- Still not really making anything for a while, at least not hardware that will make it into a video. Having fun on Twitch though and I am still getting to do some programming in a round about kinda way.
Here is my Twitch channel / davidjwatts be aware it is a mix of programming and messing about with games. Follow at your own risk.
Happy to see an update!
Have you considered doing videos following the progress of the house renovation? A bit like Julian's Shednanigans! :)
I could do, it is slow going though. I will certainly show off the electrics getting changed.
Thanks for the update David! Take all the time you need, we'll be ready when you are!
The brick lay is the same as my 1881 Cornish brick terraced house.
If it's any consolation, I've been working through my house, modernising and improving my house for 20 years!!
I'd also be utilising the cellar as my workshop, as mine is outside, which is a little cold in the winter.
That back part of the garden looks really lovely, idyllic getaway in your own backyard. Don't let the fox bite you!
Don't get caught out with the shrubbery divider in the back garden, it's kinda nice an tidy now, but it will get veracious in spring. Options are, ladders and a hedge trimmer, or an "all in one" device that have extension poles. Personally I'd chop them down to the ground, and put a fence in their place if you like the divide.
Good to see an update! As an Australian, I find the entire concept of that "garden" really strange. Why is it so common in the UK to have a 10 foot wide house with a 100m long grassed greyhound drag racing track behind it?
We have plenty of small attached (terraces), and semi-detached (duplex), and townhouse-style homes here, but they don't include an almost completely useless narrow slot of lawn like that. I find it strange how in the UK it's so common to have incredibly narrow frontages and massively long blocks... it's be so much nicer with about half the total area, but with much more livable proportions. What's the total m² of that plot of land?
Lack of exercise when working from home I think is affecting a lot of us! Those Wylex fuse boxes are from around the 1970's. The incoming cable is PILC, nothing too terrible about it but it looks in a bit of a state because of the cloth covering. The cable underneath will be pretty much pristine, just don't try to move it...
Good to see you pal! I've also put some chub on - just bought a new bike to help shift it! Keep smiling and we'll hopefully see you soon.
Good to see you filming again buddy! We've all missed you. And boy oh boy that's a good do-er-upper!!!!! Love those vintage plugs and switches!
Good to see you back. Looks like a great house with tons of scope to add value. Lots of interesting projects ahead, just pace yourself and give yourself time and get help from anyone who's willing! Best of luck.
Great to see you, David! I've found I'm too fundamentally disorganised to catch Twitch streams, but good to hear you're enjoying it.
Old houses have lots of character. Keep those tiles.
My tiny house in London is from 1890.
Good to see you, I suggest getting those dodgy electrics done before anything else.
Hi mate! I have taken a fairly selfish approach and had the boiler changed first as winter is upon us and I am changing the bathroom because squatting in the bath is pretty uncomfortable. Electrics will be the first thing after that.
@@DavidWatts - of course, uk winter, I don’t blame you for getting the heating sorted first !
70s orange in the bathroom, pretty fresh back then - as hip as a Bonanza bike for us kids
Looks great, good luck. Get the new fuse box sorted with RCD’s before you get a shock!
Awesome house, that garden is bloody great. Good BBQ area too! Keep well, look after yourself.
Nice to see you. I have a house of similar age. First thing I had done was a new electrical box, and replaced a lot of dodgy wiring. Good luck with it.
I'll need that luck, so I'll take it ;)
Thanks for another entertaining video. It's good to see you out and about again and sorry to hear that you got "screwed over" during COVID. Looking forward to another "flashing LED thingy" project (they're always fun) once you fix your electrics and you get your health/weight back on track. Regards from Australia.
I'm in the same boat over the pandemic picked up some bad habits and added some weight. You're not alone!
happy new year !
Asked myself which channel I had thought to miss a video.
Great to hear from you David! That garden is awesome. With my living situation (kids) I was eyeing up that cellar as the place I'd probably try take If it could be fixed up!
Best of luck with the renovations. We were pretty lucky that house we bought was mainly turn key, but we are in the middle of decorating it now and the amount of time it takes is crazy!
What a lovely video. You should do more vlogs!
You are not alone, David. My mental health tanked during the last couple of years.
My reaction to that house is a mix of both "oh my god" and "oh my god"
Nice to see you post again. That house will look great in no time.
You're still one of the most beautiful (male) electronics youtubers out there :*
Nice to see you again. Be safe. Looking forward to your next project.
Lots of exciting potential in the house x especially the cellar and garden :-)
Good to hear from you David.
Super long garden! Perfect for some amateur radio antennas :D
Ha! That is a good shout. I was going to put up PV panels in the new year.
Nice to see your still sharing your space with a PET.
Good to see you back and hope everything goes well
Looking handsome dude.
Glad to hear you're getting back to it!
So pleased to see you again! My word you've got some work to do on your house ... hope you're enjoying it.
Good luck with the all the work
Awesome update :)
Looks like a big job all over, but I'd suggest given the age of the installation you get the electrics sorted as soon as you can. Stay positive and look after yourself.
I am not looking forward to the electrics, it might be easier if I move out for a while. Had to get the boiler done first now the temperature is dipping.
@@DavidWatts You're looking at probably up to week for installation on electrics. Maybe you could ask for reliable local trades persons in your area for both gas and electric. Best doing it before you go to the trouble of plastering and painting.
Cool to see you're ok ! Nice update.
Thanks David. It looks like you have a lot work ahead of you. I hope it all goes smoothly. Please give us an update or two as you progress, I'd love to see how it is getting along. Congratulations on the house. Take care.
