Do you know if there is any way to make this engine more reliable and/or make sure it's drinking less oil than a mazda RX8?
Do you know what is causing this much oil burning? Piston rings?
I don't have much knowledge on the engine other than it's horrendously unreliable under normal servicing. I presume it's like most modern engines now that needed their oil changing every 6,000 miles and if you don't they tear themselves apart.

Once I’ve removed the clutch and flywheel I will put it on a proper stand.

I have one of these shit box engines in my mini... Characteristically great...in reality... chocolate 😅
My experience wasn't great. It literally self destructed while ticking over hence I'm just taking it apart as that's all it's good for.
