Alan Kalter took over for Bill Wendell who was let go for off all things being caught multiple times stealing cases of water intended for the Late Show staff. True story.
Alan Kalter has been around longer than that. He was announcer on "The Money Maze" in the 1974-75 season (George Clooney's dad Nick was host of that show) and the first season (1976-77) of "The $128,000 Question" with host Mike Darow.

Yep, but that one and the $100,000 Pyramid were the two syndicated Pyramids that Dick Clark hosted besides the daytime Pyramids; Bill Cullen hosted the 70s syndicated $25,000 Pyramid, which aired every Monday night at 7:30pm (right after the 70s To Tell the Truth) on WAVE 3 in Louisville and on WTVQ in Lexington, John Davidson hosted the 1991 $100,000 Pyramid, which aired on WBNA-TV in Louisville and Donny Osmond hosted the 2000s Pyramid, which aired on WAVE 3 (the same station that carried the Cullen $25,000 Pyramid) and WLEX-TV in Lexington.
My favorite version of TTTT is the syndicated 1969-1978 version (especially the first two seasons with that groovy set) but this is my second favorite. This version just varied a lot depending on the panel. This week's panel should prove pretty good though.
There was a movie in the late 70's called "Hot Stuff", which was exactly about this sting operation. It starred Jerry Reed and Dom Deluise. I don't know if it was based on this true story or not. But it sounds exactly like the plot of the movie. (Though the movie was based in Florida.)
This is the 1980-81 season. " The $20,000 Pyramid" had just wrapped up in June of that year. Also, while "American Bandstand" was at that point 28 years old, Dick Clark did not begin hosting it until taking over from a fired Bob Horn in 1956, about a year before it went national. Before it went national, it was just simply called "Bandstand" and originated at the old WFIL-TV 6 (now WPVI 6ABC) at 46th & Market Sts in Philly until 1964. This place is now The Enterprise Center.
He also was the narrator on the 3rd syndicated season of Twilight Zone 80s. In fact when they added the CBS run shows from that series to the package of reruns, they dubbed him over Charles Aidman's narration of those episodes. Which has made me ask now for a while, the DVDs of that Twilight Zone series. Are the copies of the CBS aired episodes the Aidman's announcements or the Ward dubs
The announcer is Alan Kalter, now the announcer for Late Show with David Letterman. Yep, he's been around THAT long!
I love that shocked expression on Dick Clark's face during that One On One segment!
It is nice to hear Alan Kalter announce this game show.

My very favorite TTTT era ever! Boogie down! :D
A long time favorite of mine.

I sure wish this version of the classic game show would air on Buzzr

Thanks for this video, excuseyou77. RIP Dick Clark 1929-2012.
I like the 1970s version better with Garry Moore.
true enough, but the “original” Bud Collier version was EVEN better.
I never knew this TTTT version existed.
I was in Studio 6A in 1995 to see Conan O'Brien's show. The studio is very small (about 40 feet wide).
When this episode aired, Dick Clark hosted The $50,000 Pyramid
Dan Barker: Dick Clark hosted $50,000 Pyramid in early to mid-1981 for syndication.

70s version i remember the most but this wasn/t bad
Bill Todman died in 1979 so it was soon after this that these shows became a "Mark Goodson Production".
That wouldn't happen until 1982.
+Dan Taylor Not all that long afterward.
Soupy made a similar expression for the first segment!

Depends on what point in 1980 this was. There's a possibility he could have been wrapping up his run on "The $20,000 Pyramid" on ABC.
Its poverty not the gambling option that is causing the problem.
whatever happened to Pat Collins?
No Kitty Carlisle?
Dick Clark was also doing $50,000 Pyramid in syndie by this point, right?
That's what I read in this comment section
She was married to the late composer Joe Raposo of Sesame Street.
i thought this was a very good version of the series even if it lasted only one season
Peggy Cass blends in with the set. Did she plan that?
What ever happened to Robin Ward?
He's had a decent TV career in his native Canada, appearing as a weather presenter and entertainment reporter.
@@fatherdmj But first and foremost, he will always be Garth from The Starlost (from the early 70s). ;)

He's now a writer
Unfortunately, Kitty and Peggy were never on the same panel on this version.
Im gonna call it 3 minutes in, it's so not number 3
will you upload pyramid next
Wasn't this Dick Clark's final Goodson-Todman game show appearance?
