Nice video... good comms... Don't talk to much, 'tactical brevity' is the key. I am of the belief that once you establish comms, you can just use 'tower' without the "Lindberg' or 'North Island' pre coursor 'Wilco' is your friend too!!!!! Thanks for posting.
When going around the northern tip of North Island at 500ft heading to the bridge, you entered class B again since it starts at SFC. Did North Island give you another B clearance?
ATC does not require a Bravo clearance to fly up the channel, though you do need to be talking to N Island tower. You do, of course, need one for the Delta transition over Lindbergh. I'm not sure of the justification for how they handle this very common route. That would be a good question for www.reddit.com/r/ATC/.
This is awesome!! I moved away from SD a few months ago and I'm about 3/4 done with my PPL now, I've always wanted to do this flight because I used to see people flying it every day down in OB, but looking at the sectional I didn't see any flyways or vfr corridors, so I was disheartened til I found this! Thanks for making it!! A couple questions: 1. Can I ask you how long it took you to fly so I know how long I need to rent for? 2. Also is there an FBO at Montgomery you recommend for a rental? 3. Is it possible to either fly it in reverse, or 180 at the bridge and fly back up the coast to Montgomery instead of over the airport and Clairemont?
I logged 0.8 hours for this flight. I think the actual flight takes about half an hour. I'm a member of Plus One Flyers and rent from them. I'm really not sure what the best way to go for rentals is from out of town. You can definitely fly this in reverse. Several of the pilots in my club prefer doing it this way. You can ask MYF ground for the delta transition and they will coordinate it for you with Lindbergh. On take off climb to 1,500 and you will get handed off to Lindbergh tower. When Lindbergh asks you intentions south of the field tell them you'd like the channel transition. They'll hand you off to N Island Tower. Or, like you said, you can just do the channel transition both ways. Just let N Island know that's what you want when asked intentions at the bridge.
I bought these cables. This allows me to split the signal going to/from my headset to a Sony ICD-PX440. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000068O56/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000068O36/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I used to use this one which goes directly into a GoPro, which makes syncing audio simpler but I found running the cable to the camera got in the way more than a mini audio recorder that can be tucked away. www.amazon.com/Nflightcam-Aircraft-Audio-Power-Cable/dp/B00OP8RYY8
I would suggest changing the title to prevent confusion. I hear many local pilots and even seasoned pros and instructors, asking for "the Bay Tour", and that's jut the beginning of how the comm's go bad. There is no "Bay Tour", only transitions.
Hi Duffy. Thanks for the input! I did consider that, though I thought putting “Bay Tour” in the title would make it easier to find for those who need it. Hopefully they’ll actually watch the video (or maybe read the description) to learn what to ask for.
Thank you so much! This was awesome. I just joined Plus One as well and will be doing this flight soon. Great video! Happy flying.
Just got my private pilot and looking to do this. Great video.

Good tips!
Great stuff
Excellent, thank you.

I did it today and North Island explicitly told me „cleared into the bravo“. Thanks for the excellent video, it was stunning!

I can see where the tail numbers are confusing. //ji
How do you capture audio in from the airplane?

PLEASE PLEASE crank the music down. If I wanted to listen to music, I would not want ATC comms in the background. Otherwise, good video and thanks.