Will do, might be pretty sparse, getting professionals in is taking ages.
@@DavidWatts No worries. I understand. I know people that have been on waiting lists for months and still no work getting done until the new year.
Nice to see more videos! Hope you're feeling better and getting a chance to chill between all of the work.
murder basement be a great location for a horror
Glad to see you back David. Pandemic has been a tough road so you are not alone. Don't worry about the weight- It'll pass. Not advocating it as it's a bit tough but I dropped all alcohol >18 months ago and dropped 20 pounds in a blink with no change in exercise and actually eating more :) Would actually recommend it to anyone just not exactly normal. Glad you are well and house looks good.
Reducing the alcohol will help immensely. I just needed to reach a tipping point. I was content with having a fat year, but that year is almost over so it is time to refocus. Less calories in and more out, one month being strict to see some results then I'll make it less strict.
@@DavidWatts Best of luck. You'll do fine I'm sure
Aaaaw, I wanted to see the air raid shelter... maybe next house vlog? ;)
Great to have you back. And I'm sure you'll devote the TLC the house deserves.
at least the bath is not avocado :-) great oppurtunity to make it just as you like it and a great basement
There is nothing wrong with an avocado bath, it would be fine! *angry mob appears at the door*
@@DavidWatts HA HA!! :-)
Great to see you again. Hope it goes well but I imagine there will be times when you think "what have I done!?" Everyone does.
A good tip I was given is that when you get to the stage of decorating the rooms do your bedroom first and your living room last. That's so you have somewhere calm to sleep and because if your living room is comfy it will slow you down on getting the other rooms done. Take good care.
I had exactly the same tip, the bedroom is nice and free of clutter. It will be the last room that gets ripped apart, I didn't show it because I haven't made my bed :)
Nice to se you David hope you manage to get things sorted i need to lose some waight to lol to busy playing about with my BBC Micro at the moment i remember your Commodore PET Video a while back i found it very interesting Nice to se your well and staying safe
:) The side of the PET is just visible on the left video when I had to go to the desk when the camera battery ran out.
@@DavidWatts Yes i can se it now you`ve pointed it out haha
Great to see you back!!
Yay David is back ✨
Good luck with all of your plans.
Theres some unused land behind the back fence, if you move your fence back and take some of that land and no one claims it in I think 4 years ? then it legally becomes yours.
I believe it actually is my land, but there is a freight railway line behind there so it is a nice buffer.
Long time no see, David. How would you like your house to be? Old as always? Ultra modern? Or somewhere in the middle? I like what I done to my house, steampunk style. Loads of old cameras around my house. Let me know.
Nice to see you're alive. :)
Pandemic and lockdowns really have a tendency to creep inside some dark nooks and crannies. Doing something (how little it might seen) that makes you smile everyday really helped me, I hope it might do the same for you. 😊
A cellar and an old air raid shelter! Loads of room for prisoners should the need arise. ;-)
Can I hazard a guess that somewhere near the top of the estate agents blurb was a paragraph that included the phrase "potential for improvement"?
I look forward to seeing it improve over time...
Ha ha, something like that. It was on the market for 6 months so I got it for a steal really. The surveyor told me everything I already knew I would need to change so I am happy. Lots of work though.
@@DavidWatts Some people have made a living from making videos about their home improvements...perhaps you could too? Either way, good luck for the future!
We have exactly the same tiles in our hallway lol some builder offered us 10 grand for them ??? Sod off they're staying 😀 maybe post doing the house up. You are awesome at content and delivery, it might not be arduino or pi but I'm sure you'd add bits in anyhow. Just don't touch those electrics they look dodgy as!!!!
Great to see you !
Don't smash or let the drain be smashed for removal as its cast iron and worth a lot!
If you have any fireplaces left in the rooms, again don't damage or throw them out as small bedroom fireplaces are almost £300 each to sell!
eww manual mixer showers!
Have you had the asbestos people in because there is guarantied to still be asbestos in there!
Photo and carefully remove those corridors tiles as they are worth a fortune to collectors.
You may want to consider excavating the shelter as they can be interesting.
WOW, that garden is more that twice the length of mine!
Don't let the old electrical switches and sockets be damaged as again there are collectors for them.
As to that brown fuse board, has an electrician looked in it yet? If not, be prepared for an asbestos bill but hope is just mica. there may be a collector for the fuse board but they are horrible things.
Planning on keeping as much of the original features as possible. So even the fireplace in the bathroom will stay. There are 2 other fireplaces in the bedrooms, or I hope there are, they have been boarded up. The surveyor was confident that there were no large areas of asbestos but I will let the professionals determine that in the bathroom and with the electrics. The tiles in the hallway will stay as they are for until the new year, if a good clean doesn't make them look good enough then I will get a company in to restore them, I'd like to keep them.
I didn't realise the electrical sockets and switches + fuse board would be valuable. I'll make sure the electrician puts them aside. I have only had one quote so far, 3 electricians have been round though but some have not replied. Looking forward to a full rewire, might even got for some CAT6 runs.
@@DavidWatts Don't forget to get the sockets with built in USB, they are a godsend !
Its nice to see you back.
Been where you are now my house is older than yours and hadn't been touched since the 70s the owner did his own electrics so no earth and rubber twin core wiring, was wondering if you was ok
Yeah, there are some pretty unique fixings around the house. I might do something more detailed when I find the charger for the camera battery.
That's awful lot of work :)
There are points where I thought it might be easier to just rebuild the house.
