your aqau blocks increase bacteria activity and get more clear water? If yes, is it cost effective (benefits vs. costs)?

When I started my landscaping trade certificate all the educators rapped you over the knuckles if you called it 'dirt'. They drove it into our heads, that it isn't dirt, it is 'soil'.
It worked, because now I cringe when I hear soil referred to as dirt.
They have beautiful soil! They need a huge garden
