I have *literally* just had this conversation with the organisers of an all day conference, where I was moderating/hosting a couple of the sessions.
I *implored* them to get *all* the moderators/hosts to introduce their speakers, and stop the *speakers* from killing the momentum of their talk by starting with a slide explaining who they are.
With the right introduction, your speaker comes on to an audience that's excited and ready to listen, and can go straight to grabbing the audience's attention and delivering their content.
